    Default I twisted the shit out of my ankle tonight...

    Earlier in the evening I was dancing and kind of slipped on my left heel. It didn't hurt, but it made me stumble. I guess from that my ankle was weakened because on my last set I twisted it completely and actually fell to the floor (gently, and as sexily as possible, loller). It didn't hurt much at first, I did three private dances, and then when I put my shoes back on to walk back to the dressing room it started really hurting.

    Now it's hurting up my leg and down through my foot. Damn those eight inchers! I knew I should have stuck with training wheels!!!! Seriously though, I am about to take some codeine and go to bed, but I hope this doesn't affect the rest of my week. I can't afford to take off.

    Boo hoo, crybaby thread, I know. I just had to vent and no other messageboard will do when it comes to stripper injuries. Smooches to y'all.

    I pulled a calf muscle recently (from a crappy job too, not something fun like dancing.) I kept wrapping an Ace bandage around my calf to keep it warm & massaged it even though it hurt. Luckily it went away quickly.

    PS I have also discovered the miracle of Tiger Balm.

    My ankles have been SO weak since dancing. I trip onto the side of my foot in my flats in the mall! I stopped taking pills for it, now I nearly scald myself with got water on them and try to exercise my foot.

    ICE ICE ICE! I cannot stress it enough. The inflammation that results from this kind of twist needs to be taken down. It's very good that you're using an Ace bandage, but take some time to ice it (10-15 minutes on, 15 minutes off) and elevate it. R.I.C.E. Rest, Ice, Compression (bandage) and Elevation (lay on the couch and watch your favorite stuff, making sure your ankle is above your heart).

    Taking ibuprofen (as opposed to painkillers that don't have anti-inflammatory properties) is also key. Codeine definitely helps the pain, but it only addresses the superficial symptom - anti-inflammatories actually help to treat the problem itself.

    I know you don't want to miss work, but a day or two of treating (think SERIOUS babying and TLC) your ankle will go a long, long way, as opposed to trying to work before you're ready and thus limping around & constantly re-injuring it for weeks on end. This can create a chronic weakness that you'll be trying to cope with forever. Take at least a day or two off now, and it will pay off in the long run.

    When it starts to feel better, what cured my bad ankle was soooo simple (wish I knew years earlier)..standing on one leg!!!! After a while I could do it on an incline or decline with my eyes closed. Anyway..really builds up stability.
