    Default Shangri-La diet

Has anyone tried it before? I read the book (http://www.amazon.com/Shangri-Diet-S...e=UTF8&s=books) and it seems too good to be true. I've got the ELOO and sugar and I'm going to try it tomorrow, though. Any experiences?

here is a blurb about it
    http://www.diet-blog.com/archives/20...ri_la_diet.php

here is a website where people talk about what exactly they do
    http://maoxian.com/archive/the-shangri-la-diet/

    here is one:
After 1.5 hours from breakfast time I drink a pint of warm water with 1 teaspoon of white sugar dissolved in it, usually within 20min or so, the water has a very faint taste of sugar. I then wait another 1.5 hours till lunch. I drink plenty of water during the 1.5 hour buffers. In the evening I do 1 teaspoon of extra light olive oil, after not having eaten or drunk anything other than water for about 2 hours, and then wait for 1 hour after which I have dinner. The time intervals are simply what works well for me with the rest of my daily schedule.

I noticed a marked decline in my desire and tendency to gorge, even in situations where I used to eat quite a lot like when I am extremely tired or had several drinks. I also noticed that I snack less and do with smaller quantities of food than before. I still succumb to stress eating, although less than before. It’s quite weird.

I wonder if increasing fish/flax oils may do the same thing..and those oils have other health benfits and are good for your skin..

So today is the 6th day on the diet, and I've lost 3 pounds. Seems to be working! And I spend so much less money on food! If I go out to a restaurant, one plate lasts 3 or 4 meals. I eat a handful of food and feel stuffed. I hope it keeps working!

Ok, so I read the blog that you posted..so basically every few hours you're drinking sugar water and olive oil??

I just bought it on amazon. I have a number of kilos I'd like to shake before going back to dancing, and it's hard for me to find vegan weight loss diets.

I just read about this diet in another thread and am really interested in trying it out. I've gained about 3kgs in the past few months (due to a culmination of binge drinking and late-night snacking) and it's been so hard for me to get back to where I was. I've googled it and have gotten as much info as I can, but I still have a couple of questions:

    - What do you have to do to maintain your weight loss? Would you have to live on oil and water forever?

    - If I'm on the diet and have given into some yummy food, what can I do to prevent myself from binging and gorging on the entire packet/plate?

    - Are any vitamin supplements needed while undertaking the diet?

    Thanks! =)

You don't live on oil and water in the first place, you just take it as a supplement. Anyway, for weight maintenance, you just cut back on the oil until you find a level that works for you.

Trust me, you won't want to eat a whole packet of anything. You get full quite quickly on Shangri La.

You may supplement with vitamins if you wish. In fact, it's a good idea if your appetite drops drastically.

I'm still on it. I'm down to about 106lbs (I've been fluctuating between about 105 and 107 lately), from a high of about 150lbs when I started.

That's impressive^^. I know it would inappropriate for my height, but I'd love to be 106 pounds.

How long does it take to curb the cravings? I tried this briefly, and I didn't notice much of a difference, but maybe I was impatient? Sometimes I think my food thinking is too stuck in my head to be affected by proper biological impulse though.

Wow, that's amazing! I have to admit I only did this diet for about a month and a half. I went from 138 to 123, but it seemed like I lost all of that in the first 2 weeks, so I gave up. Now I'm back up to 127 I really need to find something different -- I've been eating like a mouse most of the time lately, and I still can't lose any weight, it's so depressing.. Ugh, I feel so gross. Maybe I'll start this diet again.. but the taste of the oil really started getting to me, so it got harder and harder to take it twice a day. Sigh.. the never ending battle

Isnt taking tonalin kind of the same thing? I tried using tonalin and I lost about fifteen lbs. in 2 mos. I have been working out and restricting calories, but I noticed i am always hungry and have hit a plateau. I am curious about this diet because it claims to wipe out your hunger. But i'm guessing its kind of the same idea as tonalin (consuming oil pills, I mean you obviously don't taste the oil if its in a capsule right??) what do you guys think??

I'm 5'3, so 106 is a very different beast for me than it would be for you.

Happened from day one for me, but apparently it can take a few weeks for some people.

You can take the full dose once a day, it doesn't have to be twice.

Took me a few weeks to get used to the taste, now I barely notice it.

Nope, Shangri-La is a different principle. For a full explanation as to how it works, you should buy the book on amazon. It's long-winded and I'm tired.

I really should get back on it.. You know what's weird? in the beginning, i didn't mind the taste at all.. down the hatch, lol. But after 3 weeks or so it became really gross to me, so I switched from ELOO to Smart Balance oil, but it was still too gross.

I have decided that I'm going to try this (I'm sipping on my sugar water now!!) and I just have a couple of questions:

Essentially this is a calorie restricted diet but you replace a portion of your daily calories with 'flavourless' cals. So I should aim for 1200-1500 cals per day with 150-300 of them being flavourless?? Just making sure I get the point!

I am spacing my meals and doses out evenly over the day to try to avoid sugar spikes. Do the meals have to alternate with the flavourless calories in a specefic order (ie: meal, wait 2 h, sugar, wait 2 h, meal) or can you have 2 meals in a row as long as there is enough time left before and after flavours? (Does that even make sense??)

And last thing, I am scared that about 30 mins after drinking the sugar water i will be starving. Can you mix some flavourless fibre stuff (that new Metamucil for example) with the water to keep you feeling full longer? Or will everything just work itself out?

I am so excited about this but weary at the same time.

^^^ The book should be able to answer all your questions. There's a forum for it, too... http://boards.sethroberts.net/

at fisrt you'll lose weight like with any diet, but then your body gets use to it. you need to add exersice and eating diffrents foods. like say you've started with this diet but keep eating the same foods and you stratr losing weight after 2 weeks or so your body will take the weight lose as something bad and start to motabolise the foods diferently then it was before. by changing what you eat and your exercise plan biweeklly you will lose more weight. then sticking to the same old same old
