Sad House hunting... this is horrible to me :(

Alight, well my boyfriend and I went today to check out this house.. and we fell in LOVE with it.. 4 bedroom, two bath, fireplace, pool, sauna, hard wood floors, double sinks, seperate showers/tubs.. OMG I LOVE IT

and it's 2,000 a month.. which is super ok with us...

    THE PROBLEM???

We didnt get to talk to the owners, just the reality chick, and since we are renting and not buying they just wanna see that we make the rent and have good credit and all that jazz... you guys know how it works lol... well the owner will pick the best qualified...

hmmm one full time student, one stripper, both under 21???? Im so afraid this is how they are gonna see us......

So my boyfriend is writing a letter and attaching it to our rental applications explaining why we feel we best suit the home and blah blah blah....

I guess Im just nervous and I kinda already feel let down.... I had my boss write a statement out saying I made a certain amount each month but Im so worried they are just kinda skim over our application bc of age, and my job...

Ughhh sorry to go on and on Im just bummed :o(

Well we are going to tell them that we are willing to pay 2,500 a month...

Its weird this house just seems PERFECT for us... just the right size.. but I got that gut instinct as soon as we walked in that something wasn't gonna go right

well don't waste your money yet! I bet if you offer to pay 12 months in advance (or as many as possible at $2000 per month) they'd take you in.

It jsut pains me to hear someone spending $2500 on rent!

I agree with Emily. Offer to pay a few months rent in advance. Not many people will do that and it will be hard for them to refuse that deal. But don't be too quick to offer more per month.

Never offer more money for rent. Ever. You give them more advanced rent.

But, I have to ask that if you guys can afford a $2000/month rent, why are you renting? Why not buy?

^^ Venus is right, don't offer more, just offer advance payments. Most people renting want tenants that don't cause trouble, tear up the house/facilities, and most importantly pay their rent on time. If you can guarantee with advance payments, you should be able to get any place you want.

Also if I could afford that much per month I'd really really consider buying something. Hell buy something just a bit smaller, and put the change into the mortgage and pay it off early. Then you can become a landlord too!

she's in san diego though.....their real estate market is nutso. Their landlord probably pays around $3500/month mortgage on that property they want.

They'd be better off putting that hypotehtical $1500 extra a month in savings and buy a house later on....imo...especially since it's her and a boyfriend, not a husband.

Good luck on landing the house for rent. I agree with the comment of offering to pay several months in advance, but not offering to pay extra each month.

Whichever way you go there, good luck with it and let us know how it goes.

Hey, in Tucson we're paying $3000/month on our mortgage. It's just fucking nuts.

yes, but how much would a property like the one you live in cost to rent?

That's one of the weird things about San Diego (and other really inflated markets like it.)

That rent is MUCH cheaper than mortgaging. So many people bought properties at high prices, never intending to have anyone live in them. The amount they could charge for rent wasn't a factor. They were counting on the flip.

I suppose if your rent is only 1/3 of your average monthly earnings that is okay. But if you are going to be scrambling for rent each month, you won't have any fun money, you will just have your house to sit around in all day and that won't be fun. Good luck though on whatever happens.

I agree, don't make the mistake of telling them you're willing to increase the amount of rent that their asking for. That's foolish. Just tell them that you're able to pay like 3 months in advance or something. Them having that check/cold hard cash in their hand will definatley put you at the top of the list.

I agree don't offer them 2,500 a month for rent if they are only looking for 2,000 a month. I'd offer to pay a few months of rent ahead of time instead.

Good luck and hope you get the house you want.

What about this house? You're not going to offer $2500, right?
