Ive known a few deaf or hearing impaired people over the years who do. (Which is like the obvious answrr...)![]()

I can. I always could. I never realized most people couldn't until one day I laughed at the TV when it was mute and people asked me what was so funny.
I also have this uncanny habit (gift?) of being able to understand what someone is saying to me regardless of language they're speaking. Responding, on the other hand, is a whole other story.

i can't do it well, but my hearing kind of sucks so i DO look at peoples lips and it sometimes helps me figure out what they're saying when i start to struggle.... unfortunately i can't do that on the phone![]()

You more or less 'just pick it up'. At least I just noticed one day I was paying intent concentration to lips. Which is bad if your talking to someone that moves their lips while you are talking.

I've always read lips. Some people just don't know how to speak clearly, so it really helps.

i am naturally curious about things that are none of my business... so i made it my business to refine my lip-reading craft.
it got better working in noisy clubs. the mouth only makes a certain amount of spoken shapes, so the conversational basics are pretty easy to pick up.
it's more reading the whole face for me... it's only really hard if people say 'hippopotamus' repeatedly.

Find somebody across a crowed room and mouth the words "I want a fig newton." To someone who is trying to read your lips it looks like you are saying " I wanna f**k you."

my oldest son can.
he's partially deaf and wears hearing aids in both ears. that is actually how we figured out his hearing loss. at 2-3 yrs old, we noticed that every time he would talk, he would look at your lips for the the response. one day, we put our hands in front of our mouths to test it out and he was like "WHAT!? I can't hear you! Move your hand!" lol
The dr's think that is why his speach was as good as it was..because according to the hearing loss he had, he shouldn't have been speaking well at all.
Even after wearing his aids for almost 5 yrs, he still will look at your lips.

I can't but I should learn. I have horrible hearing & my sight ain't all that great either. I've actually been thinking about learning how to read braille so that when I'm older if I get really bad I can still read, cause I love reading.
