I'm considering taking my daughter to get this since the FDA has approved it. I was wondering if any of you here who have daughters between the ages of 9 and 13 are considering this also? And, what are your thoughts regarding it?

If I had a daughter I would consider doing it. I know alot of people say that it is encouraging sex, but I disagree with that. If they are going to do it they are going to do it, I dont think this will make a difference. I would.
The way I view this, is that my child is going to have to make her own choices, but if I can make one that will eventually cut her risk of contracting something, I might as well do the right thing and get her vaccinated. My concerns are side effects, especially long term ones, I had thought about waiting for a year or two to see if there is anything that pops up, I'm a bit leary with new things like this.
I have also had the sex talk with my daughter. I've told her that I had sex at a young age before marriage, I told her that I wish I hadn't, but that it didnt' make me a bad person, but that I was very careless.. I told her that if she ever felt that she was ready for sex, she should come to me and we will make sure she is covered. I also told her that I may not like her choices, but I would hope that she would come to me to talk about it first before she does anything. Of course she says she will never ever do that because it just sounds "gross" but the seed is planted for future reference to come home to me and tell me before hand.

If I had a daughter, I would take her to get it. I read that it is only effective if given at that age. I dont think it encourages sex, but someday, she is going to have sex, and at least then, she will be better protected. HPV causes cervical cancer, if you can vaccinate your child against any type of cancer....all the better.

I do not know about that vaccine. My daughter has away to go before she gets it. I think they need to do more studies on it before they give it to children. What if there is something in it that affect the kids in some way! It is too new to me.

I don't think it would encourage sex really, but i am also wary of this vaccine.
It's been through trials and approvals pretty quick considering thay are still teating the herpes vaccine they had in the works long before.
Also, I find it funny that all these commercials about the HPV/cancer link came out like just this summer. Didn't they know this for years?
They would like to sell their vaccine.
I know many people who have had warts and have regular paps. Teach her about condoms for now I think.
My personal opinion is that they have many thories about cervical cancer. Theories, Also, I have seen ads for BC touting how it lowers cancer risk. Uh yeah.
I would like both of my daughters to get it. It's the smart thing to do.
I agree that it is WAY too new to trust it. I don't put much stock in anything the FDA says/approves. They approved mercury in vaccines for a couple of decades before...they usually just approve whatever without any real trials.
Honestly...I wouldn't do it for my daughter.

Please do it.

Just to put some real life clinical trials in the mix
EVERYONE I KNOW HAS HAD WARTS AT ONE TIME OR ANOTHER - that may seem like a lot but it is the most common std out there
NONE OF THE WART GIRLS, myself included knock on wood, HAVE HAD IRREGULAR PAPS
the two women I do know who have had irregular paps - 1) were both 20 at the time and had had only one/few sexual partners and DID NOT HAVE ANY SIGNS INCLUDING DECADES LATER OF WARTS
I, for one, do not believe scientists' THEORIES about what causes cervical cancer. They are no more valid than our theories.
Maybe deoderant tampons really cause it - they could never do a controlled enough study to really figure it out - there is just a higher risk they BELIEVE. They cannot prove what causes it.
Things I think could cause it but would never get funding for a study for because of BUSINESS INTERESTS which run science and healthcare - tampons (that shit has bleach and all kinds of nasty stuff),
birth control (they always claim higher # of partners is a cause - could women who fuck more be on BC too, I don't know)
some caustic spermicdes - felt those like a bitch
Like Venus said, the FDA has approved devilish stuff that causes birth defects, strokes, a many things we won't know about for years. The approval process is a joke run by companies who have big bucks to make off of your fears.
Like I said, everyone I've known with an irregular pap does not fit their slut, multiple partner, uncircumcised penis fucking, wart laden profile
These chicks were nearly virgins with nearly virginal dudes.
I won't get this vaccine. They were pushing the hep b vaccine really hard for a while and you know what I have never heard of anyone having it enough for me to worry, including long before the vaccine.
They are saying it needs to be done before sexual activity. That gets parents running fast, cause they just never know. And the money rolls in - at least if you decide to do it research their stock exchange numbers right before thay announced it and in 6 months. It's going to blow up and they love you for it.
Hi, i m 20 and my doctor made me that HPV test - PAP test as well which was high positive. i changed sexual partners quite a lot before but never knew that i can get it. i m living in slovakia and we dont make any vaccine against this. if the second test which i ve already passed ll be bad result, i ll go for some operation and for regular checks cause i have big probability to get that virus HPV which causes cancer. condom is not all protection and only one sex. partner - a man, who transmittes the virus can get u that. so i dont know what s better. however, my mums is died for cancer of maternity. if u have possibility to make vaccine make it! can i ask where r u from?
I haven't heard anything about the herpes vaccine. is it just a preventative measure or does it "cure" herpes out of one's system?Originally Posted by kittygirl

My daughter will be 11 in a few months and I am seriously considering the vaccine for her. I've not researched it yet though nor have I spoken to the dr. about it. I"ll probably bring it up at her next appointment.

The herpes vaccine has been in human trials for maybe five years I think. They have been researching it over ten years.
It's just preventative.
First, it is impossible to tell if any woman is infected with the HPV virus. The only way of knowing is the presence of warts. So, how have they proven the connection exactly? They have come up with a theory.
Secondly, I have read studies that irregular cervical cell growth and fibroids have been reverrsed by simply cutting out dairy. No proof just another theory. But the wart industry is less powerful than the dairy lobby.
Lastly, my personal distrust of the BC pill makes me wonder about cervical and breast cancer. If you trick your body into thinking its pregnant for ten years, I am sure it is constantly prepping your cervix and breasts for the child's birth. If the cervix is in any way constantly being stimulated to prepare for this and it never happens it could be problem. Same with mammary glands.
1 in 8 women will get breast cancer now. That's an enormous increase in the same few decades the pill has been available. The women in my family have not taken the pill. Although my grandma did get breast cancer it was in her late 70's (and she worked with dry cleaning solvents in the 1940's so I blame that).
Pharmie copanies love the money they make from the pill which is why they create so many versions. Mo money and mo money and now the vaccine will make even more money.
Lastly, why isn't it being recommended for boys too? The vaccine does not stop pussy cancer, just the virus, so what about boys??

GET IT!
I was raped as a child and it's really hard when your doctor tells you that you have cancer at 15 because of it.
It will NOT promote promiscuity... it will save them if they're ever raped.

Valid, but didn't the commercial say "some strains"? I mean what do we really know about this vaccine, and its possible negative effects down the road. What if it causes something else?Originally Posted by lilithmorrigan

The commercial isn't in this country, so I'm sorry if I have no idea what you're referring to..
However, the inventor of the vaccine was Australian of the Year and goes to the Uni down the road... and I know it is -most- (not some) strains and it's the most catchable and cancer-causing kinds.
Also, everything has a negative side effect. You can die from 1 tylenol.

The vaccine dose not treat cervical cancer. It dose not help with certain strains of HPV. But it has the strain of HPV that cause cervical cancer. Why give it to children when that might not be the strain they contacted when they grow up and have sex. Why give it to them so young when thier body is developing! They are not using my child as a experiment. I seen that commerical and I have to say I dont trust now even more! They are really trying hard to make it seem safe.

I'm with Lilith all the way. I know a girl who was raped as a kid, and nothing was suspected until she complained of pain. Lo and behold, the doctor discovered the worse infestation of genital warts he had ever seen. I also think that boys should get it, because they can transmit it to women, plus I know a gay man who developed colon cancer from HPV.
I'm also with Venus on waiting to see if there are hitches. Remember Thalidomide?
