    Default Body after baby?

hey all...the time is growing closer...3 1/2 more months before little one arrives! Im so excited about it and extremely anxious to shed this baby weight and then some. I have not been extremely cautious about my diet...I give in to occasional cravings and dont work out as much as I should but I am active...dog walks and all. Anyway, I wanted to know what you guys have done to lose the weight and get back into shape after baby. I plan to go into a strict high protein diet and watch my my intake immed. after the baby is born. i am on a high protein diet now but its not as strict as it should be as i do not deprive myself of cravings...though I do not go crazy on them . I am about 25lbs in deep now and prob. will gain another 20 by the time i give birth. Do you think slow walking to get some cardio is good for me right after the baby is born? i just going on this depeding how my body feels...i am not going to push it if Im not up to it....Thanks ladies.

breastfeed. you will burn a lot of calories just by breastfeeding! plus it's perfect for baby.

i was back into my size 3's with a tight stomach by the time my first was 3 months old. and I didn't exercise. I'm sure if I had exercised, I would've lost it a lot faster. Oh and I gained like 46lbs!

And, um, make sure you're eating a clean diet. Breastfeeding won't matter jack if you're eating for shit.

I was back into my regular clothes 10-12 days after having my daughter. But, I exercised my whole pregnancy and made sure that I ate well. The same with this pregnancy. Take care of yourself.

I was also back to normal after 3 months because of breastfeeding. The tummy isn't quite as tight, but it's getting there. I had a pretty serious diastasis so ab work was kind of a no-no for a while. That is something you should watch out for. If you are laying down and go into a tiny crunch (not recommended to do except to check) and your belly gets almost a little pointy in the middle - not pointy but not round - you'll no if you have it, it's wierd. Anyway, I wasn't careful with my body and so my abs had a seperation right down the middle. So there was still that big space there after giving birth. Make sure you roll to the side before you get up from laying down, and all that stuff.

What everyone said is right - eat very healthy and breastfeed if you possibly can. And don't get down on yourself if you don't see the changes fast enough. Your body positively will recover in it's time, and just because you aren't pregnant you are postpartum, which is all about you nurturing yourself and recovering and getting back in your body. You can start as slow as you want. Walks are great. You can also get some pilates and yoga tapes to do at home - it'll help your back and you can lay your baby down with you or find ways to hold him or her while you work out.

Agreed. It took 9 months for your body to get to full term...it'll take at LEAST that long to go back to completely normal. It helps when you eat healthy, exercise and breastfeed...but know that it takes time.

Venus, what kind of exercises can a pregnant woman do? Just curious. I like to know this things incase if I ever decide to have a mini me. Or someone I know.

I've seen on tv some type of yoga exercise woman while holding their baby, looks fun and funny.

    Pre-natal yoga is excellent.

If you were active before pregnancy, you can keep it up until you cannot physically do it anymore (listen to your body).

I biked 16 miles a day until I was 7 months preggers with Makayla (along with weight training and cardio). I stopped at 7 1/2 months when walking was enough exercise (along with Pre-natal yoga).

If you weren't active and want to become active, definitely check with your doctor. But, walking for 30-45 minutes a day is great exercise.

After the baby is born, put him or her in a sling or a front carier and go for walks, or even jsut wear it around the house. I had my son in a sling almost from the day he was born, for several hours a day. Between that and breast feeding, I lost more than my pregnancy weight in just a few months.

HEre is an article about other benefits of using a sling. http://www.askdrsears.com/html/5/T051100.asp

I used the one this pediatrician endorses, but if you are short you may not find it comfortable. If you google "baby sling" or "attachment parenting" you are sure to find a lot of alternatives.

Awesome. I didn't think it was possible. That's good to know.

I second the sling. I like the Over the Shoulder Baby Holder for small babies, and the Maya Wrap for bigger ones. (My three year old still rides in the maya from time to time.) There is a cool front one also called the Mei Tie. (sp?). I know a couple of smaller WAHM who make them at good prices if you are interested. I love all the Dr. Sears books.

I also second (third, fifth?) breastfeeding. I am a Breastfeeding counselor by day if you are interested I could point you to some good sites etc.

Other than that it's just about eating healthy and burning calories- just like any other time.
