Anybody here crack their knuckles? (fingers mainly) I noticed my knuckles look "bulkier". You guys know if cracking knuckles does this?
Just curious.
Thanks

ive always heard cracking knuckles makes them bulky and I believe it.. ive been doing it since the 5th gradeMy knuckles arent like a mans..but I have very long dainty fingers but they are bigger than they should be I think.. Im paying for it now.. I have 3 nice rings (one a wedding band) and I had to get a size larger just so I could squeeze it on.. now they just flip around my lower finger as that area is loose
may be worth stopping now if you can

I used to crack my knuckles alot when I was younger too. I have short fat hands/fingers. I don't crack my knuckles now though. But I do think it makes them get fatter

How do you quit? I've tried but I can't seem to stop!! It's like I'm addicted to it because if I don't crack them, they start to feel weird and stiff. Just did it now!!! Felt good!!
Cracking your knuckles does no damage what so ever and doesn't make them bulkier or knottier, etc.
Why they "crack" or "pop":
Joints have what's known as synovial fluid between them. It acts as a sort of lubricant. When you crack or pop your knuckles you are simply stretching the tissue vessle that surrounds the joint causing a decrease in pressure in the synovial fluid causing gasses within the fluid to form small bubbles until the decrease causes them to "pop" causing the distinctive sound.
Basically you breaking a sort of vaccum between the joints caused by the lubricating fluid.
There's only been one really indepth study into whether or not it's damaging to the joint (Raymond Brodeur, published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics) and it did show that it doesn't cause arthritis which would cause bigger knuckles.
There was some evidence that habitual knuckle crackers could eventually cause damage to the soft tissue within the joint but I think that's in cases with folk who do it ALL the time and I don't believe it was conclusive.
So anyhow, in short, it shouldn't cause any long standing damage.

^ Yup what sirona said.
Cracking your knuckles is harmless. It is a *myth* that it can cause arthritis and bulkness.
I crack my knuckles/finger's all the time and have beautiful hands lol.

I think there is some kind or chemical release in your brain when you crack, b/c it does feel good. Like biting nails......
i crack everything...my toes, my knees, my wrists...my back...does anyone do that or am i weird?![]()
^^ Yep. Toes, ankles, back, neck, knuckles (including the ones right above the knuckle that connects your fingers to your hand). Yikes. I wish I could stop!
i was always told it gives u arthritis too......my knees crack everytime i bend down, tho it makes me cringe when ppl crack their knuckles lol

I crack my wrists, ankles, back, neck, fingers...guess that's about it. I haven't noticed a difference. But I am pretty bony and thin in my fingers and arms and ankles so maybe I just can't tell.
