    Default Mouthing the words?

Ok I didn't know exactly where to post this because I have 2 different questions. Sorry if I'm posting it in the wrong section!

First question, is it cheesy or stupid to mouth the words when we're on stage dancing?? I know a lot of lyrics to a lot of songs and I have a tendency to wanna do this, but I don't know if it looks dumb or not... ? Does anyone else mouth the lyrics??

Second question, these are all favorite songs of mine, and when I dance around my house listening to them, they make me feel sexy... but I don't know if they're good songs to strip to or not. I'd love for them to be, but I'd just like some opinions :-) Are they possible strip-songs or are they definite no-no's??

    Mouth - Merril Bainbridge
    Black Velvet - Alanna Myles
Let's Get It On - Marvin Gaye
Underneath It All - No Doubt (Gwen Stefani)
Slave 4 You - Britney Spears
    I Touch Myself - Divinyls
    Fallin' - Alicia Keys
Black Magic Woman - Peter Green, Carlos Santana

    Thanks so much!!

I like dancing to alot of those songs, see what your club plays to see if it'll fit in with their theme. As far as mouthing the lyrics, I've seen it be really dumb, and really sexy. The worst is when you don't completely know the words, or when you're off beat. Or every word to every song. All and all, I don't think it's that hot, though I do it occasionally.

Personally I think it's goofy when girls mouth lyrics while dancing, but that's just me

If your at WO request The Cure's "Killing An Arab", it's the owner's favorite, if your on night shift ask for Pennywise "Bro-Hym"...the night guy whose name begins with "D" will love you!
If you're at MC on day shift ask the spikey haired guy for Deftones "Hole in the Earth" or tell him you are a big fan of white label remixes and buy him a jack and coke (BIG brownie points!!) Can't help ya with FG's.

It's so tacky, lame and ugly when a girl mouths the words to a song on stage. I can't even begin to describe how much I hate that!

Haha. Scarlett feels very strongly about this! I dont really pay alot of attention to girls on stage so I havent seen if its tacky. I dont do it when I'm on stage, however, the other day when I was doing a private dance for a guy, we'd been hanging out all night and it was like his 10th dance so I was just kind of playing around but I started singing "Lips of an Angel" and he said it sounded good and to keep singing so I belted out the ENTIRE song to him while I danced. That was probably tacky, haha, but I liked it.

I say if you feel like mouthing the words, do it. Some girls slap their own ass on stage and that looks lame but it doesn't stop them. Do what you feel like doing if you're still gettin tips.

Slapping your ass will get you tipped though. I don't hear anyone going, "Damn what a fine lip syncher she is!"

generally not, and i usually don't lip-synch b/c I think it makes most girls seem a little spaced out and in their own little world, rather than interacting with the audience and being mentally present.

but one night last week when the DJ played me the remix of Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy", it was just one of those nights, and I couldn't resist the urge to lip synch. And a custy at the tiprail started getting all excited: "this is the best song EVER! and you know the words! you like it too? I FUCKING LOVE THIS SONG--does that make me craaaaaay-zaaaay?" And he hands me a $20. And then another $10. Sweet.

Well, since it was rule #1 when I did the dance team thing...it does get on my nerves (in either situation).

I'd much rather have a smile or other facial expressions.

when i worked at scores, there was one girl who always mouthed the words with her songs. so many guys told me they liked it. i've done it like once and felt silly but ive had so many guys say they think it looks good, like the girl is really getting into it.

There are times when it looks okay. It depends on the way the girl does it, and sometimes the lyric itself. I've seen girls mouth along to a really snazzy sexy line while staring a guy in the face, and that is okay. There was one girl I used to work with that would actually SING along to every song onstage. Loudly. It was obnoxious, but funny at the same time. For giggles sometimes we'd cut the volume during certain songs, so she'd just belt out some random lyric acapella. So I guess I am on the fence about it, really. If you're gonna do it, make sure you know the damned words though....PLEASE. Now THAT truly looks horrendous. You're not fooling anyone!

Good question, I've wondered the same thing. I did Slave 4 U at karaoke with my sister one time & people seemed to enjoy it.

It's all in how you do it. Agreed that it shouldn't be every word to every song, and especially agreed that you shouldn't even chance it if you're unsure of the lyrics. That said, I have found myself singing (not just syncing) some parts of certain songs TO the customers, in a really playful way. Sometimes it's with eye contact, or sometimes in their ear. But it's never just staring off into space, and never more than a line or two here and there.

Maybe I'm negative 'cause the only time I saw a girl slip sync was when she was staring at the ceiling, chewing gum going "Shake dat laffy taffy"

Agreed, if a girl was looking in my eyes and said, "When I think about you, I touch myself."

    It would be worlds different.

Dancing to "Bro-Hym?" wow that takes some mental slow-motion-ing.... hmm... i can only picture the mosh pit of high school days

as to lip-synching- IT's NOT KARAOKE. there are a few girls at my club who do it all the time and i think it looks hokey. If I want to say one funny line right up close to a customer or another dancer sitting at the rail, i will mouth ONE LINE for effect directly to a person, but NO MORE. Unless someone is just so OVERly moved by my music selection that they want to mouth the words to me, in which case i'll seductively plant myself in front of him at the rail and we'll croon a bit together and i expect a very large tip for my excellent taste in MU-Zak thankyouverymuch!

ok there's one exception- when there's one/two guys in the club and they're not tipping. First I make sure they don't want to talk/want dances (speak english?), and then HELLZ YEAH i'm gonna play Mars Volta and Squirrel Nut Zippers and ani difranco and gogol bordello and fugazi and lord knows what else and sing along and entertain the hell out of myself because NO ONE CarEs/is watching.

haha no! i will mention it! he definitely has the best taste of any dj there.. i deal mostly w/ Doug, as I am daytime... and for some reason, his monosyllabic butt has a few favorites, and i am not one. oh well. Felix is #1 music reference... when i cannot find something, (before a limewire search) i know where to look.

The ONLY time when mouthing the words to a song works is when you actually know the words, mouth them in time and it is part of the stage show (like you stop and mouth the words to make a point of those particular words). That is the ONLY time I have seen mouthing the words to a song work ...........otherwise shut ya mouth as it does look funny.

IMO lip-syncing works wonderfully for drag queens and terribly for strippers. When strippers do it it reminds me of a really bad show that was on in the 80's,it might have even been called "Lip Sync" where contestands had to dance and mouth the words to the song and then were judged on how "good' their show was. It was TRUELY an awful show. Im not meaning to bag you, I just thought id give my 2 cents (-:
