Post Newbie here on facials...am i on the right track?

Whats up ladies, can you please give me some feedback on my facial situation. Heres the 411:
    1. Went to a haircut/skincare clinic in Sunnyvale today (Ijoyspa)
    2. Went ahead and shelled out $60 for my very first facial.
    3. My skin: oily acne prone (whiteheads/blackheads/some pimples)
The situation: The lady, Joyce started by putting cream on my face (she said its to removed dead skin, exfoliation i assume) Then she put me under the steam thingy (facial sauna is what i think its called) and started using this instrument that she said remove whiteheads/blackheads etc....all i can say is ouch! Then after that, seemed like forever she put this "seawead" mask on my face to close the pores. She got me to sign up for the "vip" package (6 sessions) for $360. She says doing this once a week for 6 weeks should really clear up my skin. Then after the 6 sessions she reccomended "microdermabrasion" to help lessen my scars (red marks, spots). I just wanted to know if you guys think the pricing/procedure is "right"...my skin does feel smoother and my complexion looks a lot better. I feel this is better than going to the dermatologist because they just give you topical creams that never seem to get rid of whiteheads/blackheads or pimples. She said that your better off coming to me because i "deep clean" your skin and remove your whiteheads/blackheads, while the dermatologist just gives you creams that dont work. Is that bs or is that true and am i on the right track?
    Feedback would be appreicated,thanks.
P.S. im 19 and filipino. (have oily acne prone skin)

I'm pretty sure $60/session or per facial is about accurate. I've only had one once, but I bought this whole skin care line and it cost me almost three hundred all together. I get flyers in the mail though for spas and it say $60 for a facial. I've also been to a dermatologist, but they only give you some strong benzoyl peroxide bar called ZapZit or something or Cetaphil. Cetaphil for me is crap. The benzoyl bar worked a little, but it dried out my face. I've been on prescription but once the prescription is done it seems like the acne comes right back. So honestly I think going to get facials is probably a good idea since they are zapping the bacteria in your face, exfoliating it and retightening the pores. This can very expensive though, because this means you will have to go continually to keep your skin maintained this way. I guess all you can do is try. You may want to check out acne.org though. There's alot of imformation for people with acne there. Lots of tips and advice and it's free. As for the microdermabrasion though, I personally probably wouldn't spend the extra money. Alot of people had done that to reduce acne scarring, but microdermabrion only sands the top layer of your skin. You might want to look for something more along the lines of a glycolic peel, or possibly a TCA cross depending on how severe the scarring is. I've also heard that this product called AcneFade scar eraser is pretty effective and it's only $20 at walmart. Keep us updated on the facial's process though.Good Luck!!

Thank you so much for the feedback, and it does cost a pretty penny for the acne/facial treatments. Looks like about $60 ish is the norm for a facial then.

$60 bucks is about right, she probably did a basic European facial, it seems.

While the extraction process hurts, someone that does it well- IMHO - is a lifesaver. My skin looks great after a steam and great extraction (I do mine m'self).

Thats nice how you can do your own facial "properly". Yeah the extraction process was painful...my pain tolerance isnt high. I wanted to ask her how to properly cleanse my face and what what cleanser to use, but there was kinda a language barrier. She seems to know what shes doing but her english isnt that good yet. Kittenkat, can you please just give me the 411 real quick on this.
*What type of cleanser should i use to wash my face? (brand/type)
*What should the temp of the water be? before cleanse and then after?
    * What type of medication should i follow up with? to treat my pimples/whiteheads/blackheads.
I feel like these topical benzol peroxide creams and stuff dont seem to work as good as the "extraction process" because my whiteheads/blackheads get taken out with this process (deep inside the skin) while the benzol peroxide creams just "treat" the surface. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
Thanks and i think im gonna go broke with these facials (spent $300 ish already) but they seem to be the most effective.

Facials are effective. Extractions tend to depend on your pain tolerance- if you can stand *that* type of pain, you can learn to do it yourself. I went to an esthetician for about a year before I built up enough tolerance to do it. I still go once every 4 months or so.

As for pimples, are you on birth control pills or any type of hormonal birth control?
