I heard of this. Apparently Armani decided they're not going to use size 0 models anymore. Ha, I said, then what? Size 1?

I'm so glad the fashion world is finally starting to do something about this. Although I disagree that a bmi below 17.5 is an indicator of an eating disorder, because I am at 17.5 and I eat about 6 meals a day, they are well balanced, and I lift weights and do cardio. No eating disorders for me.

It's an indicator, hon. It's not, by itself, a final diagnostic tool.

BMI hasn't been accurate in years. It's being completely reevaluated by fitness and health professionals, given the current state of general health in the Western Hemisphere.

Get a body composition test (caliper test) from someone that knows how to give one and do the corresponding math.

Very sad... Maybe girls who struggle with this ED will hear this and maybe it could help them realize you can die from this disease.. girls that i know who struggle with anorexia ack like its a joke. But that probably wont happen.

i read an article by someone who made a very valid point...

yes the models are thin... but society is getting fatter; obesity is the problem the U.S and Australia face, not the relatively small percentage of pro-ana models.

i saw a 15 yo model at my agency last week who was wearing a floaty dress which normally hides everything, but her hips bones were poking through the pleats. she had bones and ligaments, nothing more. fashion is cyclic, like everything. soon girls with bodies will return. meanwhile, this poor girl's mom has to deal with the after effects of the ultimate fashion victim. sad.

Very sad.Alot of them very skinny models just look so sickly thin that they dont look nice to look at.So I dont get why the clothing people push them girls for that kind of look.It causes them serious health problems and can cause death so what good really comes out of it.

This is just another of the stepping stones to change. So sad, that the price was her life. Someday, the models on runways will be healthy looking. I don't understand why the fashion world can't see a difference in sickly thin to healthy thin.

That is not a valid point. The reason that is not a valid point is that
    a) there is no reason that eating disorders and obesity cannot both be problems
    b) the negative effects of anorexia will be felt long before the negative effects of obesity
    c) obesity is still decried as an immoral state. Anorexia is both subjectively and objectively constructed as a positive, controlled state. Pro ana models are part of constructing what we see as positive, desirable images of bodies; obese people are not.

BMI is a terrible deduction of weight. Weight vs. height means NOTHING. Muscle mass people! BMI assumes women have no muscle. I'm OBESE on the BMI scale.

of course it is a valid point. the psychologies of both conditions is not the point of my post. obesity costs the public health system immeasurably more than anorexia (as my Dr friends will attest).

anorexia and other EDs are serious conditions - at no point did i say it wasn't a 'problem'. i just thought the writer's perspective was novel because she looked at the end result and what's really happening for 'most' people... and what's happening is obesity.

don't discount what is actually happening in the health system for lofty idealism.

Okay. Clearly I'm missing something. The only point I can see from that statement is that we don't really need to worry as much about anorexia and the indirect promotion of it in certain industries because obesity is common. I fail to see how declining to allow the fact that many people are obese to render eating disorders unimportant is "lofty" or "idealistic" let alone some intersection of the two. What other reason is there for juxtaposing anorexia and obesity?

juxtaposing extreme fatness and extreme thinness is no stretch.

nobody rendered anorexia unimportant, the writer merely made an observation that i found interesting. solving world weight problems at either end of the spectrum is none of my beeswax.

if thin models are so influential to societal consciousness then why is the developed western world not following it? because.... they're too busy eating!

Does Tyra cry and wring her hands over these girls as much as she cries over us, the naked? Is purging as disgusting as "all those men"?

I am getting tierd of young women killing themseleves to meet these agency standards. Poor girl could have had a very fulfilling life. The United States and other goverments. They need to have laws and restriction on hiring women who are extremly under weight! Because this weight promblem thing has became too addictive, it is like a drug.

I was watching a segment today on the news about this girl. The woman who was speaking was a former model, and an author of some book I don't remember the name, but she said that a lot of companies put their models on strict diets of no more than 500 calories a day.

Companies whom do this, should have trouble with the law. Because thier requirments can lead to death and a very addictive diease. It's kinda like commiting sucide.
