    Rents tipped to skyrocket

RENTS are tipped to skyrocket over the next five years due to a housing shortage across the country, an economic forecaster said.

...not good news for me personally as I was hoping to move out into a better place in February next year. It looks like I might have some competition on my hands and may have to be prepared to pay higher rent overall. I know that I do NOT want to stay in the shithole I am in currently so I guess I will have to keep my flatmate as it won't be viable for me to keep renting without a flatmate. I don't want to buy a house/home as interest rates are going to increase yet again!

Higher rent... will that make land higher? Michael and I decided to build our home instead of rent/buy it... but if there's a housing SHORTAGE... how will that be effected since I'm making my own? o.O

And rent skyrocketed in Brissy recently. At first my 190 rent was OMGSOHIGH... now it's low. And it's been EIGHT MONTHS.. shit. o.O

hmm im not noticing much of a price hike in rents. maybe ive been getting lucky tho.

there is a shortage of builders lillith, so even if you were building your home, you would be paying a fortune for the builders too.

Yeah I heard about that, too. Augh. Luckily it's not for a few years. :/

I'm paying $225 per week for a two bedroom, one bathroom, top floor (not that high a unit block) unit/apartment. I've had the same rent for years. They havn't increased it because I have a feeling that they KNOW I would then demand alot of work be done on this shithole in order to justify the rent increase (it desparately needs new carpets as it has been nearly 6 years now with the same damn carpet!!... not to mention the tiles that are starting to come off the walls... and so on and so forth).

I was hoping for a house with some sort of front or back yard (even if it isn't that big, just SOMETHING) that is tiled throughout (except maybe the bedrooms) with at least a SLUG (single lock up garage not a carport) with 2 bedrooms (possibly three as the third would be used as a home office so I could claim some of the rent as a business deduction) and one bathroom in the Southport-Labrador area........for less than $300 per week. I'm starting to think I might be dreaming if this article is anywhere near the truth.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I have a really QQ about Aussie tax.

I've lodged my tax return online at 12:07am on November 01, 2006 (I didn't realise my stupid clock was running 10 mins late).

So that means I've officially missed the tax deadline. Am I going to be penalised?

    Thanks girls.

Are you blind? You could've easily posted this question in http://www.stripperweb.com/forum/showthread.php?t=48517 the For Australians thread. You did hi-jack the thread. I have answered your question in that thread

back to the topic on hand... I was listening to the latest CD from my wealth mentor (Ed Burton) and he mentioned how prices of houses etc are going DOWN in Sydney and that indeed the rental market is very very tight in a lot of places (2% was a figure of rental vacancy rates he said for alot of places). So tight the rental market was in some places that people were having rental auctions!

You heard me right. Auctions for places to rent! He also said (listen up!) that it would be a good time for anyone to buy a unit in the Docklands (or near-by) area right now.

Supposedly the rental market is so tight (and yes rents will increase as investment property yields are low - rents usually decrease when yields are high) because of people selling their properties due to interest rate rises (not being able to keep up with the payments as such).

Interest rate rises along with most areas having house prices fall not gain (you can still buy a house in this market however really it is a time to wait) or being near the end of their good times (the perth and darwin markets are still going good however cannot for much longer) means that there are more people looking for places to live........... not to mention the influx of immigrant workers (due to our skill shortage supposedly).

So be prepared to "do battle" for rental places esp. in Sydney from what I am hearing.

just a note for non-Aussies that the exchange rate is such that 1 Australian dollar = about 76 US cents. Thus the 190 AUD weekly rent is only equal to $ 144 US dollars.

As aforementioned, sorry about hijacking the thread. I'll search the threads more carefully before posting next time round. Thankyou for answering my question in detail though GCG.
