Uh...I will be at the theaters watching this. *shrugs* I think this film will do surprisingly well at the box office. I say it'll go over 100 million domestic and internationally.
Color me skeptical. The original is fine, but II, III, IV, and V killed it like raid kills bugs... dead. You gotta cut Stallone's leg off and count the rings to see how old he is!Originally Posted by supermaruchi

Actually, i'd call it "Old White-guy movie."Originally Posted by Emily

I'll wait for your review, then. Not saying i won't see it. Word it that it's supposed to stick to the formula of the first one, which is good, trouble is when these ageing action people start with the sagging box office, they go back to the roles that made them big (Look at Ahnold in the tepid Terminator 3, after ten years of box office poison). Thus far the results have not been good. What i want outta Rocky is a drama, not some stars and stripes dog and pony show like IV was, or some "meet the newest gun" that III was, or the total snoozefest V was... DRAMA, about a guy that has heart doing what no-one thought he could do because he has heart. That's the nugget that makes the original so good, even though he loses the fight.Originally Posted by DylanAngel
I just dont think Stallone is capable of that anymore. We'll see. I'd love this to be good. I'm not holding my breath though.

If it's a bit tongue in cheek and makes fun of its own lameness, like the trailer kinda alludes to, I'll rent the DVD. All I can think right now is "CUT ME, MICK...CUT ME~!" (btw, for you non-philly folks. You really need to have a few tasty adult beverages one Sunday afternoon and then sit at the bottom of the steps of the art museum and try to count how many times per hour someone starts humming the Rocky theme and runs up the stairs. It's ridiculous.)
waffles are just pancakes with little squares on them.

I read an article on stallone...man, I feel bad for him. I respect him for doing this film. It's a great story on how he compares his typecast to the world. I believe it was Entertainment or....what's the other popular magazine for movies?
Ditto. And Sly has never done much for me either. Boo.Originally Posted by Emily

I've always loved the Rocky movies. They may not all be as good as the first one, but they are a well known brand. If at the very least it can entertain, then its worth a shot. Which I think it is.
Guy #1: I'd totally hit that.
Guy #2: Dude, I'd hit that so hard whoever could pull me out would become the King of England.

I'll be sure to post a review then. And the reason I fall for these movies time and time again is because of the heart factor...to me, Rocky's heart never wavers...it's solid gold.Originally Posted by Madcap
Talia Shire is not in this one, it says, except for flashbacks...does anyone know if she dies in this one? I'm tearing up already thinking about it.

I've been looking forward to this movie for quite some time having read the script several months ago. I actually think it's going to be quite good. Stallone admitted that Rocky V was a disaster and not at all what he wanted it to be and III and IV were mediocre at best. I thought Rocky II was pretty good though for a sequel and I think this new one will measure up quite well. The basic story (without giving it all away) is that in the gap of time since the last movie Adriane dies from cancer. Stallone actually called Talia on the phone to let her know she wouldn't be in the movie and explained the plot and supposedly she took it well having loved the character so much. So Rocky has since opened a small deli in Philly named "Adrian's" and has photos of her up on the walls everywhere. He's doing okay but not great financially and the bills are stacking up. He sits and talks to customers all day about his boxing stories etc.
So the current heavyweight champ is good but the critics all say he just fights weak boxers so ESPN does a story based on a computer-generated theoretical fight between him and Rocky when he was in his prime and the computer model showed Rocky would win the fight. So it gets everyone thinking what if they did an exhibition match and then everyone starts taking that idea lot more seriously and hence, you have a movie.

I am such a mushy person and things like this tend to affect me badly. Might have to wait for the DVD. People hate when I'm crying too loudly in the theater.

I actually think from a theatrical point of view it's a good idea. Most of the time in sequels you have actors who don't want to get involved and so they have to write them off. Here, it's actually by design so it will make for a better script rather than, "Okay, how do we work around this issue?"

Wow...I was in the camp of "Are you f'ing serious?" about a sixth Rocky movie, considering the fifth one was barely watchable. But this actually looks halfway decent...arrgh! I'll probably end up seeing it while I'm back in the States for Christmas.
