    Default BV again

So I know by now most of you know way too much about my vagina already, but I'm seriously confused.

I took meds for BV a couple of weeks ago. Rephreshed the kitty, the whole nine yards... then on my b-day, I hooked up with a girlfriend of mine and the very next day I noticed I was very dry, and upon closer inspection the BV is definately back.

So my question: is BV contagious? Could she have had it and given it to me? Or could mine have not really been gone and I given it to her? My kitty was in good clean working condition when I hooked up with her.

The thing is, she fingered me really rough and I umm... squirted. A lot. Could this have something to do with it?

Fuck this is embarassing, but I'd really appreciate any wisdom.

Being fingered can definitely trigger BV. How clean were her hands?

It can be infectious but also can be triggered by changes to the ph of your vagina as well as aggressive activity. She could have it and has transmitted it to you. She needs to be checked and treated. All toys involved need to be thoroughly cleaned as well. Hope you feel better soon.

Bv can be transmitted thru sexual intercourse. From male to female. Female to female. If she stick her finger up her than you! OF course it could be possible. Than again you where drinking, your hands was not clean. YOu could have messed up you PH balance.

I've been doing a lot of research about BV lately. Mainly because I was diagnosed with it, and then found out I am pregnant a few days later. I wanted to stop taking the Flagyl because I read it can cause birth defects. Then I hear that if you don't treat BV while you are pregnant, it can cause preterm birth and low birth weight. And so many doctors think that the only way to cure BV is with Flagyl or Clindamyacin. A lot of articles I read said that Clindamyacin is not even effective enough to cure BV during pregnancy.
You can imagine my horror, as well as my urgency in determining a proper treatment method. I am visiting my midwife on Monday for some further advice, but after taking antibiotics for BV twice (well, 1 and a half times) and have the symptoms come back, I am looking for more natural cures (not just because of the baby, but because I have always been opposed to antibiotic treatment).

One thing I can tell you is that BV is NOT an STD!!! It is an imbalance in the flora of your vagina. When the naturally occuring "good", aerobic bacteria are not doing their job, or when the "bad" or anerobic bacteria take over, it creates a shift from acidic to alkaline pH. If you take an antibiotic to 'cure' this problem, you are killing the good bacteria too! And you are not restoring the natural good bacteria that need to exist for a healthy pH. The problem will keep coming back if we don't correct it holistically.

Really try to cut out processed foods from your diet, and add a lot of fresh, organic fruits and veggies. One of the good bacteria in the vagina is Lactobacilli (found in yogurt). I started taking 3 tablets of this a day. I also hear that douching with hydrogen peroxide can help, but I am wary of this as well. I'm searching for natural remedies, because I think the antibiotics are not a real cure.

This may be a really interesting thing to read (as well as all the other posts):

Thank you for the info. I definately followed the directions two weeks ago. I took Metronidazole the last time. I'm sure it had to be the sex coupled with drunken disregard for handwashing (ugh sounds so gross).

I'm just worried because in the past when I got BV it was from soap or latex allergies. I have been very careful because this is a most unpleasant malady. The fact that I've had 2 in one month makes me feel dirty and scared that I'm going to have to deal with it more.

Alexxa, I can't even imagine the distress you must be feeling being pregnant and not having the same options available. I can only say I can marginally feel your pain right now.

BV is not a STD . Yet it can be transfers from partner to partner. Especially if it is a recurring infection.(the bad cases)

Yep it can transfer from one partner to another. Oh and once you get the damn thing its really easy for it to reoccur. Seriously.

Im not too sure why that is but most people that have had bv have it again and not too soon after they were treated.

So told her everything when I went to the clinic today. She said it's not b/c my partner had it, just that my kitty is sensitive and more prone to getting these things.

She did back up the acidiphilus thing so I guess I'm getting on that bandwagon now.

I believe this is because antibiotics don't really get rid of the problem since most women don't know that they have to replenish their "good" vaginal flora in order to be healthy again.
I have been taking 3 tablets of acidophilus each day and have noticed a decrease in my (already fairly minor) symptoms. I'm not 100% sure on how to treat it with total effectiveness, but I think the acidophilus should be a major part in recovery.

Alexxa you are with baby! Congrats sorry I was not paying any attention earlier! But I have not been getting enought sleep with work and school. I dont know if they have the yoga for pregnant women. But I love that when I was pregnant with my baby girl.

Thanks, Leilani - my friend is 6 mos. pregnant and going to yoga. I'm going to start going as well. I used to do it when I was little, and I'm going to pass it down to my baby too.

i wonder if girls prone to BV have more sensitivities toward latex (im allergic).

also, what kind of soap did you learn caused BV for you? thanks. im just trying to figure out what the heck is up with my kitty now that after two go-rounds of rephresh my issues have returned too.

    Love it!

    Ladies, try this out:
I had BV that did not respond to the meds. My gynecologist told me her colleagues had been doing some informal research with a lot of success. One remedy was hydrogen peroxide, and one was tea tree oil.
What I did was acquire a sterile syringe, no needle attached (I work at a hospital) and filled it will 1/2 water, 1/2 hydrogen peroxide. lay back, probably in the tub, insert, and squirt it up there. Do this 2-3 times a day for 3-5 days. The second thing is to use straight tea-tree oil. Put a drop on your finger, rub it around the entrance and get a little up inside as well. I swear, I have had no more BV problems. If I ever start to get a little itchy or feeling not so fresh, I just dab some tea tree oil for a day or do the hydrogen peroxide for a day, maybe two. Clears up for months at a time.

Oh yeah, it stings a bit the first couple times. My gyn said that means it's working. If it's too much, just dilute to 1/3 or 1/4 hydrogen peroxide.
Way cheaper than those meds, too!

Really any kind of harsh soap. Soaps like Coast, Irish Spring, Caress, or perfumed soaps. I use unscented Dove soap for that region, even though I'm not wild about it's weird "unscented" smell.

I'm, thinking latex allergies or chemical sensitivity have a lot to do with it. When your PH is thrown off it's an open invitation for BV or YI.

Oh and my doc did recommend the acidphilous(sp?) pills so I'm hopping on that bandwagon.

As for peroxide or tea tree oil, yikes! But if it works, who cares.

funny, i use dove sensitive which i think is unscented. and there must be something abiotu our ph balances i agree, with latex etc. allergies.

acidophilus works! and my acupuncturist reccomended tea tree oil, so im imrpessed that a western medicine doctor did too!

    Love it!

There is a home remedy using boric acid powder, Planned Parenthood can explain it to you (the one by me had printed flyers explaining how to use it and for how long), and also tell you if it is safe for use during pregnancy. Doesn't make you feel ill like the medicine they give you, either. It's worked great for me!

Ya. It's a non-toxic insecticide. It's also used as a mild antiseptic. You can put it in gel caps and insert vaginally as a yeast treatment.

I was NOT drinking while on the meds. I had BV a couple of weeks before, taken the full course of meds and the kitty was working just fine when I had my little drunken lesbian dalliance.

I've got till Sat. until I can drink once more and further pervert the kitty.
