    How to prevent mosquito bites?

Im off to thailand in a couple of months - the thing I remember the last time I was there was being covered in mosquito/sandfly bites! Obviously I will be taking insect repellant but I heard that there were some things you could take prior to travelling that would help ward them off - just wondering if anyone knew what they were?
    Thanks heaps!

I hate to say it but the only thing that's ever really been shown to be effective is DEET.

I drink aloe vera juice every day during the summer and the little bastards stay the hell away from me... and attack my fiance. When will he realize I know best? Silly boys.

Bring some unused dryer sheets with you. Rub them everywhere you need protection, and the little buggers won't come near you! (Love this when I'm travelling, as its easy to just fold a few into my purse/pocket).

Good ideas ladies. Also, when I used to go camping I was always told that I shouldnt eat alot of sugar b/c mosquitos love sugar.

Im headed off to Thailand too but in April... have fun over there!

Only male mosquitoes are attracted to "sweet" and they don't drink blood, only nectar, so that wouldn't make a difference.

Female mosquitoes that feed on blood are attracted through scent. They are extremely sensitive to the carbon dioxide in exhaled breath and are drawn to it. Being male, being overweight or having type O blood seems to increase your risk of being bitten.

If you don't want to go the DEET route, try catnip oil oe eucalyptus oil. Fans help also as mosquitoes don't seem to dig moving air...
