    Default Grief and weight

As I've stated before, my brother commited suicide about 10 days ago. I suppose I'm still in the shock period of grief, but I've had no appetite. I'm losing about a pound a day, sometimes a little more, and I don't have much weight to lose (I'm pretty thin already). Along with no appetite, when I do eat, I usually feel nauesous and run to puke it up or gag, and it's hard to get fluids down. What should I do? I've lost over 10 pounds already, and I'm thinking of checking myself into a hospital or something.

Yes go to the hospital. You should at least get an IV to replace fluids.

If it's hard to even get fluids down, then you may want to give serious consideration to going to the hospital. Depending on how much you've been able to keep down, you may already be dehydrated (and not know it yet).

If you can manage to at least drink something, try to do some protein shakes (or something similar, like meal replacement shakes) until you get your appetite back. Because of the situation, it could take some time for your mind and your body to get back in tune.

That said, if you truly have not drank very much and do not feel that you can keep down anything of substance, then check yourself into a hospital before you pass out or have any other complications.

Yeah I think I might as well. I've been really tired and dizy when I stand up lately, and my eyes are having trouble focusing.

Yeah, that's not good. At all.

Go to a hospital and get yourself taken care of. You've been through a lot and there's only so much your mind and body can take.

I've heard of people smoking pot in the situations as well as serious illnesses...cancer, glaucoma and so on... I don't use drugs myself so I kinda feel like a tard saying this. "Do as I say not as I do" This is also one of my favorite quotes from my favorite Jr. High teacher Mr. Ladine. (He recently died last Febuary...the memorial service was standing room only). I know how hard it is to love someone so very dear to your heart...it hurts so much. I'm getting teary-eyed just thinking of my grandmother. She died of cancer July 5th of 2005. I stopped working to take care of her full time. I held her hand to the very end. At least I got to say good-bye. I know that you most likely didn't get to do that with your brother. Some kind of closure is very important for the healing process. There are support group for familys of suicide victoms. Go see your Dr. and get help. The whole not eating thing can ruin your health for while. You need to drink plenty of liquids. Drink Boost or something like it for calories. Try Gatoraide or Poweraide to help replace the electrolites in your body. You have to have electrolite balance to maintain proper heart function. (People with aneroxia drop usually drop dead of heartattacks, due to the lack of electrolites.) Your body will start metabolizing your muscle tissue...not just body fat and this is very dangerious. Your heart is a muscle too, and since you only have one you need to take care of it!
