Default Do you get territorial about certain songs?

I know some girls have "their" songs and sets that they dance to everyday.
I know I do, and today some girl danced to one of my songs.
I know it's not MY song, but it upset me because the DJ knows I ALWAYS dance to it.
Anyway...do you have songs that you don't want anyone else dancing to?

I definitely get annoyed when a girl dances to a song I always dance to on the regular. I know that nobody owns anything but if you can hear a song and know who's on stage... that is "hers"!! Out of respect, I would never dance to it.

We have 2-5 girls up at any given time, so no song belongs to any one girl. I do hate it when I'm there and the dj plays something I love for someone else, but it's more of a "Why don't you play that when I'm up there?" kind of thing.

Since the majority of what I dance to is original in the club I am in, yes. I totally do. Its very rare that I choose music that anyone else in the club dances to. And this is typical for most clubs I have worked at.

    YES. Yes I do.

Fortunately, our DJ's are good about that sort of thing.

^^I hate when girls get ultra-possessive about new songs that JUST came out. Like when this girl at work got all huffy cause the DJ played the new Fergie song for someone else....

Okay, it's only been out a freakin' WEEK, but yet it's "your" song? Okay....

It's different if you've really gone out of your way to be original, though.

I usually dance to techno that most girls have no idea who the artist or remixer is. I bring in my own CDs so yes, I would get territorial if someone started playing music off my own CDs.
Never met a DJ who would pimp my music out to someone else.

However, I have been told before by a DJ that "so and so" loves my music and wanted me to pick some out for her. Then I'm more than happy to pick out a set for her. In fact, I'm willing to let one of my songs become her somgs, just so I can have the thrill of doing a LD to a song I like instead of just stage.

The DJ at the club that I used to work at would always play better songs for the highepying girls to make them look better and give you the shitty ones. And then, when they play a song you can really work with the expect a tip.

i'm kinda of the belief that unless you can show me a signed contract from the artist and record company expressing that you have exclusive rights to be the only stripper in that club to dance to that song, then i'll dance to whatever i damn well feel like. obviously im not gonna go and rip someone's entire set, but if there's a new, popular song that i like that someone has claimed as "their" song, it's not gonna stop me dancing to it.

there's enough songs out there, it shouldn't be a problem.

I get territorial because I'm VERY different, but I KNOW I have no right to get angry because it's not MY music.

But I always play Big Bad Voodoo Daddy - ALWAYS. It's always one of my songs (I do 5-6) or more.

If someone else played it, I'd be a little upset, but I'd understand I have no right.

^^ exactly. I get territorial b/c my music is different than anyone else's. I just had a bouncer tonight comment as I was walking toward the stage, "I can always tell when you're on stage, just b/c of the music". it's not like i'm "claiming" the hot new song that just came out and that everyone wants to dance to. Plus, a lot of what I dance to, I brought in myself--I spent time looking for stuff that I wanted to dance to, and getting it approved to play in the club.

I get territorial of just one song, and that's because everyone I work with knows that "Black Cat" is my song, end of story haha.... the rest of the set changes up day to day, I have no particulars, like to try some new stuff.... but that song is always mine lol

Ummm no one owns any music....unless you write it and produce it its not yours. I used to get possessive over my music then realised how stupid it is. I always make sure I have enough music that if someone plays a song I love to dance to I have more to choose from. You can always play it later in your shift if you want to dance to it that bad.

I just get upset when I'm on stage and a dancer hears my song and goes running to the DJ saying something like "I like this song, play it for me!"

I have always had the rule that if a girl has and old or unique song that she "specificaly" brought in and i wouldnt have known about it, or had it available without her, then I lock it out when she is there. Other girls can dance to it when she is not. But also the song cant be "common" either, meaning it is current top 100, or a common top 40 or comercial song.

there has only been once or twice i got pissed...I have a 50's set that I have an actual poodle skirt and handkercief..the whole nine yards and i always dance to Minnie the Moocher with it. Well I had about 20 minutes to my set...changed into my outfit, pinned up my hair and all of a sudden I hear my song. Of course i stomp out to see some girl in a camo bikini and fishnets doing the booty clap thing. She just looked silly and of course didnt get the tips she always saw me getting..because duh I put on a SHOW. Its not just the song. I asked the DJ why he did that after i had specifically asked for it(and almost every night) and he started seriously yelling in my face about how nobody owns songs blah blah blah...well ok sure they don't but you are still a fucking prick. Fucker was probably just pissed cause I turned down a date with his big fat ass(which actually took up the whole damn dj booth)Bitches.

Yeah, THAT would steam my panties. I've asked for a song before, prepared for my set, and then the DJ went and played it for someone else. SO not cool. Especially when you have above average prep time for THAT set.

I know that Burlesque stars from "back-in-the-day" were VERY territorial about songs!!!

One dancer explained it like this ....
The song that she loved suited her personality, her body, the way her body moved, and it allowed her to "bump" in the most pleasing and erotic way.

However the person who schedualed the dancers chose what song went to what dancer and it did cause some fights back then.

Guess things really don't change over time.
Be very careful if you make a woman cry, because God counts her tears. The woman came out of a man's rib. Not from his feet to be walked on. Not from his head to be superior, but from the side to be equal. Under the arm to be protected, and next to the heart to be loved."

I'm not really territorial to any music. I try to do more "show" stuff and choose the music accordingly. The girls in my club don't dance to my stuff as I am bored of the mainstream music. Our DJ plays what the girls want, not what he wants, so that nice. But I can totaly understand the whole "if you know a particular girl dances to it, don't use it if she's there". I think thats just out of respect.

As a DJ, I hear about it all the time. And thank god, I have enough music to keep everyone and anyone happy. If a girl brings in her CD, I will NEVER play anything off of it out of respect to that girl, no matter how big the bribe, I mean tip is! I have been very lucky though, a lot of clubs only allow certain types of music, but if I work there, don't know why, I dont get those rules put on me, so I can make ALL the girls happy!

I work at a small club and we all have files. There is this one girl that pays the dj off to play her someone elses song! She will give him like 15 bucks to do! It's pisses me off sooo much. One night i had just gotten off stage and she was two girls after me... In the same rotation she requested the song that i had just danced too and the dj played it!!
