    Default Songs to dance to

One more question. I have heard that sometimes the girls get to pick what they dance to. How does that work? I met a stripper once who only danced to hard rock and metal and someone told me about another club that the girls pick their song for when they are on the main stage but then dance to the 2 other songs when they are on the 2 other stages. Is this typical in a lot of clubs or do many not allow you to pick music? I would have an AWESOME time dancing to my music!!!! Do they ever put limitations on the type of music? I am mostly into underground type music (goth/industrial/synth pop) not the stuff you hear on the radio, but it is mostly club music and very dancable.

I think it's usual for clubs to let you pick your music. At my club every girl has a music profile for the DJ to go off, you can be as specific or vague as you want, and they also wanna know how much strobe/fog/ect you want going on for your set. They also said it was cool to bring in a CD if I wanted something they didn't have. They're pretty open to whatever, but we do have a short 'blacklist' of disallowed songs.

As for dancing on the side to someone else's song, back up a lil and lemme explain- usually a club will have more than one stage going at a time, one main one and a couple sidestages, and they're filled by rotation. I.e., you get called to mainstage and do your thing for a song or two of your choosing, then you go and take over at sidestage #1, the girl you took over for goes to sidestage #2, and the girl she took over for is then free from stage to work the floor. So, when you're on mainstage the sidestage girls are dancing to your tunes, and when you're on a sidestage you're dancing to the mainstage girl's tunes.

At my club we usually dance 3 songs to 4 songs, and we have just one stage. Our DJ picks the music. However, we can tell him what particular songs we like, bands/singers we like, genre, etc. But, some clubs also have rules pertaining to the types of music they play. At mine they don't like to play much rap, so we dance to a lot of rock, pop, and the DJ tries to put in some hip-hip and R&B. The DJ asked me on my first day what I liked and he played a lot of stuff that yes, I like to listen to, but not dance to. I try to just talk with him and he tries to play me a good mix.

    Two quick points for you.

    (a) If you are going to dance to more common stuff, try not to be the 6th girl who dances to that track that night - doesn't make you stand out from the crowd.

    (b) Remember you are dancing for an audience - don't stray too far from mainstream cos you're in the business of selling dances, not impressing them with how offbeat your musical taste is.

Have fun picking the music you like, but don't lose track of the fact it's us poor custys you need to get dances from - your music also has to be selected with that in mind. Goth might be a turn off for older patrons.

It all depends on the club. Large clubs and some of the chain clubs have no interaction between Dj and dancer at all, your gonna generally have top 40 or very recognizable "safe" type music played. There is so much variety in how medium to small clubs are run to say what is or isn't goin on or allowed. As long as the music is allowed or appropriate for the time of day or night most places let you play what you want or at least the genre. If you would like a better chance of getting exactly what you want then COMMUNICATE with your Dj what that is! Telling the Dj you like something but leaving out that little part about "but not to dance to in the club" or "only in Arkansas when I'm with so and so on Tuesdays" might tend to CONFUSE or IRRITATE him. Tell him what you want to dance to "NOW" as in when I go on stage at this particular club on this particular date and you'll probaly get it!!

It's normal in most clubs to pick your own music.I used to dance and had to stop for family reasons and am now thinking for returning. The club where I worked had 3 stages...The first, the second, and the main. You danced to "your" song on the main stage and on the others you were dancing to the other girl's songs.I always found it was easiest just to take the time and type or write out a play list of what you like and just give it to the dj.

What kind of music do you like and what mainstreme music have you found that is easy for you to dance to based on that? My problem is that I don't really know what's popular right now. I don't listen to the radio and I don't go to mainstreme clubs so I am not even too familiar with what I might like to dance other then the stuff I listen to. At Delilah's last week, I noticed a lot of modern rock type songs from a few years ago being played, stuff that I knew from when I did listen to th radio a little bit. Some of them were not too dancable though. One girl on here suggested classic rock since a lot of the customers with money enjoy that type of music. I should start listening to the classic rock station here and educate myself, because again, I don't know any of that either!

I'm a bit anxious on whether to tone down my music taste and go for something more mainstream. My music taste consists of Norwegian black metal and thats pretty much it lol.
Not sure how well it would go down in a club.

I LOVE IT!! I'm totally obsessed with Dimmu Borgir and Ragnarok and stuff(well those two shared the same singer, Shagrath used to be in Ragnarok, then went to Dimmu Borgir) but yeahI don't think that would work too well in the club, but good taste!!
