Default "How to win friends and influence people"

Any of you ladies ever read this classic by Dale Carnegie? If you have, what did you think of it? I read it last month and I think every person alive could get something out of reading it. I've kept it's advice in the back of my mind since.

The book has very simple sound principles-

    *People want to feel important!
*Talk about what they want to talk about.
*People want to feel like their buying and not like they're being sold to.
    *Compliment, but not cheap flattery.
    *Don't give orders; make suggestions.
    *Direct criticism causes resentment.

The book has been around for 70 years and for good reason and was the first of it's kind. I wish I coud give a copy of this book to all of you!

I highly recommend giving it another try!!! It was an incredible book that taught me so much about people!! It has helped me not only in my dancing life but also in my OTC life too with everyone from friends, to family to complete strangers. It's taught me ways to get what I want out of people & them wanting to give what I want so both are happy!!! If you don't like reading or don't have time, try getting the CD & listen to it when you're in the car!

That is a fantastic book that I own and have read many times. It was written ages ago but all of his principles apply even today. A highly recommended read!

It's been on my suggested reading list in every different seminar that I teach for years right up there with Think And Grow Rich. It's a brilliant book...one of my favorites!

I've read tons of books similar to this one, meaning they all basically give the same advice as far how to win over people, make friends, start conversations , small talk ect. They are all good. In the self help section of the bookstore you can find many of these types of books. However, I still like to read different ones because sometimes theres some stuff the one book mentions that the other one doesn't ....so i'll give this book a try. Thanks for the recommendation

Ive read it, twice and I still dont feel I remember much of it.

I always try and use people's names when greeting them and speaking with them. I remember that part. The rest, well, like someone said, I got bored because of all the stories.

I have a short attention span and a photographic memory. I need really simple, concise and direct instructions to learn stuff, not reams and reams of words. When I think, I see in my minds eye an image of what Im thinking about.

I love this book too! I haven't finished it yet. About 3/4 of the way through. I bought the book but wasn't getting into it at all. So then I got it downloaded to my ipod and I get to listen to it for 40 min a day while on the subway to and from work.

It's great! And I like hearing the stories. It helps me to remember the principles it teaches.

Few more points from this book:

    - Talk about your own mistakes before criticizing the other person
    - Make the other person feel important - and do it sincerely
    - Show respect for the other person's opinions. Never say, "You're wrong."

    Definitely a good read.

How about, "The Power of Positive Thinking"? I don't know the author, but it's an old book. My one rabbit must've enjoyed it, he heavily gnawed the spine! Btw, I will have to visit this section of SW more often.

Now, you could always read "Leadership Secrets Of Attila The Hun". It struck me as being a cheesy buisness book shouded in pseudo history, but it's short and there's a few things you could get out of it.
"He will come in one of the pre-chosen forms. During the rectification of the Vuldrini, the traveler came as a large and moving Torg! Then, during the third reconciliation of the last of the McKetrick supplicants, they chose a new form for him: that of a giant Slor! Many Shuvs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Slor that day, I can tell you!"
