    Default 007

My wife and I just got back from seeing Casino Royale and I have to say it was the best Bond movie since Thunderball and Goldfinger. It really got back to what Ian Flemming wanted in a Bond character. I thought Pierce was so-so in the role as with Roger Moore and there will never be anyone to top Sean Connery, but Daniel Craig comes in at a VERY close second. The movie was well written and actually had a more intellectual plotline for a change and had a very 50s/60s raw feel to it rather than the metrosexual Bond that Pierce played. This movie get's a huge A++ in my book. A definite must-see, certainly if you're a James Bond fan!

Did they regain the tongue-in-cheek Bond girl names? The believable gadgets?

You mean the "Pussy Galore", "Alotta Fagina" type names?

Many Shuvs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Slor that day, I can tell you!"

No silly names and no gadgets. In a way, I think that's what made the movie so good. It was much the feel of Dr. No which also lacked the typical Bond cliche's. It was a much dryer movie than some of the ones over the last few decades but I actually think that is what made it work so well. As it's being referred to, it's a reboot of the James Bond brand. It's definitely more of what Ian Flemming would have wanted in a James Bond movie.

This is my favorite BOND MOVIE New CASINO ROYALE

I knew this boy would pull it off. So many people didn't think he wasn't right for the role. They even had a hate website for him. Critics and fans weren't happy campers.

After being a fan of his work in LAYER CAKE...than hearing him casted as bond I was a bit shocked...

    BUT

I knew Daniel Craig would bring a different flavor, and in my opinion better.

THIS FILM Is EDGIER, REAL, RAW, and the fuckin lines he said is sooo fuckin smooth and hilarious with poise!

The negatives that I see is it was a bit long(romance) and the ending was weak.

    GOTTA WATCH THIS BOND...it's REAL.

I can't wait to see this. My son, who's 16, is a Bondaholic (he's requested the Bond movie set on DVD for Xmas) and is frothing to see it.

My wife and I saw it last night and I agree completely with DW. I think Daniel Craig is great in the role, and I love the fact that Bond is allowed to get dirty and bleed in this movie. I've always liked Judi Dench as "M", and she is very good in this film as well. The opening chase scene is awesome, and the torture scene is unlike anything you've seen in a Bond movie before! Two thumbs up

Having read several of the Bond books, I am happy to hear this movie apparently has some semblance, at least, to the character Fleming created. In one of the novels Bond gets his genitals flailed rather thoroughly in a torture session, which mercifully ends before permanent damage, but has never been close to being portrayed in films--until now, maybe.

He doesn't talk, of course--where I'd have been spilling the beans instantly, haha.

Connery had the character down, but in the later Connery films he got sucked into the increasing Hollywood distortion of Bond--until the character finally became an absurdity.

After I saw Layer Cake--an excellent movie, BTW--I went out and rented both previous Matthew Vaughn produced movies: Snatch and Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels.. Both were phenomonally good, if more humorous films.

Craig would do well in the role, I can imagine that. I will definitely go see it.

Fleming was with the British Naval Intelligence during World War II. Naval Intelligence would have had far more importance in England at that time than here now in the USA--England's Navy had been by far it's most important military arm for several hundred years.

He ran an outfit which pulled off commando-style infiltration missions, so he had an authentic background which shows up well in the novels, which are infinitely more plausible than the movies.

A mild mysogynist (as is evident in his glorified hero's behavior--Fleming's Bond is the man he would have liked to have been, and actually came pretty close to being), he nonetheless seems to have enjoyed himself and gotten into afair amount of scandalous trouble for it, lol...

EXACTLY...alot of people were skeptical. BUT only if they were able to see his work.

Especially in Layer cake where he plays a very chill character...but his acting will prevail

    and it sure did..indeed.

    Oh, Christ, no...

Not another Sylvester Stallone, please. He finally got old and went away, thankfully.

I love hitting the bag, etc., but could never abide those horrible movies. He should have stuck with the cheesy tame Canadian soft porn he made when he was a draft dodger.

Oops, I mean training to rescue all those forgotten POWs and MIAs, that is...

Well boxing is the one and only sport I can bear to watch at all on TV, and especially for an entire two hour movie--so maybe.

I'm inclined to doubt I'll watch it, but 'never say never...'
