Default Need ideas for a Literature Review

Long story short: I'm required to take an advanced Psychology class in order to complete my Masters. I have to do a literature review, and I am drawing a blank.. I have to submit my topic for review by Wednesday, (written review to be completed by the end of the 8 week semester) and because my brain is fried and I have written about so many subjects throughout the span of my education I want to write about something completely different but I don't know what... so.. I'm requesting input from all of you here.

FYI- I have already written on Sexual Abuse and females, Strippers, and Ethnic topics... so I'm looking for something completely different that will allow me to expand my brain a bit and learn something new..

    Ideas?

What's a literature review for a psychology class? I'm not sure I understand the assignment. Do you have to review a book or an author or something? Does it have to be nonfiction on psychology, or what?

I keep thinking about researching the impact of newspaper comic strips on our identification within gender roles. Comic strips are read by very young children - they're often the first thing we learn to read in the paper and associate with "news" - and they have very defined lessons that are reinforced repeatedly, on what women do, what men do, what teenage females and males do, on our relationships with each other and our families, etc. I think they have a pretty big impact on how we define ourselves and how we choose to act during our formative years.

Lady Gwen suggests writing about James Frey, the guy who wrote "A Million Little Pieces" & it turned out to be lies...& Oprah Winfrey was MAD, MAD, MAD. It's all over the Internet & The Smoking Gun researched his fallacies.

I suggest writing about Willa Cather's rumored lesbian love life. Hey, she's a Midwestern icon. (I was shouted down by Gwen & her mom though, people don't seem to find that riveting. Gwen also worries your professor might be put off by the topic. Some people are homophobes.....)

How about doing a review of the available literature that pertains to the development of women/girls with absentee and/or neglectful/abusive fathers? It was a recent topic here on SW. I'd be curious to see what your review turns up.

I would do story medicine, which would look like:

    Jung
    RD Lang (Politics of Experience)
Clarissa Pinkola Estes (Women Who Run With The Wolves, The Stone Child)
Some stuff about Neuro Linguistic Programming (I can't remember the name of the guy who wrote the really good books about this... it was before it was called NLP tho, and he has the same name as another famous psychologist... just can't remember which one)

Or, branching out a little, you could do multicultural parenting -

    Jean Liedloff, Continuum Concept and
Children in The USSR and America (I forget the author and I hope that's the exact title... it's by an old famous sociologist)

Or if you have a liberal professor, you could do energy psych for which I can give you an old bibliography that might make a good lit review:

Bohm, David. "Soma-Significance." Psychoscience, Vol 1, Spring 1994
Callahan, Roger. "Psychological Reversal." Selected Papers of the International College of Applied Kinesiology.
Callahan, Roger. Five Minute Phobia Cure. Wilmington, Del.: Enterprise, 1985.
Callahan, Roger. The Rapid Treatment of Panic, Agoraphobia, and Anxiety. Indian Wells, Ca, 1990.
Callahan, Roger. Thought Field Therapy and Trauma: Treatment and Theory. Indian wells, Ca, 1996.
Diamond, John. Behavioral Kinesiology and the Autonomic Nervous System. Valley Cottage: Archaeus Press, 1978.
Gallo, Fred. Therapy by Enerby. Anchor Point, June, 1996.
Gallo, Fred. "Reflections on active ingredients in efficient treatments of PTSD, Part 1 (and 2)." Electronic Journal of Traumatology, Vol 1 (3), 1996.
Nicosia, Gregory. "TFT: A Quantum Leap in Psychotherapy" Treatment Today, Winter 1997.
Hawkins, David. Power vs Force. Arizona, Veritas, 1995.

Heh. I feel like a walking bibliography now.
