I was just thinking about this the other day (don't ask me why) but I was trying to decide between sight, and hearing....
I'm with you, smell it is.
Hearing...I'm half-deaf already anyway from working in loud clubs for too long!
Si hoc non legere potes tu asinus es

Touch, so long as it means I will no longer feel any kind of pain, although that could be a disadvantage. One of our college profs told our class about a young woman who actually had a rare medical condition where she couldn't feel pain - and due to her problem, usually had quite a few cuts, burns and bruises on various areas of her body.
And while it also might be considered a disadvantage by others re: sex, I'm at a place in my life now where I'd most likely regard it as more of an advantage.![]()

Taste. I'd miss the others more, except maybe smell, but hey, what about carbon monoxide or a fire? Smell is important, and losing taste would probably help my diet (why eat the junk?).
taste. If I lost my sense of taste I probably would only eat if I'm hungry and not be tempted to pig out and wouldn't be tempted to eat crap.

Yeah, i think i'd go with taste. Sight and hearing are the one i would hold on to the most, though i can see smell and touch being necessary for safety reasons like fires.

I was gonna say smell but you made a very good point. I'm voting TasteOriginally Posted by mollyzmoon

Hearing. You can learn sign language to help you communicate...but you cannot do anything to replace any of the other senses. I would prefer not to hear things, but to still be able to feel the touch of my loved ones, taste great food, smell the flowers my daughter brings to me and see the pics she draws.![]()
Taste is outta here
My girl already thinks I'm a disposal since I will eat almost anything, I prolly wouldn't miss it all

If I had to pick something to give up it would be the ability to smell.
Taste.
WOW! I'm fascinated by how many of you would give up taste! A chacun son gout, but there is NO WAY I could ever do that, waistline be damned. I just love food too much. Taste would probably be last on the list of things I'd be willing to lose, in fact.
I'm already a little hearing-impaired, and fear that it will worsen as I age, but that makes it all the more precious to me. I can't imagine not being able to listen to music. And sight! And TOUCH, almost as cherished as taste!
Can't I just lose my fashion sense instead?
"Before I conceived you, I wanted you. Before you were born, I loved you. Before you were here an hour, I would die for you. This is the miracle of life." -- Maureen Hawkins
"I just can't get over how much babies cry. I really had no idea what I was getting into. To tell you the truth, I thought it would be more like getting a cat." -- Anne Lamott
Aren't taste and smell inexorably linked?
As for the question, I don't think I could pick...
^^Yep, so if you lose one, say taste for instance, you just wouldn't be able to differentiate between sweet and salty, but you can still smell your food to tell if it is fresh or not.
I love nice smells, perfume, scented candles, flowers, fresh baked bread. SO there is no way I'm giving that up.
I'm with taste. Eh, I can take it or leave it. Without taste, I can eat whole jalapenos to impress the kids.

Taste! I would eat so much healthier then. I love pizza, ice cream, beer, chips, and everything that is unhealthy way too damn much.![]()
Did you realize that you can "hear" sounds even when you're completely deaf? That's because sound creates sensation in your body...the vibration. All sound is for hearing is vibration...but plug your ears up really good and go sit by a grand piano with your hands on the piano...and by feeling the vibrations, you can still "hear" the music.Originally Posted by RoseWhite

Taste & Smell are tied together pretty much. So, both of them really.
I wouldn't be able to live without hearing the kids, or seeing them. I wouldn't give that up for the world.
