Hey all,
My friend has been on here awhile and I'm excited to finally get on. First, let me tell you about myself before I get to my questions. I'm 28, have a full-time professional job, and have always been interested in dancing. Last year, I was finally set to go ... I was in great shape, I was out of a bad relationship and feeling confident, and I had more flexibility in my school schedule. My friend and I checked out a few clubs, and I was ready to go. Then I fell while rock climbing and shattered my ankle. It's been a long haul of rehab, but a year later, I'm back on feet and think I'm ready to go -- doctor told me to just throw out all my heels b/c I would never wear them again -- what did he know?
So here is my problem ... obviously, I haven't been able to work out much for the last year. I'm okay with that and know that my body doesn't have to be perfect, but I'm more concerned that I won't have the stamina to be a dancer. I can walk in heels, but only if they are completely strapped on (like boots - which will cover the surgery scars) and I have much better balance with chunky heels. Is that going to be a problem? Do clubs require stilletos? Am I going to get fired if I have to sit down for a little while b/c the bad ankle is going to give out? Also, I have trouble bending all the way down on that leg - the joint just doesn't flex the same anymore. I have practiced in dance clubs and feel like I can adjust my moves and still look sexy -- but a whole night on my good leg might kill it. Any suggestions?
I've definitely lost the confidence I had last year since my "grace" is not the same, so I decided to go out for a local amateur night in December at one of the clubs I've been to just to get out on stage once and see if I can handle it. I went to their amateur night last year to watch as a customer, but don't know any of the behind the scenes stuff that went on (I do know that a real stripper won the contest, and alot of customers were upset about that - but I'm prepared for it to be rigged). Anything else you think I should know or might not realize? I am really a total newbie to this, and I've been reading the threads on here the last couple days, but who knows what I've missed.
Last question ... I am a health-care provider in my professional life and I cannot have long nails at all (most time I keep them cut as short as possible). Will this be a problem?
Thanks all!
