    WWW Marrakech

I know i should not judge too soon, but we have been here a day in the old city and we are not impressed.....we have been harrassed, hussled and insulted. One girl grabbed my hand forcefully to try and henna me, we have had people pretend to help us just to steer us off course to shops and then ask for money once we arrive where we dont want to be. Its also hard to find booze to lighten the experience! They are not the friendliest of peoples either. Argh...it is off to the new town for us tommorow, apparently it is alot better there Fingers crossed!

Maybe it was a warning when these young Moroccan guys stole one of my husbands cameras in Barcelona.

All of which are common scams described in Lonely Planet and Rough Guides. What did you read in preparation for your trip?

If you liked being cheated, lied to, harrassed, robbed, insulted, victimised based on race....any of this, then this is the place for you.....
If you love to see animal cruelty then you'll love it there. If you're ok with seeing children strangled and belted you won't have a problem with this place.

I for one, found this place to be digusting. I was horrified by the lack of respect for life that i saw. Never have i seen such waste.

It is a 'den of thieves'. I am so disheartened after being here. Sad.... just so very sad.

Oh, and Yes....i did read the Lonely Planet guide to ¨The Best of Marrakech ¨( I am very well traveled)......if i ever see this author i am going to flatten her lame ass.
Have you been there "smartcookie"? What guides did you read?

(Chuckle) Makes the west look rather civilized even if we have a comedic wanna be yelling out epithets. I wish we could send America hating hippies out there to get a taste of the fine wine America truly is compared to the cesspools out there.

First thing to do is buy a crescent moon necklace for yourself. As a Kafir you are allowed by the culture to be disrespected. If there is any question to if you are a believer they may respect you more. If they ask, say you are curious - then smile and nod as they prattle on.

The place may have gotten uglier for westerners since that book was written. Remember - in these countries Osama Bin Laden is a folk hero to many (like upwards to 40%.) To think Morrocco is actually "western friendly" too.

Make abundant use of your hotel's concierge. They will know more of the honest people out there - and believe me - in that world it is who you know that makes a good vacation.

Head north near Spain where the Europeans are.

    Good Luck!

I wasn't being funny. This place is hell.
Moroccans even believe it to be hell. Heaven comes in the next life. One interpretation of the word Marrakech means 'to leave quickly'. I suggest not even bothering to go at all.
It is THE most overly romantisized place on earth. Blurgh.
