    Default Hooters?

No, I'm not working at a Hooters. My sister's restaurant has been acquired and she is being interviewed tomorrow (or re-interviewed); I'm wondering if anyone knows what salary expectation is. Like if they ask her how much she expects to make, what can she say that will not be drastically underbidding, or ridiculously overbidding? Someone here must have worked in a hooters. She is interviewing for Assistant Manager, btw.

I hope they serve deep fried poutaine. It can be called "Poontang Poutaine". LOL

There's many old threads about Hooters on here....the quality of the franchise has taken a nosedive in the past several years.

The Hooters girls rely heavily on tips and in some parts of the country receive less than minimum wage for the privilege of putting on the famous uniform. Since she's going to be part of management, I'm sure their payscale is at least on par with a place like Applebee's, Chili's, etc.

Thanks Max and Red - I did a brief perusal, and there is a lot on waitressing and how the money isn't as good as dancing, but keep in mind that my sister isn't going from a dancer to a waitress - she's going from bar/restaurant assistant manager to bar/restaurant assistant manager. So the money shock is not likely to be there, and I can promise that she will not encourage the girls to screw the customers for tips. Like, I can PROMISE. I swear. There is a whole stupid drama story about WHY we don't already know this, and it would sound retarded if I shared, because, well, it's pretty retarded. It just never sounds nice if you are way off in terms of salary when they ask, you know?

Well, I didn't want to go on and on about Hooters, but keep in mind aside from whether your sister can get the salary she wants from them, she will have to put up with a "sexist" work environment. The Hooters gimmick is eye candy along with the fried food & beer. Versus the more family-oriented approach of TGI Friday's or Chili's.

I am mildly depressed tacky American culture is hopping the northern border & infecting the fair land of Canada.

Hey. I think Hooters is incredibly tacky, and I don't get why anyone agrees to waitress there. But, I don't know if it is exceptionally more sexist than where I work (he he). I think she would make more money doing the proverbial fine dining - either the upscale spots or the trendy spots where a cheque for two people adds up to $200, but she doesn't drive, so can't commute and blah, blah, blah, so she can't really make into the city to work, so she's stuck with the local watering holes, of which her's is now a hooters.

Yeah, we have a Hooter's in Ottawa, but I don't think there are any TGIFridays or Chilis or IHOPs in Canada (that I've ever seen). We have our own Canadian versions of tacky chains like Kelseys, Montanas, etc. Maybe those are american too though. But I bet Celine Dion's chain of Nickels is not? i hope?

...i can't answer your question Jenny, but all I remember about the Hooters here is one time friend and I went there (when there was an office party at our destination next door) out of curiosity and hunger. We stood waiting for anyone to bring us to a table, or a menu, but no one looked at us, or came to seat us for 15min. It was totally weird. So we left.
