Exclamation Newbie having nightmares. Need help.

    Hi
I've been dancing for a couple of weeks now....Recently I have been having nightmares.
Last night my man (who is very supportive and encouraging about this) was telling me in my dream that he can do whatever he wants with another woman because I am stripping.
The night before, a dancer was being "my friend" in my dream and suddenly started beating the #%&* out of me (and I could FEEL the pain in my sleep).
And in general, I am dreaming about random guys in general trying to make me do things I don't want to do and/or threatening me.
Also, well, this in general, just dreaming about being "at work".

Do you think my subconscious is trying to tell me something? Have you had dreams like this? I am not sleeping very well or enough either.

    Thanks!
    Cherlo

I think it's the brains mechanism for helping you cope with the worst possible scenario in the safest environment (a dream)

i have dreams about terrible work scenerios all the time. of course, i have them no matter what job i have. the stripper ones just tend to be a lot more scary. my advice is to try and sleep better at night. if you sleep well all through the night you'll remember less of your dreams.

Anxiety. You might be having panic attacks in your sleep. It happens to me. If it continues, you should see a doctor, they have the pills (that go poppitypop) for that.

Basically, when you sleep and have a panic attack, your fear is projected into the dream, 'causing even more panic (while a real panic attack is just overall fear).

So yeah... um... drink some tea with milk and honey before bed (not chamomile) and relax first... O.o

oh god, me too! it's the worst to wake up that way too...

i have dreamt about work too cherlo, and the best thing i can tell you is to reckon with that stuff while you are awake and not block it out. it may be your subconscious telling you that you have to deal with what you are doing and not block it out. maybe you need to talk about it with someone, i actually see a psychologist and honestly sometimes it really helps with my issues with work. (but i started to see the therapist when my sister died, not bec of stripping)

    Love it!

sounds like you feel guilty about dancing. what made you get into it? do u have any other options for work for now until you figure out how you feel about it?

If you know for sure that you are comfortable with what you are doing then it could just be the stress of something new. Getting used to the way things work, the customers bugging you, the affect on relationships, etc. I had nightmares before I started because I was nervous and after I started I had a few just replaying the night because it was so new and I was thinking about it all and replaying it all in my head on the drive home, etc, that I was expressing the stress and worry of something unfamiliar in my sleep. After I got used to it they went away.

Any time I start any new job, stripping or otherwise, I dream about it for at least a few weeks. Your brain is adjusting to new situations, new settings and people... If those dreams don't calm down after a month or so, I'd start re-evaluating the situation. Otherwise I think it's perfectly natural. You are just sub-consiously processing the new information.

you can essentially split your brain into 3 parts:

The conscious mind is what we think with when we deal with new problems. It can handle one probem at a time.

The preconscious mind is where we deal with things that have become automatic through practice. Driving is a good example. The preconscious mind can handle multiple ideas at any one time - providing we don't think too much about what we're doing.

The sub-conscious mind does the thinking we're not really aware of. If you've had a bolt out of the blue answer to a problem, it's probably the sub-conscious mind that's supplied it.

We have to be awake to use our conscious and pre-conscious brains. The subconscious continues to work when we're asleep.

Because our subconscious brain continues to work when we're asleep, it tends to keep working on what we were thinking about just before we fell asleep. If you fall asleep worrying about your man, or idiot customers or whatever, that's what your subconscious will keep working on. (Hence your dreams).

If you can fall asleep on a positive thought (this week, I'm going to earn enough to buy that new dining room table I've wanted for some time) then that's what your subconscious will work on instead.

Try to fall asleep with good thoughts, not bad ones, and you'll get a more relaxing night's sleep.

    Phil.

no matter what job i've had i get nightmares from it. when i was a teenager i was a cashier at my local grocery store..i was having a bad dream and then i woke up one morning trying to scan my alarm clock over the night stand, lol. i also talk in my sleep when i get stressed, i talk out my plan for the day and about whats bothering me...like the pillow was my psychiatrist.

definantly try relaxing before bed...the tea idea is great, maybe even meditate a little. when i was younger due to terrible nightmares i taught myself to control the dreams, mainly pay attention, when you know you are dreaming try to think of something pleasant, you can change you dreams after some practice.
