    Default Shopping addiction treatment

Ok, I'm addicted to shopping. The feeling of buying things, can't describe it, but it's good!

So, I'm really trying to deal with this, and I do well, for a week, 2 weeks, w/ev, but then I break and binge. With this job, I also have so much free time to waste, usually in the dressing room. I'm doing a play now, so that keeps me busy from 6p-10, then I work or go out. It's the daytime that kills me. I've actually been trying to stay up later so I won't wake up early enough to shop. I've also got it down to 1 cc (I chose the smallest limit). But, I keep breaking down and spending way way way too much. I am so dissapointed in myself when I do this, so why can't I stop?

I think the easiest way will be to keep busier, so what can I do? I don't really want a commitment (like another job), just some ideas on things to take up time, without being in a store.

So, let me know what you all do in your spare time, fav books, shows movies, places to go, things to make.....

You could start a day time workout regimen

Start a project that's not a commitment to anyone but you - such as putting together a nice, organized photo album or scrapbook - this is one thing I can't wait to do when I get some time off.

You could start a hobby that's cheaper than your shopping trips such as looking in your phone book and seeing if you can afford some kind of lessons such as piano lessons, art lessons, guitar lessons....

If not some other things I like to do when I get a moment to myself is:

-Take a long bubble bath and give myself an at home all over make-over
-Read: I like James Frey Books: A Million Little Peices, My friend Leonard, another
memoir: A Peice of Cake, the John Grisham books, the Harry Potter series are more than
addicting if you haven't read them yet, and theres 6 out so it will keep you busy.
-Start an art journal or poetry journal or just writings journal and customize it with
magazine clippings and photos and quotes you love.

TV Shows I can't stop watching in the daytime: Still Standing and Reba on Lifetime, Grounded for Life and Seventh Heaven and Gilmore Girls on Family Channel. And you can always find re-runs of Law and Order

Make yourself a picnic lunch and go sit in a park and eat it whilst you enjoy a book or people-watch.

Write a few letters or e-mails that will make someone's day.

Volunteer doing something else you love - helping at a hospital, or animal shelter, or women's shelter, or church charity organizations.

With the Holidays coming up - use your love of shopping only at childrens stores and volunteer with a toy-drive as one of the people who go buy the toys with the money donated by charities - just steer clear of stores that could have anything tempting for you.

Just a few ideas....do something that will make you feel better about you so you won't be dissapointed in you. Good luck, hope I've helped!

    Bwahahahaha. That's great

If you typically use your credit card, stick it in your freezer. Or anywhere that it's not accessible. Leave it at home, whatever it takes. If you find something you wanna buy, leave it. Think about it for a few days. If you still want it, buy it.

Or, everytime you want something, go home and stick however much money you would have spent on it in a savings account, it'll add up quick, and saving money becomes uber addicting

Pooka, thank you so much for your great ideas! I'm definatly going on a picnic this week. I'll look into the toy drive thing, that would be great I used to love to scrapbook, I should definatly get back into that. I think I'll make cards, since the holidays are coming up. Definatly a much cheaper hobby then bebe or mac!

Emily, I hate the gym so much, but I know I need to get back into it, espically for my birthday cruise at the end of this month I'm sure it would also help with those last 4lbs! I love to swim, and it's getting colder, so I'm going to find a gym with a pool, so I can reward myself after the workout.

Ha, I do want a bf, but I'm settlng for a hookup now:l still nice, but not the same.... I'll try!!! It would certainly give me something else to DO

Sxybrat, I need to keep myself so much more "cash poor". And it's a great idea to say later to myself, instead of no. So if I keep thinking about it, I can go back and get it, but if it doesn't cross my mind, I didn't waste the $$.

yeah, the credit card trick is really hard for stripeprs since we always have cash available. The trick is to put it in the bank before you do something stupid.

If you have a wad of cash and you're going to the mall, go to the BANK first. Then mall (bring like $40). If you don't have enough money for something at the mall, then go back when you do. Thinking about it overnight helps. What works for me is having a mall day. I only go once a week. (heh...."only")

And I hate the gym too, but it's such a productive thing to do, versus shopping, which is so unproductive.

Ever thought of taking a job as a secret shopper? Then you get to indulge in your hobby and get paid for it! Maybe you can offer to go shopping for shut ins or busy families?

    Turn those lemons into lemonade!
