    Default Nerves!

Well, after much thought and debate... Dan and I have decided to just put our things in storage here, and drive back home to RI. We'll take all of our clothes, and whatever small items will fit in the car. When we get settled back home (a month or two maybe), Dan will fly back here, rent a truck, and drive the stuff from storage, home.

I've already got an interview with Cox Communications on the 29th. And, I also have an interview on December 2nd with AAA. The only thing that sucks is that I'm still nursing Hunter. So, I'll have to get him on the bottle and just pump. I'll miss it though. Maybe I can find a way to do both? Like have Dan give him bottles during the day, and I can nurse him when I'm home? It's confusing. Either way, he's still getting the best.. But I'll miss the actual nursing, ya know?

We're selling the Sofa & Loveseat set, Kitchen Table set.. We're giving the computer desks and entertainment center away on Freecycle. That stuff is old anyway, and we're planning to just get new when we get a place. So after that's gone, we really don't have too much to put in storage. Just a bunch of toys, a couple of bedroom sets, washer/dryer, etc..

Hopefully by the time we get the stuff out of storage, Hunter will be willing to sleep in his crib. LOL. He normally sleeps right on me. We either fall asleep while I'm sitting up, or laying down on the couch after his feedings.

I know we're making a good decision in going back home, it's just really stressful. Our family is there, and we figure that if we've gotta struggle, it's best to do it around family, right?

I've already mapped the trip out (and I know where the first Drunken Donuts we'll hit is.. Heh) and we're most likely leaving on the 20th. Eep.

Any words of advice? We've done moves before so we're not stopping at rest stops or anything. We'll be driving as much as we can the first day.. Stopping overnight somewhere at a hotel, and then we'll drive the rest of the way the next day. My biggest concern is nursing on the road. I know he'll sleep a lot in the car, so I figure we'll stop every 3-4 hours or so? Ugh. Has anyone nursed a baby, and had to do a move in a car too?

Oh.. If anyone knows anything about comic books, PM me. Dan has a ton of really good ones (and valuable I'm sure) that he wants me to put on the Garage Sale site here to sell. He wants at least $250 for them, but I know they're worth way more than that. They're all in perfect condition, and have been in plastic sleeves with the whole cardboard deal since he got them years back. So, if you know anything about them, PM me and I'll send you the list. Maybe you all can give me a ballpark figure. He was going to sell his baseball cards, but I want him to hold those for when Hunter grows up.

I've moved a lot in my life and it's always been stressful. I don't have too much advice to give, just try not too feed into the exsisting stress creating more.

I did do a move while 7 months pregnant AND nursing. Just try to make sure you drink enough and get as much rest as can be expected.

Hang in there and good luck with the actual move.

    Good for you rhia!

I can help with the comics, but Imma tell you, right now you wont get anything for them. If he has any old Ghost Rider appearances get them to a comic store. However it's a dead market right now. But you're welcome to ask!

Yup, staying hydrated is no joke! You'd be surprised how fast stress plus travel can have you spent! Rest up, take pictures of EVERYTHING before you go and have a last hurrah in your old home.

Best wishes in re-joining us east coasters. I know this will be a beautiful transition! And a white winter!! Assuming you like snow too.

    Thanks, Everyone.

Optimist.. Actually, we hate snow.. LOL.. But, We lived in Rhode Island basically all of our lives, so we put up with it. It's home.

Mast.. I'll send you the list. He priced them a couple of years ago, but who knows where the values stand now. It's not really necessary that we sell them. He's just not wanting to put them in storage.

Sirona.. 7 Months pregnant AND nursing? Holy Hades, Woman... How did you do that?

Deni.. Thanks.. We're happy to be going home. We've missed the family so much.

It's funny.. You don't miss home until you finally get away from it. I never imagined that I'd miss Rhode Island though--as much as I was dying to leave it.

My Best Friend is really bummed that we're leaving, but he understands. He's about the only thing we'll miss about this damn place, though.

    HOLY SHIT!

I just sent Dan to Uhaul to get some moving boxes so I could pack up everything we wouldn't be taking with us (and would go into storage here)....

    Well...

He called me from the Uhaul place...

It seems that the Northeast is having a shortage of trucks..

    So...

They offered us a truck rental for the price of...

    Wait for it...

    Still with me?...

    $189.00!

That's ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY-NINE DOLLARS!

The car carrier is extra, of course.. BUT..

    DAMN!

Dan didn't pass that up, and reserved the truck right there.

Only catch is that we'll be driving a BIG honking truck up there. A 26-Footer.

    But Woohoo!

That means, no having to store our things here and then wait until we got the money up to send Dan back to drive the stuff home.

I'm freaking excited! It's amazing how this fell right into our laps!

If any of you are making a move to the Northeast, GO TO UHAUL! Don't reserve the truck online---go into a location near you! Chances are, you'll get the same deal.

With children I have found that the best time to do long distance traveling is at night while they sleep. If the baby is on a feeding schedule maybe you could pump in the car right before time, then feed him with a bottle. (Didn't you say something about doing both?) I did that with all the kids while traveling from Ohio to Tennessee or vise versa.

Congradulations on the deal! We got something like that when we moved here. It wasn't that cheap, but we did get a prepaid gas card for the truck.

Sounds like it was meant to be Rhi. Agreed on keeping yourself hydrated and fed. And stop as needed. It's better to take an extra day and be more relaxed, than get there really fast but torn up. I think it will be tough to make it in only 2 days in that bigass truck!!!

Good luck babe. We're moving back to AZ this week too.

We made a move from PA to FL when the twins were only4 months old, and Wendy breastfeed both of them. It just required extra time to stop in parking lots or whatever. I used that time to sneak a smoke, or romp with the older two kidlets, or just stretch my legs. Staying hydrated is key, as mentioned. I also second the driving at night suggestion, but I prefer to drive at night anyway. No traffic, etc. You should also check that you're all going to fit into the cab of that truck...theyre not as big as they look, and I'm assuming you'll have two car seats. Congrats on the sweet deal though, hope it all goes smoothly. If you seriously have questions about the nursing thing, feel free to PM me and I'll have the wife give you some tips. You could also contact the Le Leche League for some info.

    Thanks, Everyone!

Chris, we should all fit comfortably. Dan checked out the cab. It's a good thing I lost the baby weight. Whew. LOL

If I have any questions about the nursing on the road, I'll PM you. I'd rather do that than contact La Leche. They are too damn pushy. I actually threw them out of my Hospital room when I had Delia. One of the psychos GRABBED MY BOOB and squeezed it! She almost got her face punched in. And when I had Hunter, they were not allowed in my room.

About the driving at night---We do best driving during the day. While I'm nocturnal, Dan is not. Delia did great on the way down here, so we're hoping we'll have the same luck with both of them this time. We're going to be stopping overnight though, whenever Dan gets tired of driving. Then, we'll drive the rest of the way the next day. He'll be doing all of the driving, because I can't drive a big truck---much less one that will be towing a car carrier behind it. That'd just be a disaster waiting to happen.

We'll be home right on Thanksgiving! The In-Laws are excited! Delia is "Grampy's Girl", and they haven't even met Hunter yet. It's going to rock! Woo!

We'll be packing our cooler full of drinks and snacks for in-between meals the road, so I'll definitely keep hydrated.

I'm still a little nervous about the trip, but I feel SO much better knowing that we won't have to leave our stuff behind in storage here.

You may want to figure out about how far you want to go the first day. When I moved from MA to IL, I planned exactly where I was going to stop and booked a room. That way, I didn't have to worry about finding a place to stop, or all of the hotels begin booked. Especially if you're driving next week, with the holiday, a number of hotels that normally wouldn't be even close to capacity will be booked.

See if you can pick up a GPS traveling system (like Magellan) it's worth the money. Or, print out directions & alternate routes...in case of detour, bad weather or getting lost.
Remember to get a hotel room on the first floor...some places don't have elevators....some places you might want to be able to park right in front of your room.
Take a blanket for naps, flashlight and all the good snacks. Try to enjoy the trip, it's a big adventure for kids & you're going back to something you miss, versus going somewhere unknown. Good luck!

    4 Days until the move!

We found out that we can't stay with the In-Laws for a long period of time because their Apartment Building doesn't allow small children anymore. So, I thought "Great, now we're fucked".

Then, I had the idea to post an ad on Craigslist, explaining our situation and trying our luck there:

We are a Family of 4 (Married Couple: Early 30s, Daughter: 3 Years Old, Son: 2+ Months Old), moving back to Rhode Island just in time for the Holidays after living in TN for almost 2 years. Before the move, we were lifelong residents of RI. My Husband lost his job about 3 weeks ago.

We got a really good deal with Uhaul for a truck and tow carrier for the car. It turns out that they have a shortage of trucks in the Northeast, and gave us a rental truck and car carrier rental for $340. That, combined with gas, lodging, and meals on the road will pretty much use up our finances for the time being. We can stay with family for maybe up to a week (The place they live does not really allow children), but we'll really need our own place, most likely for a December 1st move-in.

I have 4 Job Interviews lined up for when we get back into the state. I'll surely take one of the offers and get to work ASAP. My Husband also has a pretty-much guaranteed job lined up.

We are looking for a 2 (Large Bedrooms) or 3 Bedroom Apartment Rental, with a landlord that will work with us on the first month's rent and deposit. I may be able to come up with half a month's rent for move-in, and then pay the rest soon after. We can also pay extra each month in addition to the rent to pay the deposit, if one is required. My word is good, I never break a deal.

Utilities are a big plus, at least heat and hot water included in the rent would help us out so much.

We need the Rental to be in a safe area, and as quiet as possible. We are a very quiet, clean, responsible, and honest family who enjoy peaceful areas.

The areas we've always lived in are:
Warwick, West Warwick, East Greenwich, North Kingstown, West Greenwich, Coventry, and Pawtucket.
If you have anything available in our price range in these areas, we'd love it!

The Providence area is a possiblity, but the apartment must be free of bugs (we've had quite enough of them while living in TN), in a good clean area of Providence, and free of lead-based paint. Our children's safety and comfort is the most important thing to us. And, we don't want Roaches living with us, because they refuse to pay rent (We've asked them).

We're looking for monthly rent of $800, but we can afford more than that if most /all utilities are included.

If anyone can help us out, we would be forever grateful. PLEASE help. Thanks so much in advance.
Within 10 minutes, I had 3 emails! One was from a lady who offered us an apartment for $700, only it's a 1-bedroom. So, that's out.

The second email I received was from a guy in Providence. Another 1 bedroom for $650. Good price, but not enough room of course.

The third email was from a guy offering me an apartment in Pawtucket (Oak Hill area, which is VERY nice). Email had his number, said he'd work with us about our finances. Two bedrooms, good size apartment, nice and clean. It's all electric, no utilities are included. $900.

So I gave him a call shortly after I read the email last night. The guy is VERY cool. He said that the bedrooms are good size, shouldn't be a problem to fit both kids and their things in the larger one. It's first-floor with new appliances. Only thing that kind of sucks is that there is no tub, only a shower. We can work with that, though. He only asks that we have half the rent to move in ($450). He's showing us the apartment on THANKSGIVING! He kept saying "You can call me on Thanksgiving, and I'll show it to you then." I got curious, so I asked him if he was having company over or something for dinner. He said he was having his In-Laws over. Hahaha. So, that's why he'll need a reason to get away. So we'll probably view the apartment sometime in the morning. He said if we like it, we can move in the next day. He also told me that the rent he normally charges for that apartment, and the two above it, is $1200. So, he's giving it to us for $900. He said "Everyone deserves a break." Freaking awesome.

He said my comment about the roaches had him cracking up.. Heh

I don't know where this streak of luck is coming from, but I sure hope it continues, at least until we get settled into the place. Whew.

Good luck with your move. Now I'm gonna go watch hallmark commercials eat some chocolate and sniffle lol.

What a wonderful holiday story! You really should write this up and submit it to a woman's magazine or something. It's very inspirational.

Good luck on your move and best wishes to you and your family Rhia. You deserve all these breaks and more.

Well, for kids a little older it's good to have a big bag of cheetos so they can spend the first 12 to 15 hours of the drive turning them into a 4 inch pile of cheeto dust on the floor of the vehicle.

Other than that drive safe. No idea on the nursing thing.

Guess I won't see you when I get around to my first annual pilgramage to Graceland.

What's in Rhode Island? Oh wait, it's not big enough for anything.
"He will come in one of the pre-chosen forms. During the rectification of the Vuldrini, the traveler came as a large and moving Torg! Then, during the third reconciliation of the last of the McKetrick supplicants, they chose a new form for him: that of a giant Slor! Many Shuvs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Slor that day, I can tell you!"
