Default Need Pap and STD test, no insurance

I need a pap smear and an STD test (the full one, with HPV and HSV, but not HIV b/c I can get that from donating blood), but I have no medical insurance. In your experience, how much are trips to Planned Parenthood and Family Planning? Also, I live in Houston. Has anyone ever been to the Montrose Clinic?

The PP here does thier pricing based on your income. Your bill can be anywhere from $100-$215.

Most major cities have a free clinic.

Please DON'T get tested for HIV just by donating blood. It risks contaminating the blood supply. Lifeblood will do a free HIV test if you ask; you don't have to go through the whole donation.

I signed up for some program at PP. I don't pay when I go there. I had to prove that I was a citizen, and that I made under 10 grand a year. They accepted a note as my income 'proof'.

Before I joined whatever program that is, I was paying very little. I remember paying like 40 for my annual exam with all the smears and stuff. That was years ago now. Even the sliding scale at PP probably has increased it's range...

As far as I know, Planned Parenthood does not always offer a full-shebang testing. For example, you can't get a HepC test done there, and can't get the more thorough pap.

When I go I have them check me for everything they can, though and it usually comes out to about $160.

It's best to just call them and ask, though as I think their services vary by locale.

I guess they are different everywhere. When I wanted to get tested for everything they could only do chlamydia and ghonerea and the other tests were $50. I paid anyways b/c well where else could I go? When I used to go for HPV monitoring/testing I wouldnt get charged anything but I instead made a $50 donation instead.

I recommend calling around for an STD Clinic in your area.

County Hospitals generally have low-cost STD testing which includes an HIV test. When I went to a county hospital in my area, I saw all types of people there, because it was dirt cheap. The staff was alot more professional than Planned Parenthood, the place was cleaner, and it only cost $35 for everything, that includes treatment. The service is so cheap because it's funded by the state. The only thing the STD clinic didn't do is a pap smear, but you can find a low-cost clinic that does this when you go into the county. They can provide you with a directory of other discount OB/GYNE clinics.

I no longer go to Planned Parenthood. I have found cheaper options with a higher level of service. When you call around and ask about prices also ask if they have a sliding scale for the low-income.
