so it's college application time!!!
There's some really liberal CA colleges that I'm applying to, and while I won't be sending the same statement of purpose, I was wondering if using my job as a dancer, and the experiences I've had on a statement of purpose would be the kiss of death for colleges like Berkeley or UC Santa Barbara. I've already proved myself at the graduate level (albeit with low but above the 3.0 min GPA level grades) so it's not like they're risking a spot on someone with just an undergraduate degree.
On the other hand, I was dancing when I had a scholarship, and in order to keep the scholarship I had to lie about my income (though really, not by a ton...it's not like I was making 100,000 or even 50,000 dollars, as I wasn't working that much, but still.)
I will be paying taxes this year, but I'm trying to figure out how to do that without declaring myself a dancer (though that's a dollar den question.)
So--
Question 1: Is it a plus or more of a liability to write about my experiences to these colleges?
Question 2: Because of the sticky tax issue, should I condense my dancing career into this past year? This would definitely lose something, as I started dancing TO support myself through grad work.
Do you think they'll report me to the IRS? It's not like I could prove what I made anyways--most of my bills were paid in cash, and while I added up what I made a few months at a time, I've lost and forgotten those amounts.
