Default Don't know if I should switch clubs-long

    I need a pep talk.

Last night was awful...the club was a total ghost town. During the past month, I have had so much on my plate with classes and grad school applications that I haven't really been focused on working a lot and saving money---I just go in to break the monotony of studying 24/7 and stressing out about midterms, the GREs, etc, etc. But it can be hard to go to work when the club is consistently dead. Sitting at the bar waiting for people to come in is totally disheartening, and when they finally do show up, it takes a lot of inner strength to turn it around and suddenly be "on" to be the cheerful entertainer they were expecting.

So now I am thinking about switching clubs...but these are my issues:

    1. This is typically the worst time of year in all service industries in South Florida. Last year at this time we had hurricane Wilma, when everything shut down for a week, so I consider this to be a "good" year because we haven't had to shut down. Season starts around Thanksgiving and the club will almost certainly pick up. (If not then I am definitely switching).

    2. My super heavy workload lasts until Thanksgiving. All the academic work I am doing right now is super important to me, its my whole life. I don't go out, I haven't seen my friends in ages, and I am scared to switch because I don't want to compromise my time.

    3. I don't want to hate going to work. I still need to show up and make some money a few times a week, but when there is no one there it is fucking depressing and I leave work feeling like crap. When I am already bummed out and guys give me shit, it just snowballs and I feel like a stinking hot pile of dog poop on the drive home.

    4. I have no schedule at my club and can pretty much go in when I want. Which I love love lovel Although it has been SOOOO hard to motivate lately because I am like glued to my books. Last night I was just so pissed that I wasted my time at work when I could have been studying. (Actually, I was studying in the dressing room and popping my head out every once in awhile to see if any custies were coming in. It was a bad night for almost everyone, so I had plenty of company back there). Between school and work I pulled a hectic 20 hour day and I had little patience left.

Sorry this was so long, but I have no dancer friends to talk to about this (and I never talk about my private life with other dancers at work---just superficialities).

Incidently, this made me really sad last night. I was studying GRE vocab from this book of flashcards, and it attracted a lot of attention from the other girls. I was SHOCKED to hear some of them read aloud. I could not believe their level of education. Money is important, don't get me wrong, but some of these girls are in early/mid 20s and have never had a regular job. They have better hustles than me (AND THEY SHOULD!---this is the only skill they have practiced in their adult lives)...but I just want to shake them and be like, "Wake up, you are going to be like those tired women that you make fun of if you don't do something!"

OK, my rant is done. I turn now to oxidation-reduction reaction equations. Sigh, I wish someone would just hand me money and be like, "Take a goddamn vacation" because I am on the verge of burning out.

A change is as good as a holiday.

It's an old cliche however has been ever so helpful to me throughout my stripper "career". If that change means changing clubs even temporarily (do not burn any bridges) then it will be worth it. You'll have the joy of re-discovering stripping again in a whole new environment. Surround yourself with four different walls for the time being if you can .... esp. if you can't stop working altogether for a few weeks.
