Default Let the hell begin. Thanksgiving for a crowd and I'm the cook!

Only once a year do I go all out and prepare a huge feast. I only do it on Thankgiving too. Christmas is reserved for me and my hubby.

This year I am expecting around 20 people, maybe a few less. I am going all out just because I love these people and I'm only related to 2 of them by marriage. Here is what we are having.

    Appetizers

    Crab Mouse and Crackers

    Relish tray inluding
    pickles, raw veggies and dip,
    black and green olives

    Deviled Eggs

    Assorted meats and cheese platter

    For the main course

    Maple Roasted Turkey and Gravy
    Cornbread Stuffing
    Old Fashioned Celery Stuffing
    Garlic Mashed Potatos
    Mashed Sweet Potatos
    Glazed Carrots and Turnips
    Green Bean Cassarole
    Dinner Rolls

    For desert

    Double Crust Apple Pie
    Cream Cheese Pumpkin Pie
    Bourbon Chocolate Pecan Pie

Can you tell I used to be a Chef?

Wow...it looks like a really good menu and a lot of work. I always have trouble keeping it all hot at the same time. Are there any tricks for that?

Gemini, your menu looks just divine. And count me in as one who wants the crab mousse recipe!

I get not one but two! TWO Thanksgivings to attend! One on Thursday and one on Saturday, which means I get to bring goodies to both but am not 100% responsible for either. Best of all worlds!

A few of the things I'm bringing: Caramelized sweet potato wedges, corn pudding, pumpkin mousse (I'll see your crab and raise you a punkin') and, the (hopefully) piece de resistance: Working on inventing a Thanksgivingized Yule Log! Think butter pecan and pumpkin instead of straight-up chocolate. We'll see how it turns out . . .

I have to stop reading the menu before I go and majorly pig out on food.

Gemini, your menu sounds wonderfully yummy. I'm not responsible for the main course or dessert at Mom's..the appetizers are my job. This year's array consists of:

Mini spanikopita (spinach and feta cheese in phyllo)
Obligitory Italian anipasto (meat, cheese, olives, etc)
Baked brie en croute with carmelized onions
    3Blend Cheese straws
    Country Pate
Stuffed mushrooms with a port wine reduction
Marinated olives and mozarella ball topiary (take a green foam cone from the craft shop, stick toothpicks in it and spear the olives and cheese to it in a stripey pattern)

And I agree with DJM...I need to stop before I go and make everything right now and start eating it.

You guys make my families 'traditional' dinner look like nothing!! Lets see:

    Stock Standard Roast Turkey
    Apple and cinnamon stuffing
    Turnips
    Peas
    Mashed Potatoes
Cranberries, mashed as well as jellied
At least 1 Pie, probably 2 I'm thinking Sweet Potato and Mincemeat, we've been known to have 8 pies (grrr argh!!) Pumpkin, Pecan, Apple, and some others.
I'm sure there are other vegetables but I forgot. Hell I even forgot thanksgiving last year.

    Candied Yams!

In years past, chocolate fudge, peanut butter fudge, and somethign else...

Oh and stuffed celery and stuffed dates (the good ones, not the crappy ones)

    I'd love some fried olives!!!

Cherryripeboy just look stuff up on www.foodnetwork.com

I do a lot of my recipe research there and I change them around to suit my tastes. Its not that hard to learn to cook!

^^ Actually I'm impressed with your's and DylanAngel's menus. Thanksgiving has always been one day the men are thrown (forcibly) out of the kitchen in my family.

I had always planned to do something else on thanksgiving. Especially along the way of no mashed vegetables! There is always next year, and hopefully I'm beyond operation/objective 7 by then.

LOL!! Brings a smile to my face Gemini_Syn! If op 7 is complete I should be able to set the menu for next year at my place. I'm kind of pissed that I missed last year, but I was in Australia for about 14 years, and we could never manage to get everyone over on a thursday.

Hell right now I'm still struggling for op 2 and 3 to get complete. You know I'm saving that recipe thread.
