    Angry Ebay fraudsters - grrr

Yesterday i was on ebay and found two seperate sellers that were using photos from MY website to sell their stuff!

I sent a polite email to each, explaining that they didn't have permission to use the photos (especially seeing as the items they're selling are obviously not the items in the photos) and asked if they'd please stop using my photos.

I got two nasty responses from one seller, basically calling me a liar - WTF?!
The photos are from my website, and show models wearing my stuff. The seller even said that she knows the real owner of the website (um, that would be me!) and that i should watch what i say.

I guess i can report that seller to Ebay, but i'm a bit worried that she might cause problems for me... I contacted her through ebay, so she knows my username.

What should i do? Ignore it and just let them keep using my pics, or report them to Ebay and come across as a bitch?

report her to e-bay. they are very good about this. send e-bay a link to your site showing them proof the photos are yours, plus copy the e-mail exchange. e-bay comes down pretty hard on fraudsters.

Damn. I went recently to an EB 'how-to', & there was some answer to preventing this. It was, I think, putting a date & some kind of mark on the pic. Can't remember exactly.
I just bought a small sample of perfume recently, & it was not very strong..diluted or old.

^Yup! *Always* watermark your pics. It's easiest (and safest) to just put your website address on the pic.

I'm a neophyte when it comes to this....but can't they photoshop it off?

Isn't there a program where you can protect your pics from being saved.

Oh, sure. It is just that they stole the photos because they were lazy. And editing out a watermark is NOT easy. It is likely that it would take hours to get rid of one watermark.

Thanks for the tips, im going to report the seller who has been nasty about it.
Some people really have a nerve huh? Ripping off photos from another website, then accusing me of being the liar.

Watermarks all the way from now on.

Meh, not a fan of watermarks myself... y'know there are ways to discourage image-theivery from the source, your site, like disabling right-clicking and/or putting a transparent .gif over em. Do that and would-be gankers will move on to easier pickins, unless someone wants a pic bad enough to sift thru their internet cache for it (guilty lol).

I like the transparent gif idea! Wouldn't have thought of that.

And thanks Mermaid but one of the pics is of you!!
They cut out most of your face, but i'd recognise those boobs anywhere lol!

I'm reporting them to Ebay. Would have just ignored it, but that particular seller was just so rude to me that it serves her right.

I just checked and she's taken the one with your photo down (or the auction ended).

The other seller (the nasty one) has put up a new auction using the same photo as before! She's got a nerve, i'll give her that!

O well, Ebay'll sort her out. i hope...

Watermarking is the ONLY sure-fire way to ensure your pics don't get stolen like that. Some people will still collect them for personal use or whatnot, but they can't use them on any commercial website with a big watermark right on them...

And yep, ebay is very strict on that sort of thing. Report the fraudsters and watch their listings disappear If they repost them, report them again. Ebay will ban their account if they keep doing it.
