    Default Australian Thankgiving!

    Heya Queenslanders!

I'm going to be throwing THANKSGIVING! There will be ham, turkey and all the usual American trimmings. Enough to take some home!

    Day: Thursday November 23rd
Time: Dinner served at 4, be there at 2!
Bring: One alcoholic beverage or two non-alcoholic beverages per person UNLESS you know a tradition American dish - bring one of those.
Why: Because I know my Aussie friends haven't had a thanksgiving and wonder what all the hubbub is about. You can feast and dine, get drunk and be merry!

Where: My house! PM me for addy!

Where the hell did you find a turkey? My Aussie Thanksgiving featured a stuffed chicken because I couldn't find a turkey anywhere. Fine by me, I like chicken better anyway.

I had it flash frozen and shipped from NSW...

It cost me $100 for 4 kg. :/

My family usually ordered one from the butcher $AUD5-$AUD6 per kilo. Most we paid was 10AUD/kilo.

I'm sure if we lived out in the boonies, it would have been impossible/expensive.

Funny in Coles and Safeway they have been having a lot of turkey legs/breasts this past year.

Remember, I was in QLD... you were in NSW.

The only few retailers of turkey are in NSW... plus shipping... yeah, it was a pricey bird for me.

LM I'm sure I was in VIC, not NSW LOL. I remember double espressos on Southbank when I was younger. G.D. I miss Australia. They would mostly come from NSW though.

The one great thing about turkey is that it freezes well. You can eat those leftovers for months. Throw it in soup, stir-fry, sandwiches, casseroles... plus it's good for you. So don't sweat the leftovers!

Nope. I still don't have any for the event. D:

It's similar sorta, but not quite. D:

    ...just like everything else.

Hehehe, that reminds me of my mom's attempts to make Japanese food even though all we had in town was a skimpy "International section" in the local supermarket. I could not live without cranberry jelly. It makes a fabulous sandwich spread on leftover sandwiches. I hope you're not so Australian that you eat leftover Thanksgiving sandwiches with Vegemite, hehe.

    My one-smiley reply on Vegemite.

    Perfect leftover sandwich:
    2 slices whole grain bread
    Gravy
    Cranberry jelly
    Salt and pepper to taste
    Roasted garlic cloves
Lotsa dark meat (white meat tastes like dry tofu)

If it's not messy and dripping, it's not good.
