wait, question, "The leader of the 2000 rapes in Sydney's southwest, Bilal Skaf, a Muslim, was initially sentenced to 55 years' jail, but later had the sentence reduced on appeal."
is this saying some guy raped 2000 women? or that in the year 2000 he raped a few?
meh. i think its a fair call. dunno what the fuss is over here with it all, except they are probably only focusing on it cos hes muslim. im sure if a christian leader said the same thing, there would be no uproar.
aussies a racist.
the muslim dude has a point. he wasnt literally saying we were pieces of meat, the way i see if he was making a refrence to cats and eating meet. its a justa comparision, not to be taken literally imo.
besides, if a chick goes out late at night alone, wearing skimpy clothes, shes got to be stupid. if she gets raped, she kinda was asking for it. nobody deserves to be raped that for sure, but being sensible about where you are a certain times of night and what your wearing would contribute to your chance of getting raped.
its not an excuse for a rapist to use, but in all honesty, i can see how it is just teasing the guys into wanting it in the first place.
out of sight out of mind and all that.
im gonan get flamed for saying all this, but i do agree qith him on some extent. and it was a good analgy with the cats i think.

MNZ, watch out. I said something simillar about 2.5 years ago. everyone twisted it to think i was saying, "all rapes are the fault of women." I dont think a woman dressing scantily makes her "ask for it" but i think it probably does increase her RISK of being raped. Hopefully now, people reading this will see im just saying it increases her risk and doesn't associate any blame towards her. Just by existing you run the risk of being raped. going outside increases that risk. other behavoirs increase that risk even more. Doesn't mean someone shouldn't engage in certain behaviors or they're too blame. Is this clear now? or am i too going to get flamed. If you disagree, fine, we're not going to prove it either way.
^^^ yeah i know what you mean. and, yeah, i think we may have taken the wrong side on this debate![]()
If comparing women to meat and men to animals sounds somewhat reasonable to you, certainly this doesn't as well?
'The sheik then said: "If she was in her room, in her home, in her hijab, no problem would have occurred."
He said women were "weapons" used by "Satan" to control men.'
The man's obviously an idiot.

well, so far theres no debate :-P and just to let you know, my side is always the right side.

Mermaid, what he's saying is that he thinks that women should cover themselves up, even their heads, because doing otherwise is tempting men. That's different than saying a woman shouldn't dress like a total slut in public.Originally Posted by mermaidnz

Okay, so jeans and a tee shirt is okay and not late at night.. but god forbid that I might want to show off my nice legs with a mini skirt and oh no look.. it's a cute top that shows some cleavage. Nope, thats it..I might as just lay down right here because.. HEY, you guessed it. I am asking to be raped..
You all seem to of forgotten one key point. Rape is a crime of power. Not sexual passion.
One serial killer chose his victims by the color of their hair and it's length.

^^^^ Exactamundo!
Grannies, nuns and infants are raped. Out goes the mufta's argument.
many rapes are opportunistic.
if its late at night and your walking alone wearng a lil mini skirt, heels, and a low cut top, your not ASKING for it, but you are advertising what COULD happen in a sick rapists eyes.
Most rapes have fuck all to do with what the victim is wearing and thats a fact.
Community leaders should know better than to start harping on about how women dress when the real issue is about rapists and their lack of respect for others.

This was on the news. I couldn't care less. What someone SAYS I should do doesn't necessarilly mean I have to do it. I also practice sodomy and eat shellfish, so someone's beliefs are of no concern to me. Who cares what someone who has no power over you think?

i don't think you guys appreciate the cultural differences. to him skimpy clothes means not covering a woman's hair. to make that type of claim in australia is a bit extreme. (i.e. all the non-muslim girls showing their hair are inviting rape)
^^^ I appreciate the cultural differancies, but I dont see your point.

So if an advertisement teases someone by making a product look sexy...should they be able to just take it?
As someone said before...by your rationale strippers must also deserve to be groped, raped, whatever.
Yes, Aussies have a tendency to be racist. In fact, after travelling extensively I find people have a tendency to be racist. Show me a race who defies this!
Yes, I believe the general Muslim community in Sydney are a big danger to Australian society. There is the odd sane individual....but generally speaking...They're psycho's.
For the record, outside of work I don't dress skimpy. This is just my preference, not that I don't wish to be raped![]()

My friend was raped in a sweatshirt and baggy jeans. I honestly don't think men are looking at clothes; rape is primarily a crime of opportunity. They're getting off on the pain they cause, and that has nothing whatsoever to do with clothing.
I will never understand why the same people who believe that men are superior and more intelligent will turn around in the same breath and say that men are such stupid, helpless animals that they have no power whatsoever to control themselves around a woman. Seems to me that an intelligent being designed for leadership and responsibility would be able to behave around a mere woman.![]()
Its kind of interesting to me that the muslim guy quoted sounds a whole lot like someone transplanted from western society of the 19th-early 20th century. Back in the day women were often blamed for rape because they dressed too sexy or behaved like they were "asking for it". Modern mainstream western society has moved way past this craziness, fortunately. But I bet there are still plenty of Christian fundamentalists who's views dont differ all that much from those espoused by the muslim leader in terms of shifting the blame to the victim.

I think any religious leader who said such a thing in this day and age would be equally as offensive. It's stupid.

^^^ There have been a few christian leaders who have said simular things over the years. I forget who now, but I do know ive heard it more than once since ive been in Australia.
Im not trying to trivialise this thread, but has anyone noticed whats listed in the simular thread below?
I just thought it was slightly funny...

When I got raped I was wearing jeans and three jumpers.
