Default How hard is it to promotoe yourself?

I want to do private parties, etc, but I dont' want to go through an agency, I just want to do it on my own. Is it really difficult to promote yourself?? Hard to get business. Is it even worth my time to not go through an agency. I'm in Phoenix, so it's not like it's a small place. Any opinions?

    well
    thats good for you,
because agencys take all the money
you can easily charge 500 an hour,
and only do 2 gigs a week and make a few grand.
no its not difficult at all,
i would say go to a print shop
    and have business pamplet/cards made
with your picture and more info about
    your availabilty and contact info.
another way to promote in a adult clasified
i know in nearby Hollywood theres a huge one
    lots of girls advertise there,
does phoenix have something like that?
    a website you'll need one,
you can get one done cheap
theres plenty of nerds like me to be found lol.
    and last but not least,
never show up to a gig alone
even if you know the guy your doing it for.
    drunk guys can become animals,
    take a bouncer with you,
if you have a boyfriend and hes a burly guy
take him, otherwise bouncers from local
clubs are always down to make a few extra bucks.
i hope i was of help
i also noticed you have your myspace profile in your signature
    theres a place called xpeeps.com
its like myspace but for the adult industry
you could also advertise on their classified ads

    cheers

No. You want an agency starting out. You can make five hundred an hour with an agency. It's not that bad. Yes, they get some money, but they book the work, deal with the assholes, everything. You just show up, do your thing and leave with money.

    that works too,
but she also said she doesnt want to deal with them.
    i dunno,
you win i really cant argue with it,
a agency does do a lot for the dancer.

Oh THANK YOU Cally! I'm glad I'm not the only one who has noticed this... seriously ernesto... stick to the sections of the board where customers are welcome. Stay the fuck out of all the stripper sections as you are only 18 years old and no matter how often you visit strip clubs and how much money/time you spend there in total............. YOU ARE A CUSTOMER.

You will NEVER know what it is really like. Go away! Oh man you are really annoying.

    Back to the thread:

Personally I would recommend starting with an agency. Yes they take a cut and some are more greedy in their commissions than others however you won't have to front up any money to get started except investing in good shows (costumes and music).

Not to mention it is the agency that has to deal with all the BS from potential and actual clients.

It is only worth going out on your own and doing it independantly if you can guarantee yourself private party work (have contacts you made in the club to help you get started) so as you can build yourself up from there as well as have a few girls who work with/for you (as you won't be able to do all the bookings plus some bookings require multiple girls).

Otherwise, if you are starting out with no contacts (and no reliable girls) then it is best to work with/for an agency then branch out independantly once you have established yourself (after a year or two you should be able to get some work independantly).

start with an agency until you get a feel for private party work and develop a clientele base. i personally find agency work far easier than freelance.

Default Re: How hard is it to promotoe yourself?

I work for an agency that books private parties in Pheonix, and they are very generous with their dancers.

I have promoted myself in the past and had some success with it. I took out a display ad in the local weekly independent newspaper at a rate of about $150 a week. I had to have a cell phone for the customers to call me on. I would lose business if I didn't answer, so I pretty much had to keep the phone on me all the time.

I worked with another dancer so we could do the shows together. Most of the requests for bachelor parties are for two dancers, so you will definately need a couple of other girls that you like working with to go and do shows with. I had a website made up with photos of myself and the other girls I worked with. Most customer's won't book unless they can see photos.

You will also need about 3-4 reliable bouncers to work with you as well. Why so many? Because you need to know that when you have a show that you will always have a bouncer. Never, never, never do a show w/o a bouncer. I currently have a list of 4 personal bouncers that I work with.

I pay my bouncers about $50 per 1 hour party plus 10% of my tips. Those guys are worth their weight in gold. Take good care of them.

In Phoenix you can get about $200 per dancer per hour. Or if you want to do lesbian style sex shows (with another dancer) then you are looking at about $250 per dancer per hour, before tips. I recommend starting at about $300 per hour for one on one shows, more if they want a toy show. One on One shows don't tip as well as big parties.

Toy shows and lesbian shows are illegal in Arizona. So when discussing this with customers on the phone, be very obtuse in case LE is checking you out. I say things like "It will be like making a porno movie in your living room" or "The girls put on a full lesbian fantasy show for your viewing pleasure". Basically saying what the customer wants to hear w/o saying exactly what is going to happen at the party.

Have a paypal account set up to take deposits on your parties. I don't know how many times I've been called by people trying to pull a prank, or showing up and the guys don't have the cash to pay me. Sheesh, I could have been at another party I turned down because these lame asses already made the booking. The worst is showing up at the right time at the right place and no one is home. Always get a deposit on your shows. This makes the legit customer more comfortable as well, because you are set up as a business professional. It is fairly simple to set up merchant services these days, too, so you could even accept credit cards directly.

Just like any business venture, there will be some cash outlay before you even get started. But it isn't too bad, likely you won't have to pay more than $2000 to get your website up (obviously cheaper if you know how to do this yourself), your advertizing, your business phone and your bouncers. You also want to print up some business cards to take with you to your shows. There will always be guys wanting to know how they can call you for future business. They will call from those business cards, too.

You can also give out the business cards to your favorite bouncers at the clubs you dance in. That will help generate more income for you. Whenever I get a show from one of those cards I tip the person $20. I know they went out of their way for me, so I take care of him/her.

Good luck with your new business. It is a lot of fun, but like anything, can be pretty frustrating at times, too.

Thank you so much Paris, I think I will start a website. My husband is really really supportive and he's gonna be my bouncer and body guard type of person for all the shows. I think I will start working for an agency and do that while I'm starting to promote myself with my website. A friend of mine is a graphic designer so I can get my website up real cheap. And I also have a business contact for cards, etc, so I think that it won't even cost too much for me to get started independently. When you do private shows do you always have a "costume". I mean like a nurse, police woman, school girl, etc. Or just like a gown, or a regular costume you would wear if you were dancing at a club? Haha keep all the info coming, I wanna know everything! thanks!

Why is private work so cheap in America? Getting dances in a club is more pricey than just getting a girl delivered! Why don't men go to clubs anymore? Because a private stripper is so much cheaper! It just seems weird to me that it'd be so well-priced.

Tipping is expected to at least match the amount paid to get the dancer there. It is sort of like the $200 an hour is the cover charge and tipping is required on top of that.

Many times the girls will walk out of a party with $500 each (or more) after tips for a one hour show.

Just a heads up Alexa on the website whilst you are working with the agencies: make it generic. If you want to know what I mean, go to my website (www.goldcoastgirl.info) for a start. Yes it's a myspace profile however it does what it needs to do (which is show me off, keep client up2date) so I am using that for the time being.

If you are working for one specific agency only (exclusively), then have a look at Darcy's website ( www.darcyfoxx.com ) as she works for one specific agency therefore can readily mention it on her website.

As for business cards, once again make them good however leave a space for you to fill in the phone number of the agency you work with unless you will be working with one agency exclusively. This way you can use your own cards at the bookings without infringing upon the agency (they gave you the booking, don't steal their clients as they will bad mouth you to other agents) unless, once again, you will be working with one agency exclusively then you can have that agency's phone number printed on the cards as well as email address with your web address listed on the bottom as such.

As far as I know, you can turn up in costume at the private party bookings in the US (it is standard to do so here in Australia as it is a themed show always) ......... the standard costumes you should have in your wardrobe are School Girl, Cop/Police, Nurse at the very least. Then you can go from there: Bondage Mistress, Army, etc....... however, unfortunately, guys aren't that inventive or imaginative when it comes to costume requests.

Personally, I specalise in School Girl. I have other outfits however have three versions of the School Girl outfit as I feel it is my specialty show (the one I'm really really good at doing) so will turn up in that outfit if no outfit/costume is specifically requested.

Crap! You know how much I had to in through to get this one? Me and two other people were on the floor of a porn store that had the largest collection we could find. 'I'm looking for an ashlee in this three week time frame, I don't know the page or what she's wearing, but she's a brunette!' This time, PM me so I can get it that week! Lol.

Im in Phoenix too. I was thinking about doing the same thing. I already have AWESOME security and have done private shows in the past (just for a regular) never a bachelor party or anything though I want to. I was actually considering maybe just doing it independantly for my solo guys and with one other girl (for parties) We should talk. I reccommend just printing up business cards. keep it simple. If a customer at the club asks if you do private shows get his # thats what I did. Just be sure you're VERY UP FRONT about price and what you will or wont do. I told my guy $900 for 2 hr **DANCING ONLY** Brought my security paid him $100 told my guy I had to pay my security so if he "wanted to tip....Id SO appreciate it". got an extra $200 AND he bought me a Tiffany's Necklace for a "Gift" took home $1000 and Tiffany's 2hr of work. Its a GREAT idea just have to be REALLY CAUTIOUS. Lotsa weirdos. My security is the tpe that WILL ACT if something goes down that is FAR more important than advertising. Hope that helps. If you want to talk about doing parties together give me a holla.

This is why when I chose a full stage name (Vanessa Stacy or Vanessa Stacey) I chose one I knew I would be happy with for a loong loong time as it is really hard and confusing for people to start calling you something else if you have been Darcy Foxx for years.

The only way I could possibly see the two names working is if you created a definate clear split between the two names. Ashlee Adams is the Crazy Horse showgirl and thus you do not mention anything in re: private party dancing or anything "Darcy Fox" related on that website whereas Darcy Fox is your private party showgirl name (and thus you do not advertise yourself at Crazy Horse via that website).

If you have 'made up your mind' to go with Ashlee Adams instead of Darcy Fox the only other way is to make your Darcy Fox website nearly defunct. You can still have it however over the course of a couple of months start shutting it down and re-directing people to the Ashlee site to the point where your website address of www.darcyfoxx.com will fwd people to the Ashlee Adams site (or else a page that will re-direct people). You will also, naturally, need to cancel your SW account of Darcy Fox and try to re-sign up as Ashlee Adams or AussieAshlee or whatever (just another way to stop the confusion and have people call you Ashlee over Darcy).

In re: the website, please email me ( [email protected] ) as I am getting prices from a few different people (not just you) before I make up my mind with what I will be doing (whether I will have a go at creating a website or pay someone else as I want to use www.goldcoastgirl.com independant from www.goldcoastgirl.info as well as my Vanessa Stacy domain names)

damnit.. I was too slow.. www.goldcoastgirl.com.au is taken! no fair! I really wanted it. Looked it up via www.whois.com.au and will email ( [email protected] ) to find out what their plans for it shall be as I was hoping to get that domain. Ah well.. my consolation prize is that I did get www.goldcoastgirl.com (and thus hoping I get some of the traffic from www.goldcoastgirls.com as people WILL forget to type the s in that domain name!! hehehe).
