Default What do you guys think?

I know men can't post on the "Ladies Only" section. However, I am curious, what do you men think of that "Don't Date Him Girl" website? I know you have read that thread.

To the mod, sorry for reposting this topic. I just feel that the men should be allowed to give their opinions on the subject matter.

heh, I think it's a great way to deal with you're angry feelings after a breakup. However in theory it's fantastic. But it will be abused and ultimately cost someone more than it should

Let's just hope that men don't start a site like that. Women will be crying foul then.

Hotornot is a looks rating site. As far as Myspace, the accused knows who is writing about them. Hence it is on the accuser's myspace page.

The potential for wrongful character defamation is particularly high. I hope the class action suit goes against them...

Cheating is wrong, but cheating is not a crime and people are allowed to cheat. If someone isn't married or a contract (like a prenup that actually states cheating) anyone can cheat. That is the risk you take of dating. I wonder if someone can post on that site, and claim damages in a divorce proceedings? Aren't they already using that site as a way to fight back against wrong doings against them? Where are the lawyers around here at?

It's just people communicating, it's no different in my mind from telling someone in person that your ex is an undatable asshole.... and what's wrong with that... of course maybe you are actually the asshole... that's for the listener to decide...

besides, they agreed to delete what my ex wrote about me, so I don't have a problem with them....

Ha! this site was on A Current Affair in Australia tonight! Celebrity men in Australia were lashing out saying that it is nothing but a site for jealous ex-girlfriends!

Cant find a link for the show, but I am sure they podcast (or something similar) at the end of the week!

Sorry to see that you seemed to be criticised in that thread, Sassfire, and I was surprised how callous some of the posters were. The site seems ripe for abuse.

I hope that the guys wind up on it really did that kind of stuff and deserve it -- and that decent guys can avoid the kind of woman who would post there.

But unless there are some really good protections in advance of posting, that is just a hope. It looks like innocent guys could really be harmed.

Thanks Casaubon. Being a jerk isn't a crime, beside technically most people are cheating. Unless the person you are dating is actually single you are cheating. If the person you start to date is about to dump their boyfriend/girlfriend for you, you are cheating until they have already broken up completely. That lapse in time, whether it is a day or a week, is still cheating.

So Casaubon, can someone post on that site and claim harm in a divorce at the same time?

I'm no divorce expert, but I don't see anything to stop them. The question would be whether it is advisable. In some cases it might be a good tactic to add pressure on the guy to make a favorable settlement. In other cases it might backfire, with the guy claiming in divorce court that he has been injured by the posting and demanding some concessions in return.

Nasty, nasty stuff. Glad my divorce was years ago.

I guess my thought was that if a person puts forth his woes in the court of public opinion such as in a book or on that site; can they also do it again in court. I can't vent against someone on that site and claim that I feel much better afterwards. In that example I already solved my problem in a public way. I don't think I can 1 month later vent against that same person in a divorce and claim that I didn't get over my hurt feelings, but I already did by venting on that site.

I guess what I am saying is can a person get justice for a wrong in one arena and then seek for justice in another arena for that same wrong?

Thanks, Sassfire. I don't think there is any legal bar to both posting on the website and seeking a divorce. The first is just a public statement, and the other is a legal action. I don't think anyone could contend that making public statements that their spouse is a rat would bar a person from later seeking a divorce in court.

There are some situations in law when you have to choose one type of legal action or another, but this is very far from that situation.
