    Default Coldhearted firings.......

So, I found out recently that the way my club fires girls is to tape an eviction notice on her locker, along with a trash bag. That shit makes me paranoid. I don't think I'll get fired anytime soon, but if I did I'd at least want them to have the cajones to tell me to my face.

Anyone else have practices like this in their club?

I went on Vacation over the summer for three weeks to Ireland. My manager said to call when I get back so they could put me back on the schedule. I call and my manager pretends not to know me! So I go down there in person. She orders me out of her office and says wait down stairs. Then she calls the cashier and tells them I have to make an appointment to see her! WTF? She never returns any of my calls either. The weird part is....I was the highest earning girl there, was never late, never called in sick. Plus the club is hurting for girls right now. They don't even have enough to cover every shift. Personally I think it's a racial thing. She had been slowly firing all the white girls and not allowing us to play english music. This is in North Hollywood. She even stoped running our ads in English papers, only in spanish papers. I was one of only two white girls left at the place. Now all the girls look like her....thick (I'm being nice) and Latin. Can you say variety people?

Lily Burana wrote in "Strip City" that the O'Farrell Theater in San Francisco would fire girls for the absurdly cruel reason of "overexposure." This was back in the day when it was a top club.

I guess there is cold comfort in the fact that FEW clubs are worth crying over if you can't come back- most of them suck.

PS- SC Managers have no hearts. They check for lack of heart as a hiring prerequisite.

Sounds like they're trying to send a message. Ie; the girl got busted doing a flagrant no-no. If that is their standard practice for every reason they are just cowards on a power trip.

if nothing else, this is an 'admission' that the exotic dancing industry has now declined to the point where clubowners have no fear whatsoever that they can find enough new girls who are sufficiently naive and sufficiently willing to keep club stages full and club customers happy plus go along with whatever bulls#@t clubowners require - such that they can freely fire any dancer no matter how stunning or popular or high earning she is.

Personally I think it's a racial thing. She had been slowly firing all the white girls and not allowing us to play english music. This is in North Hollywood. This is essentially the same argument which has been put forth many times in the past ... although typically it had been made by black dancers about high earnings potential clubs in predominantly 'white' markets. Basically, IMHO this boils down to clubowners thinking that they can maximize total club appeal/earnings to their actual local customer base by filling their club with girls who appeal to a particular customer preference - no more and no less - and no matter how stupid or misguided or politically incorrect.

Correction, I think you meant balls. They have no balls.

The weird thing is that our managers are all really nice, and the head guy is always sweet as pie to me. I guess it just depends on who you are and what you're doing. If they get sick of you, you're out.

One of these girls got fired for not losing weight when suggested to do so, and the other for several no call, no shows. It wasn't like they were completely unprovoked, but still...

I work in North Hollywood too. Even though that is a heavily Latino area, it doesn't necessarily follow that those customers will only want to spend money on Latina dancers. If anything, I've found that managers are usually happy to hire attractive White dancers b/c they're not as prevalent in LA compared to other major cities. Also, when a club goes overboard trying to cater to the Latino demographic (e.g. playing mostly Spanish music), it often has the effect of making the customer base less diverse by turning off customers from other ethnic groups.

It sounds like this manager was putting her personal feelings ahead of good business practices. Just another reason why female managers get a bad rep in this industry.

BTW, what was the name of this club? If their hiring practices are really shady like that, you should put them on blast.

Sad Sally, as long as there are people who think the way they do like in that "other thread" that shit will always happen. I bet you got hired in a snap at another place. They did you a favor, fuck em.

The place I got fired from was Venus Faire. They are owned by Deja Vu and are a peepshow. It sucks because a couple years ago when I worked there under a different manager the place was crawling with white business men and Hollywood executives. I had a regular that would come in once a week and drop $800 on me. He was a hollywood writer. This new manager is running the place into the ground. I work at the Ontario Deja Vu now. It's nice an very clean. Not like it was years ago. They had a face lift. I tried auditioning at Deja Vu North Hollywood but when I went to amature night they told me the manger wasn't having one. Twice! And I was told I had to audition on amature night. After all that Bull Shit I didn't want to bother working there. I might not be a 10 but I know My ass is hot enough for North Hollywood.LOL

Ha Ha! I know what you mean- who would think our fine North Hollywood establishments would have such lofty standards? I've worked in NoHo for a while, and I've noticed the decline in middle-aged White business men among our customer base too. I think part of that is due to changing demographic factors, coupled with economic ones too. However, the clubs certainly don't help matters any when they go overboard marketing to one ethnic group at the expense of a broader clientele (e.g. playing too much Spanish language music, or having the DJ's speak so much Spanish on the mike that it alienates customers from other backgrounds).

I've seen some of the results of this at my own club, and frankly it sucks for some of the dancers. For example, several dancers have left b/c they felt they didn't do well with the remaining customers- like the petite Asian who made most of her money from older White men, or the Black dancer who always made a lot of money from Black customers. When these types of customers stop frequenting a club, it limits the options for the dancers that don't conform to the tastes of the new customer base. Although I think we all know that LA is kind of a weird market for strip clubs, where being too skinny is a liability.

Anyway, re: the amateur night contest: they hardly ever have them, b/c they are too cheap I think. I feel so bad for the girls who show up to participate b/c they always make the poor things wait for 2-3 hours under the guise of starting the contest soon, and then they cancel the contest and let them go up for an "audition". I always want to warn those girls, but I figure they'd just think I was a bitter stripper trying to scare off new prospects. It's actually just better to go there during the day when the GM is working, and get hired directly. I'm glad you like Ontario though- I actually live much closer to there than NoHo, but I've never worked there for some reason.
