"You are NOT it! We might get sued."

First schools banned dodgeball, now this.

You know, its just a matter of time before they ban recess entirely and pull up all the playground equipment. Yep, I'd much rather have kids inside getting no exercise and playing with clay instead.

Of course, you can always throw clay. Don't tell the principal though.

Yes, with the childhood obesity epidemic, this was certainly the way to go.

    It's just gonna get worse.

Public schools seem to be like... I don't know - not right.

I'm a public school kid myself - but I don't think I would put my kid in public school.

I especially like the Deep Thought: "It's a time when accidents can happen," of the principal.

I'm reminded of my "joke" idea that everyone should be handcuffed to their seat in airplanes, "to avoid terrorist incidents"... making that joke once, someone actually TOOK ME SERIOUSLY and thought it wasn't such a stupid idea. Gawd.

So what the hell are kids supposed to do during recess then? If recess is such a liability, I guess soon so will gym class...

Uhm news flash. A lot of schools are getting rid of recess due to similar issues. What's odd is that Cartoon Network seems to be the only major group trying to provide knowledge of this information.

Wow, that really sucks. Tag used to be a fun game that everyone could play (guys and girls) and was one of the few games where we could put aside the "cooties" arguements for once. I remember we used to play a lot of soccer during recess though for the most part, but who knows... schools might ban that too at the rate they are going.

Its because we live in a sue happy society if everyone would get a grip on the fact that accidents happen and we will heal I think things would be less restricted . Think of all the ridiculous law suits over the last 10-15 yrs . Elevator doors are a classic lawsuit that I remember from my last job - the door is closing so you stick your hand into the closing door to stop it and because you get hurt you blame the door .

I wonder why the parents don't protest this actually. I have not heard a peep about this issue until now ?

attleboro ofcorse is the town i've been pulled over twice for non-moving violations. 1. non-functioning headlight(that luckily flickered on when the cop walked to the front of my car, no ticket). 2. disrespecting an officer(he threated to give me a ticket for "radio too loud") but when he found out that i was actually 24 and NOT a high school kid, he changed his mind and stopped trying to intimidate me. Attleboro sucks.

I went to a public school. we never played tag at recess, but we played touch football all the time. i remember one time on crazy hat day i actually ran into the back of the quarterbacks head in an effort to sack him, and my nose started bleeding profusely. that ended that game for me that day, but after going to the nurse for some gauze or wahtever, i was ok the rest of the day. didn't miss a minute of class and i probably played football in the yard after school that day too. We used to play soccer with a tennis ball too. people got little bumps and bruises. but nothing serious. it was good exercise and helps us build social skills.

OH, well I guess we're entitled to think misquoting the Bible or any other published work (with quotation marks) is funny. Freedom of...whatever it is Back to topic.

    We gotta protect the kids!

I say we provide children with full body armor, and RFID tags embedded within it, whenever they go outside the house.

Man, we used to play this game at recess called "Smeer the Queer." Basically, a bunch of us 9-10 year olds would throw a playground ball in the air, someone would catch it, and then everyone else would run after that kid and try to tackle him. Once he was tackled, someone would wrestle the ball from him, start running, and we'd try to tackle him. We'd do that until recess was over.

I guess we'd have to have liability insurance and sensitivity training these days with that game.

I was talking about this the other day. Some schools in Florida have banned running on playgrounds... Then you have the rubber chips on playgrounds instead of gravel.... and ultra safe playgrounds.... kids these days are gonna grow up to be such pussies.

The rubber chips thing, I'm ok with that. I am also ok with anything passive that helps keeps kids safe. But banning things like running and playing tag? I know one school in my area that took the monkey bars out because a girl fell off of them and broke her arm. So they took the monkey bars out?

You're right Paige, kids are going to grow up to be fat pussies. No wonder kids are fat, we don't let them do fun things anymore.

It's normal for kids to get scrapes and hurt themselves while playing. What kid hasn't fallen off of his or her bike while learning how to ride? It's part of being a kid. I cut my knee pretty badly playing dodgeball in third grade and I still have a scar from it today. Did my parents sue the school? No! It's good exercise for kids to run around, play tag, play dodgeball, etc. You can get hurt from any activity-you can get hurt by just walking outside and slipping on the ice. Some people are too overly cautious nowadays.
