Default Do you know how much you make?

Just curious. It seems that most girls live shift to shift and come in only when rent is due. Of course, they make $500+/night, but at the end of the year, they've earned $20,000-$25,000.

I keep a calendar and write down what I make every night. I like knowing my earning patterns and what I net every week. I also like knowing my overall average, $1,000 and $30 nights included.

I don't really keep track on a nightly basis...but that doesn't mean I live shift to shift. Far from it!

I keep track of what I make every night. I also take money out every night for my quarterly taxes, so at the end of the quarter I'm not stuck trying to figure out how much to send in, and then having to pull that money out of my ass somehow... lol.... I keep track of it all right away. It's also interesting to look at fluctuations in my money. Right now I'm only working weekends, but if I look at what I make on weekends now and what I made on weekends in the summer, it's interesting, and very very sad, to see that right now I'm making only half of what I made in summer..... damn you winter!!!!

When I was dancing, I had a notebook that I would log in all of my earnings/expenses for that day.

But, then, I'm anal about money...and I like to know exactly how much I have and how much I spend.

I keep track every night and put my projected and actual earnings on a spreadsheet every night. I use them to track cash flow of different shifts, times of year/seasons and my annual income (and estimated taxes). The formulas already in the spreadsheet total all my numbers. I also keep track of how much I spend on beauty care, outfits and shoes for work so I can deduct it at the end of the year.

I'm a little anal about my financial planning... it's like a damn hobby for me.

I write it down on the calendar every night and I also give myself a monthly goal, and once I hit that goal I up it by another 500$ so I don't put a super large amount of pressure on myself but it helps me stay motivated

Hmmm I'll be the first to admit that I am not good at keeping track of my expenses. I do have a notebook with how much I make every shift, who I tipped out, paid the club, and cab expenses. but no spreadsheets.

Thats exactly what I do! I also keep all my stripper reciepts in a envelope. If they start to fade. I make a copy of them, so when tax season comes around there wont be any questions. About where my money went to and how much did I make! I also put aside a certain amount of money every three month. To go to my taxes. It helps me so I wont feel like I am giving out to much money, to the goverment. Dancing is my business. With any business you have to keep track of the money. It also help me set goals.

I also do this for my home. It is always good to keep track of where your money goses!

Yeah I just keep track in a notebook because I don't know how to use spreadsheets.... even though everyone tells me they're really easy. But I'm taking a business computer applications class next semester, so maybe I'll learn there! YAY! Welcome to technology Madison... lol....

Yep. I too am anal about tracking my income. I have a spreadsheet with: which club I was at, the date I worked, the weekday that date fell on, time I signed in and time I left, hours worked, and income earned. It's all pretty and color-coded too.

I also have boxes showing the amount I've earned for each month, the average amount I earned per day, average hours worked, and average I made per hour. The "averages" section is really comforting on those $30 days.

I also kept track of this stuff in MS Money. I wrote down all of the info while I was still at work...and then the next morning I would enter it into the computer. That way, I had 2 copies of everything. Hell, I even scanned my receipts into the computer so if they faded, got lost, wet, whatever...I wouldn't be out of the receipt.

I'm obsessive. Every night I write down how much I made, then I split that between "funds" (bank fund, grocery fund, gas fund, savings, etc.) and write down how much went into each.

I -definitely- keep track. People don't understand why. Why?! Because it's gonna look a HELLA lot better to get a home loan when I make 100k a year as apposed to 22k a year that I decided to claim.

I have a little diary that I write in the amounts that I earn and how I earnt it (basically if it is private party work then I write down which shows I did and how much I was paid for each show ......if it is strip club work then I write down the club and how much I took home after any fees were paid).

As far as tax purposes are concerned, whatever goes thru my bank accounts and I declare as "cash on hand" via MYOB.

but if you're claiming that you make $22,000, then why produce records that state that you've been lying? If it's all about buying a house, then do a no doc.

I have a spreadsheet (workbook) with date, where I worked, how much I brought home and any deductible expenses. I keep a running total of income minus expenses on one sheet, and on the next one I pull my numbers into a pie chart, so I can see, graphically, what portion I'm spending on what. On my main sheet I have my year to date running total, as well as each month's running total. My pie charts are done monthly, and one big one for the year to date. I have a file folder for receipts.

I keep similar (albeit a little more elaborate) spreadsheets/files for my website business.

I like the idea mentioned above of tracking the day of the week worked also. I will add a column for that Although that is not necessarily a great indication of what any weekday is "normally" like - we have ballgames, events, conventions, seasons, etc, which affect those days....it will still be interesting information.

In the USA, this sort of thing simply won't fly anymore. The IRS tax return database plus automatic financial data reporting is constantly leading to cross-checks regarding the amount of income that a particular person has reported versus the amount of money that particular person is actually spending / saving / investing (or attempting to spend via a loan / mortgage). Voluntarily going 'on the record' i.e. creating loan applications, student grant applications, social welfare benefit applications etc. where the financial info doesn't jive with financial info reported (or not reported) to the IRS and doesn't jive with automatically reported bank account / investment interest earnings, car titles / loans, mortgage deeds / payments etc. is just asking for future trouble.

What? I was saying I DIDN'T decide to claim 22k a year I was saying it's going to look much better than the 22k a year I decided to claim OTHERWISE (as in, a mock situation... what other girls do)...

I was saying I claim I make the full amount because I want a house someday.... my wording was off.

I'd have thought it would be wise to record these things just so that you can go where the money is. Adam Smith and his invisible hand etc...

If you know that you earn $xx for a shift but over time when you look at an average you find that you earn $xxx as an average in a different club or line of work, it makes sense to step up the more profitable line. If you were doing this, it would make sense to look at the hourly rate too.

It would also give you the chance to test things out. If you say xxx over the course of a friday shift you earn whatever, but if you say something else to customers on a different friday shift, you may earn more or less. By doing this you can figure out your optimum routine. In all business, this is the sweet spot where the real money is made. Testing for optimisation. I presume it is the same here too.
