Arrow Diet to NOT get pregnant

I have heard of diets and lifestyle choices one can make to "encourage" pregnancy...... I was just thinking... there must be a diet out there of some sort or something I can do besides basic birth control and/or abstinenance (and abstinance isn't really my favourite choice) to make sure I never ever fall pregnant.

Nothing meant by this post. I was just thinking...

.....oh yes... besides NOT drinking the SW water as this forum went thru a spate of pregnancies not too long ago... lol!

.........and yes I could have my tubes tied (as such) however alot of doctors have said to me that they won't refer me for such an operation until I was at least 30 years old or over since I am single, healthy and have no prior children... only those with prior children usually gain access to this operation with ease who are under the age of 30.

Hmmm I've never heard of such a thing, and it would probably be a bad idea. After all, food is medicine. In self treating, how would you know if you ate enough of whatever or too much? There are foods that are bad for a pregnancy, as in they cause complications, deformities, etc, which would result in a miscarraige. But that's so dangerous and of course no one in their right mind would purposely want to use miscarraige as birth control.

Interesting theory, but I just dont see it working.

Well plenty of people cannot conceive because they are so damned unhealthy, but I wouldnt recomend it! (-: Poor diet actually is often the culpret when couples cant concieve.

Basically, if you appreciate your good health (which I think you do) your body is most likely to work properly / well. Unfortunatly for females that means more liklyhood of concieving.

Im interested in traditional methods of contraception, but it seems to be fairly difficult to find out about in great detail. If you know any Indigenous people around the Burleigh / Tweed area you could ask them about the vine which grows locally and has contraceptive properties. It was brewed to make a tea I think. Thats all I know though!

Got nothing in the way of diet, but I heard somewhere that sperm can't survive long in high temps, which is why guys' testes are external. That made me wonder, like, if a guy took a hot bath before sex would it temporarily lower his sperm count? hmmm...

And, there was somethin a while back about Mountain Dew makin guys sterile too, figure that had to be an urban legend tho lol

^Yeah I've heard that a warm laptop computer on a guys lap can lower sperm count, as well as tight pants or undies. Still not reliable though.

The only thing I can think of is herbal teas like the native american women used. Pennyroyal, sage, cedar. They were used as ammemogogues (sp) and to prevent pregnancy. I have heard from one native woman here that all her community used the pennyroyal one with very good results. Traditionally/historically in tribes using these, it was normal to have only 2 kids, 6 years apart so I'm guessing the teas worked lol. If you really want something diet wise it is definitely worth researching/looking into.

Oh and haha, no one flame me for this. I'm just going by what I've heard and don't condone or have personal experience with any of this

There are the herbal remedies and douches from olden days, but I doubt they would be as realiable as what we have available now. Even so, I'm really interested in how the roots and teas worked. I can't imagine how hard it must have been for women in those days, and the effort they had to go through to make such discoveries.

Now we are getting onto something.......... I do like being healthy and do everything to stay healthy (hence my reason for my take up on consuming Coll. Silver recently) however I was just plain curious if there were anything "out there" that people can and/or do alongside what is available for birth control.

I've heard of certain herbs having birth control properties... hmm... a topic for me to research! I love researching so I am bound to come up with something eventually......meanwhile anything anyone can contribute in re: other things to do to avoid pregnancy would be tops!

As I said in the OP, I'm not willing to entertain the thought of abstienance ... am on Depo (I'm lucky in that it hasn't really affected me as it has other people)... and can't get my "tubes tied" (tubal litigation or whatever it is called) until I'm over 30 years of age.

Changing your diet sounds about as reliable as Rhythm, Hope, and Prayer methods of not getting pregnant.
There are plenty of other options that your doctor should be able to discuss with you.

I have no advice on this, but wanted to share... Me and my hubby were together for 6 yrs before we got married. There were plenty of incidences, no condom, pulling out, etc., that I shoul have def got preg at least one of those times but never did. We decided to go with the flow our wedding night and we got preggo. How do two cats act totally immature and irresponsible for 6 yrs and never get preg, but the one time we're not dead set against it, it happened? It was like mind over matter or something. Spooky

Overheated testicles used to be the no 1 cause of male sterility. It possibly still is unless enviromental / chemical polution has taken over.
The biggest culprit was tight fitting underpants and jeans. To reverse the situation Drs used to "prescribe" wearing boxer shorts and loose fitting pants.
Incidently almost all men will have take their showers and baths at a lower temperature than women. About 2 degrees lower on average. heard it on JJJs science show (Aus radio station)

Sure...it would lower his sperm count...but you are forgetting one important thing: It only takes ONE.

You can find a doctor that will tie yoru tubes if you are absolutly certain that you will never want children. I am friends with a girl who had her tubes tied at 21 years old. I asked her how the hell she got a doctor to do that so young and she said she flat out told the doctor that she never ever wanted children and if she happened to get pregnant, she would have an abortion, but that she wanted to prevent that from happening. The doctor tied her tubes. She said she has never regretted her decision.

I think if you are certian that is what you want, and you check around and talk to many doctors you will find one who will perform the surgery on you, you just may have to sign an extra waiver stating that should you change your mind years down the road, you cannot sue him for doing it.

ALso, there is a new form of birth control out that I just recently heard about that works for 5 years, like the old Norplant( match sized sticks of hormones insterted into your upper arm that works for 5 years) Norplant was discontinued a few years ago, btu supposedly there is a newer form of it out, although I cant remember the name of it.

Venus is right. Risk is risk. Diet or no, laptop or no, degrees or no, no contraception means you are risking (note I am saying risking) a pregnancy. It isn't that you will get prgnant, but the risk goes way up.

Mess with nature, Gold Coast. Remember, we are mammals. Our bodies actually want to reproduce. Eek. When in doubt, be safe.

Time might bear out that you CANNOT have children. "Be careful what you wish for...."
Otherwise, avoid sweet potatoes/yams. I have heard they increase fertility.

Man, I am naturally infertile and PCOSy, and all...I don't get a period unless I'm on the pill. I'd trade ovaries with you if I could.

^about the doctor thing. I have tried to get my tubes tied, and they have refused again and again (I tried several different doctors).

i HATE children until they are about 16. The mere thought of pregnancy, or the sight of a pregnant woman, makes me feel nauseous (I don't mean to offend anyone here, it's not like I deliberately set out to get sick at pregnancy, as far back as i can remember that has just been my physical reaction). I can't deal with kids.

I have told about 6 doctors the above, I told them that if I ever get pregnant, I will get an abortion.

And each one told me I was being silly, and that I'd change my mind.

WTF?! How can doctors judge my decision like that? People get sex changes as young or younger than I am (21), and that seems like a more life changing decision than whether or not to have kids. Blegh.

    Sorry, needed to rant.

^ Yeah, I think its wrong for them to not allow a woman a decision to have/not have children.

Of course, it wasn't always this way. I believe that after a few lawsuits, it became standard across the board to deny a woman to get her tubes tied until after the age of 30 or after she had 3+ children (whichever came first). Nice, eh?

    ^ Yep.

"Hi, I had my doctor tie my tubes because I didn't want kids in my 20's...now that I'm 30, I want kids and I was never told it was irreversible!! My life is ruined!!"

Instead of the, "Sucks when you have to take responsibility for your decisions. Get out of my office line", the lawyer responded, "Let's sue the crap out of their malpractice insurance!"

And, thus, a new "standard" was born.

Edited to add: This is not exactly what happened...but you get the gist.

Someone should sue them for age discrimination instead... more lawsuits...

I have two kids and love, love, love being a mom. But I think you should have the right to avoid that path. That's pretty screwed up. As much as I agree with Venus about not giving them anything else to sue over- something needs to be done as we watch our rights slip away.

In all honestly, I crossed that bridge years ago and realised that if I ever do really truely become barren and can never ever have children... I would be happy. Seriously. I always have wanted to be in the position of those women who are barren.

    HOWEVER

usually being barren is also akin to something wrong with you so I much prefer to be healthy than barren granted.

It looks like I just have to keep hunting around for a doc that will allow me to get my tubes tied as I really really really do not want to ever have children and will have an abortion (in a second) if it ever comes to that...
