    Default infected piercing...should be healed

So I got my belly button pierced....almost 5 years ago. Somehow it's gotten infected.

Now, when I first got it pierced, the care sheet said "No rough sex," and I'm so smart, I went home and did that. The piercing got very swollen, red, etc, so I know what it is like to get it infected.

Anyways, it's swollen, kinda hard, is sore and basically back in that situation again. But it has healed, it's been almost 5 years...any suggestions? I haven't had sex (rough or not) in over a week so it shouldn't be infected from that.

I changed the jewelry, so it's one of the spiral rings now, so that if it swells more it doesn't push against the ends of a barbell (does that make sense?)

I've had mine for about five years, also. I haven't had any problems with it but it got infected a few months ago! I made a post about it in this section... What worked really really well for me was to mix sea salt and warm water in a shot glass, hold it over my belly button (so no water escapes), and shake. I did it a couple times a day. It cleared up in a couple of days.

This happens to me if I leave the same piece of jewelry in for a long time. What I want to know is...do they ever really heal? I had lost my ring while on vaca and didn't have one in for two days until I found a shop that sold them.

I had to push back through again...it was semi closed. And the ring was the same guage, so that wasn't it.

Ditto. This is the best thing for it.

When I used to have my eyebrow pierced, it would get infected once in a while, even way after it healed. I ended up taking it out a long time ago, but for about 1 year prior to that, I started to take good care of it by putting a little neosporin on it every couple of days. It kept the skin moisturized and completely free of infection. Mind you, since I was simply being proactive, I only put a tiny bit near the openings, not a lot....it was never noticeable to anyone else.

Is it just me, or did anyone else burst into giggles while picturing the wierd jiggle/pelvic thrusty thing you must have to do to shake the water back and forth?

Another similar thing that works is liquid epsom salts. Same method, or you can even put them in your bath and soak.

It's not infected, it's IRRITATED. I hate how people use those words interchangablly. If it was infected it'd be red, green, or an array of colors. It'd be hot to the touch and by now you'd probably be running a fever. I suggest cleaning it with Iodine free sea salt soaks. Just a pinch of sea salt plus some warm water. Soak it for ten minutes, twice a day and you should be fine.

I highly doubt it's infected, especially after 5 years. Irritated? Hell yes.

Actually I had a mental picture of Bella doing a pelvic thrust to keep that water in the cup

    It's infected if it's red. o.O

Anyway, piercings actually don't ever technically heal. Ever. Why do you think your ears close up after suchandsuch time or your piercing rejects after three years? It's not supposed to be there and it doesn't like it.

So it'll probably always need maitenence and care.
