    Default Ovarian cysts

I looked up some old threads about it, but have a few questions. After sharp pelvic pain after sex lastnight, i went to the emergency room all day for an exam and ultra sound. The doctor finally told me that is it either an ovarian cyst(i have the paper on it and know about it) or some other type of cyst that he did not have info on. For some reason i think it had the name obstruct...abesto.. in it...i dunno i was in a daze from morphine. Anyway he explained that the second kind could mean an infection so he gave me antibiotics for it, incase it was that second kind. He also mentioned something that can grow up to 3 centimenters i think. I will be seeing the hospitals gyno on Tuesday. Until then, anyone have more info? The nurse said it was ok and had nothing to do with cancer or anything bc i was nervous. Thanks in advance.

I remember when I suffered a ruptured cyst last year OHMIGOODNESS that shit HURT!!!! When I went to the ER and they told me that I had a ruptured cyst I was scared shitless. Anyway I went to see my gyno the next day and he told me that it was perfectly normal. Most women get them at some point or another but don't even know about it. EVERY woman develops tiny cysts called functional cysts which contain our eggs before their menstrual cycle. When eggs grow the sac (cyst) bursts and then dissolves, however sometimes this doesn't happen and so the cyst continues to grow (now called a follicular cyst) and becomes painful, they usually subside within a few months. If they don't shrink or you keep developing them your gyno might suggest that you be prescribed the BC pill, only for a few months though.

I developed another cyst in Feb and when to the gyno as I was starting to get worried that something might be wrong. Anyway 2 weeks later I became pregnant so they really are not that serious.

Of course there are the more serious types of conditions like Polycystic ovaries and Endometriosis but they would have noticed anything serious like that during your US.

Make that appointment with the gyno for your piece of mind but I'm sure that you are fine and have nothing to worry about hun.

Some things they will probably do are an ultra sound to see if you are poly cystic ( a string of 5 or more pearl sized cysts) and then you are likely to be diagnosed with pcos. Symptoms of this are irregular period, being a "hairy girl" cystic acne on face, mood swings, and hairloss or widening of the part in the same spot as a man would start going bald. There are more symptoms, but that's all I can think of right now.

They will probably also look for "chocolate" cysts, which signal Endometriosis wich is pretty serious. Endometriosis usually involves one or more surgeries to remove cysts, being put on bc to controll the development and rupturing of cysts ( because the blood from these is re-absorbed by surrounding organs and is very very painful) and sometimes if it starts to affect your health too badly, you may have to get a hysterectomy.

There are other things it could be, but these two are two of the more serious ones.

Sounds like the second thing the doc mentioned was a tubo-ovarian abscess. Did he do a pelvic exam and bloodwork on you?? His suspicion for that must have been very low. I usually admit people with abscesses. Please do not miss that appointment for a re-evaluation. If you develop a fever before then, get back to the ED for a re-evaluation. And don't forget to take your antibiotics.

i had cyst problems every time around my period from feb 06-oct 07
it's HELL on earth really, im sooo scared that they are going to come back. taking birth control is supposed to prevent them, i will try anything. when you went to the ER wasn't it annoying to see someone with a rash while you feel like your insides are getting stabbed and they are falling out?
