    Default weird ? about stds

this is a little personal and embarrassing but i need advice!! i got chlamydia last fall, and it was embarrassing and all but everybody said it happens, i got something that i just have to take a pill to deal with and its all gone. then, in the spring, i started having really bad pains and turns out i had it AGAIN. i didnt even think thats what it was because the first time i had no symptoms, i just found out at my annual gyno appt. now, im nervous, because when i went back for my annual this year my doctor called me and said it was "nothing serious" but she wanted me to come back in 6 months because my pap smear was abnormal. she didnt give me any more details than that. just recently i started having the same pain i had before and im scared to go back to the doctor. ive used condoms and been so careful since it happened to me TWICE!! and i do NOT sleep around at ALL. i dont think that there is, but is there any way that it could just pop back up or anything? i know that sounds dumb, but im looking for anything here!!

I am not an expert and I have never had chlamydia, but I do know that sometimes certain strains of bacterias are hard to kill. Are sure that you were reinfected with chlamydia, or perhaps could it have been from your orginal infection? Try not to worry to much about the abnormal pap. A lot of women will have a abnormal pap at some point in there life. Just make sure that you do go back to the Dr. in 6 months. If you are having pain you should go to the Dr. Especially if you are having pelvic pain. You could have PID. You do not sound dumb at all. Doctors these days do not always give us the information that we need. I had a abnormal pap a few years ago and thought it was the end of the world and everything is ok now as far as I know. The main reason that I freaked out about the abnormal pap was due to the lack of information that my Dr. provided me with. Again, if you are having pains go back to the Dr. Maybe you could even switch Doctors if you are not 100% comfortable with the one that you have. I hope this helps.

thats what i was thinking, maybe it just didnt go away even though i retested after the antibiotics. i read that you should get tested 3 months later to make sure it didnt come back, and im scared that my body is just resisting the medication. blahhh. thanks though for the advice!!

Go the the DR. ASAP! Have them do an internal sonagram. Go to a specialist. Female docs tended to make me feel better. My insides are all fucked up, and the docs say it might have been from an infection that was resistant to antibiotics. Oddly enough, I never tested positive for the clap or anything, but something messed up my fallopian tubes a few years back. Go get treated, don't let it happen to you. Its painful and expensive, and can leave you unable to have kids like me.

Yes, get back to the doctor or go find another one with a different opinion. I dont know much about chlamydia but it may not have been treated completely the first 2 times. Or this could be something entirely different. Its important to be aware of your sexual health not only for the future children you may want but for the rest of your body as well.

I don't know if it's actually true or possible, but I heard a girl at our club got chlamydia from the pole, as we do full nude, and it's our responsibility to wipe down the pole before we use it, and apparently she didn't...

I had BV once years ago, and an abnormal pap. The doc said the BV was most likely caused from douching too much (so of course I quit douching), and she also said the BV most likely caused my abnormal pap result. Apparently she was right because I never had another abnormal pap, and that was like 8 years ago.

I'm thinking your pap result is probably caused by the chlamydia, which is probably why the doc only wants you to come back in 6 months and not sooner. Don't fret hun. And yeah, sometimes bacteria can be hard to kill, so it's possible (especially if you didn't take all your meds the first time) that the original infection never went away.

chlamydia is about the only STD that is passed a significant minority of the time (last i checked like 30-40% of the time) via nonsexual contact, due to being bacterial. however, it is usually treatable with a single-dose antibiotic, but maybe you have an unusual strain or something.

six months is what a lot of doctors say for retesting on stds (especially the bacterial ones) because it can take 3-4 months for the test results to stop showing false positives.

Did your partner also get treated for chlamydia? If he didn't get pills and get cured as well, then he would have just given the disease back to you.

It's probably a good idea to get a check-up after a dose of pills, just to make sure the disease is indeed gone. I don't think most docs give a crap enough to recommend this, but they really should. I hope everything is okay!

Condoms are great, but they don't protect you when you are giving or receiving oral sex. Most (maybe ALL) STDs can be transmitted orally. Go in for a FULL STD check-up and have your partner(s) do the same. If he (or they) refuse, stop messing with them. You are risking your health!!

It doesn't seem right that the doctor would tell you to wait six months after you've had abnormal pap. Did she say what exactly was abnormal about the results?

Since you're in discomfort you should see a doctor ASAP and perhaps a different one.

no, she just said there was an abnormality in the pap and i should come back in 6 months. a friend of mine said it was because a lot of forms of hpv clear up on their own so they want to take another pap in 6 months to see if things are better. she scared the shit out of me when she left the message, too.. "it's nothing serious, but we do need to talk" and this was on a wednesday night. she only works monday and wednesday!! you dont tell a girl who;s had stds (im still embarrassed to be talking about this online btw ) that you need to talk but it isnt serious!! i think im going to wait til after i get my period next week and then call her to go in.

An abnormal PAP smear means that your cervical cells didn't look "quite right" on the slide, but they didn't look cancerous either. Any kind of infection or inflammation will cause white blood cells to show up a lot on the slide (hence no mad wild sex within 24 hours before the test), and any injury to the cervix will cause the cervical cells to look weird in addition to bringing in white blood cells.

In short, there's half a million different things that could cause the PAP smear to be abnormal, and very few of them cause it to be abnormal in diagnostic ways (only cancer as far as I know). So all the doctor can really do is to tell you what's up, get you retested in a few months, and if it's still weird, then run more tests.

So, the doc isn't giving her as much info as most of us would like, but the doctor is not being negligent.
The "not enough info" is reason enough to try seeing another doctor, still.

They should at least tell you what made the pap abnormal. When I had abnormal paps they always told me why it was that way. Ask them and get a new doctor as well. Seems like something isnt being taken care of here if you are careful and the problem repeats itself.
