Default Applying for a job...shot girl?

I have never danced before and am very interested. The club I am interested in is on the upscale side and has an application on their website. The weird thing is they ask for 2 references. Who on earth would I list as references for dancing!? The only good references would be people that I don't want to know that I am dancing. I have spent the night looking through this forum and a lot of people have mentioned that a lot of times if you just show up you can audition and even start work on the spot. This club had the audition times listed as the same hours that the club is open so I assume that I could do that. One thing I was interested in doing is being a shot girl for awhile so I can hang around the club clothed and learn more before I jump right up on stage. It would give me a chance to get used to hustling and get used to the club and how everything works, and learn by watching other girls perform and give dances. Sound like a good idea? My question is, how does being a shot girl usually work, pay wise?

Also from what I've read on here it seems like dancing schedules can be very flexible. Obviously every place is different, but typically, is it easy to find a place that you can pretty much work whenever you want? I have a full-time job and would just like to do this for something different and fun and obviously the extra money, maybe one night per week. Would I be able to just come in on a Friday one week, maybe a Saturday or Sunday on another? How do shifts usually work? If I am working a Friday night am I there for an 8 hour shirt or until close? Again, I know it is different in any club and the only way for me to really find out is to just show up or call and ask the club I am interested in, but I figured I would try and educate myself a little more before I even went that far. I am definatly nervous about going for a job!

One more question. I have seen that there are specific thongs for dancing and was wondering where do get one. I have searched online and have found nothing... I have shopped from stores that sell dancing gear before (I usually wear "stripper shoes/boots" etc when I go clubbing so I'm familiar with getting around on 5"-6" platforms!) but have never seen the thongs...

If you've found a store that sells the shoes, they probably had the thongs somewhere in there, they arent too hard to find.

Its more than easy to find a club that doesn't do scheduling, some do minimum shifts, but most I've encountered have been schedule free.

Most also let you audition and start that night. You might want to call because the website might not be accurate. Just call and ask for the person in charge of hiring and ask when would be the best time to show up and if you get hired will you be working that night, so you know if you need to bring an outfit, gear, etc.

I dont know about where you are but I wouldnt do the shot girl thing. I've seen many a shot girl go on strike and walk out. I rarely find someone who enjoys or makes much money. Could be different where you are but I'd say get used to the atmosphere by jumping into dancing. Its not as hard as it seems.

I dont mean this to sound bitchy at all, but once you start dancing you'll probably start to realize that girls who wear stripper shoes/boots to clubs look a little tacky. Not that you aren't free to wear what you want, just my opinion thrown in there. But its good you've got practice wearing them!

Hope some of this helps. Just pull out your phone book and make some calls. Its not too hard to find little hidden boutiques or even big not hidden ones that sell the things you'll need to get started and they are usually helpful. Find out whats legal at the club your starting at before you buy them, because they get expensive.

    Happy job hunting.

I dunno about being a shot girl, but as far as schedules you should be able to find a club that works for ya. Mine doesn't set anything except that you have to work a day outta Sat-Mon to come in any other day of the following week.

Never heard of a place asking for refs, odd... but don't sweat it, if they insist you could find some locals here to back ya.

Stripper thongs are easy to find in the right place, which is a store specifically for strippers. Cute thongs from lingerie stores won't cut it, at least where I am in TX, as the thong MUST be completely lined (seperate inner and outer layer). Also, 'lingerie' thongs aren't made of as flexible stuff as stripper ones, so they'd be uncomfy too. You should just ask your prospective club what they want you to have as there is a lil variation out there, they could prolly point you to a boutique that stocks em as well, some places even have shops IN the club.

Do you happen to know any online stores that sell the thongs? I'd be interested just to look at them, but to actualy buy, I will probably go to the stores on South Street that I'm used to. As for the stripper shoes/boots, they are very common in the types of clubs I go to (goth/industrial/fetish/cyber etc). A lot of people are models, dancers, musicians, dommes, suicide girls, or just girls like me who like the look but havent made a job out of it...yet. It's not like I wear the just anywhere, that would be tacky... going out to eat in my 5" platform bubble gum pink vinyl boots, hehe.

Thanks for the info, I think I am going to email the girl on the website and see how much info she will give me as far as working at the club so I can decide what I want to do. I do assume that a shot girl would make less money, but do you have any idea how their pay works? Are they actually club employees or does it work similar to the dancers?

What are shifts usually like at clubs? 4 hours, 8 hours, 6 hours?

Shot girls in the couple of clubs I have been to didn't get paid by the club. The bartenders, waitresses, dancers, and shot girls were all on their own, the DJ's and housemoms sometimes as well. There are millions of online sites that sell exotic dancerwear/thongs. You can go to ebay and type in exotic dancer, you can go to google and type in "exotic dancewear", there are alot of links all over this site that lead to online stores as well.

As for shifts it will vary from club to club. Often Shotgirls and waitresses, etc, those types are on a schedule, and its usually from 6-8 hours, In my experience.

i've known a few shot girls who made really great money, but there's still a bit of "hustle" involved. you aren't dancing, but the waitresses and shot girls i know who make good tips are generally good at flirting and working their tables. also, it depends on how the club sells its shots. usually girls get tipped better for body shots/cleavage shots and that sort of thing.

Which club in Philadelphia are you trying to be a shot girl at? There are two or three places that I think would be worth it. Other then that you would probably make shit. I am at Risque right now so if you are thinking of trying Risque pm me.

General replies to the past few posts... Love E-Zone, haven't been there in awhile and definatly need to make a trip! Mostly interested in Delilahs. Havent been to Risque yet but have heard good things and want to visit. The shot girls as Delilah's seem to do well, they walk around, do their thing, hustle, climb up on a customer give him a $5 shot and hopefuly a tip. I usually tip $2 per shot. I just thought it might be a nice way to ease into the atmosphere, being able to have my top on, rub my boobs in peoples faces for less than a minute and take time to observe the stage and girls giving lap dances. Honestly, I'm not too nervous about the stage, it's more the lap dances, having to single-handedly entertain someone for an entire song and not do the same thing over and over... I would love to get into pole work, I know I would have fun with it but have never really tried and I know it will kill me at first... uggh! Out of curiously, how did everyone get into dancing? Did most of you just start one day or have a lot of you done some pole classes, started as a waitress or shot girl then got into the dancing? I'd be interested to know how you guys taught yourselves to be good dancers.
