maybe offtopic but more evidence of an omnipresent, omnipotent, omnibenevolent deity I see.
"You have demonic genius" -Naomi Wolf
"I very much resent it when people - maybe with good intentions or from a progressive point of view - keep telling me, 'It's their culture' ... It's like saying the culture of Massachusetts is burning witches." -Azar Nafisi

i think it's probably time australia embraced us some nukes... aside from the odd mini meltdown etc, it's pretty clean and safe...
we need to flog all our coal off to china and the like first... then we'll be good...

i wish everything was cool like it used to be when i was a kid.
I think it all depends on what you choose to focus on.
The last time I checked, no one gets out of life alive.
I haven't seen the movie, but I'm sure a career politician can be considered an expert on the science of global warming and would present a balanced, unbiased view of the situation without any personal gain to be had from such a movie.
Promote yourself and earn more money! This is a business that is owned by strippers for strippers. Let's make that money!
I have to say that though I really do understand your skepticism about the potential for bias in this movie, Paris, I think it is well worth seeing. In fact, I can't encourage it strongly enough!
My only complaint about it would be a slight excess of biographical material on Al Gore, but I think the purpose of that material is to provide some context for how the issue has become a driving passion in his life. This gave me a whole new respect for him, in fact. I believe that it was made with the utmost integrity and the best of intentions.
"Before I conceived you, I wanted you. Before you were born, I loved you. Before you were here an hour, I would die for you. This is the miracle of life." -- Maureen Hawkins
"I just can't get over how much babies cry. I really had no idea what I was getting into. To tell you the truth, I thought it would be more like getting a cat." -- Anne Lamott
Too bad listening to Gore is as exciting as watching paint dry. The science was interesting, though.
I found his depiction of the global environment to be a bit absurd, irresponsible, and, ironically, quite convenient (for his political ends). He talked on an on about oil and suggested that people drive their cars less or turn the lights off to curb pollution, which is pretty ridiculous. The number one cause of pollution and land devasation in the U.S. is the meat and dairy industry. He talks endlessly about reducing our dependence on foreign oil but never once mentions our dependence on domestic and foreign factory farmed meat and dairy products.
Cattle ranching is also a major cause of rainforest destruction in Central and South America due to ranchers slash and burn rainforests to create crazing pastures. The World Rainforest Information Portal estimates that for every quarter pound hamburger made from rainforest cattle, fifty-five square feet of rainforest was cleared—an area equal to the size of a small kitchen.
When it comes to the environment, there's nothing more "convenient" than leaving factory farming out of the discussion.
The movie was discussed on the Members Board also.
