Default So I have a strained ligament...

and can't do any strenuous exercise for a couple of weeks. However, I don't want to get flabby. What can I do at the gym that's low impact other than working my upper body?

Which ligament did you strain? It will give us a better idea in which direction to point you.

Avoid anything that would involve side to side motion. The bicycle is easy on the knee joints and will build up the muscles around the knee. What about water aerobics?

Also, do not do any running/jogging on the treadmills.

Squats and lunges are out as well. MOST people do them wrong...and the pressure of weights on that ligament in squats and lunges is enough to really cause damage to an already hurt knee.

I think doing laps in the pool is a great idea. Full body workout (no impact)...builds every muscle in body, great cardio workout...
