    Default Personal Syle

I've been thinking about this lately. I don't have much of a style. While I'm not a terrible dresser, I'm not very interesting either. I'm hating my whole closet and almost want to start completely over. I've always sort of envied those girls who seem to have such a distinct style. And usually their clothes and hair and makeup and everything is tied together. I went through the obligatory all black stage and am over that and then tried to keep up with the trends for a while, but sometimes I'd just feel stupid. And I like really nice things, but can't afford them, so my closet is now this jumble of a few nice things that don't go with much else and a lot of cheap trendy stuff which I don't like. I think I need basics and I also think I need to pick a cohesive look that I can build a wardrobe on. Two thoughts I've had is either only buying a few brands, or shopping at a few stores, thus everything would automatically get sort of tied together. The problem is, I already know I'd get bored. The other idea is that if I finally just sort of chose one thing and went with it. Like I'm just going to go with my 60s 70s type stuff, or I'm just going to go simple/classic or whatever...

I know this sounds a little superficial and like I'd be picking something I'm not, but really as it is now I dabble in a lot of everything and it is just a matter of finally just going with one concept to simplify my life and my shopping

    Anyway, what's your style?

    same as you...blah

but I hardly ever go "out" anymore, so why bother having a closet full of cute (expensive) clothes? I can afford better, but I can't justify spending that kind of money when I'd rather....see the world, for example.

I do have a couple of nice things, but very few things that cost over $100 except jeans. Jeans are so versatile.

OMG Iv'e been thinking about this alot lately. All the girls at my job are so cute and trendy. I come in rags lol.

When I was in high school, I was all about fashion but now not as much. But I will say, when I hit the club, I kNOW how to dress. I can get pretty fashion conscience then. I would LOVE to get some fashion sense..but I just dont' know where to look.

My style is so all over the place. I can dress one way, and then the next day the total opposite.

I developed my style around my body type, I am curvy so I looked at what fashion styles make me look my best for me its Retro, Pencil skirts with sweaters and heels or jeans and boots with a cute button up shirt. I recommend saving up some money and hiring a stylist to actually go shopping with you, they can help you get better deals on the clothing as well.

Most quoted me around $150 an hour which I think is too much but then again she came in and looked at my closet and told me which things I should get rid of and keep and even got me 20-30% at some places just becuase they knew she was a personal shopper. In the end I spend about $600 for my entire closet to get redone, plus about $1600 in clothes. Worth every penny inmo.

If you're not sure where to start, try watching "What not to Wear" on TLC. It's one of my favortie shows and you can pick up lots of great tips.

My personal style is what I feel comfortable in. I've done all the trends and finally decided fuck it all I'm doing what I want!

I do have some high end pieces, most of those I've picked up at department stores at the end of the season (God bless Dillards!) When I do this I try to look for classics pieces that won't go out of style. The more trendy stuff I have I'll get from the cheap stores, no sense to invest in a piece that's going to look outdated. I do have a tendency to splurge on shoes and handbags though.

Well, I always get compliments on my style, and I dont spend much money on my clothes.

My rule is to buy extremely cheap trendy things. I'll hit up stores like Charlotte Russe, Rave, Forever 21 for those super trendy pieces...you know, what looks cute NOW but will be outdated in a season. This is where I get my going out tops, camisoles to layer under blazers, shoes (patent leather anyone? Which i LOVE) loud jewelry

For basics, I'll spend a bit more...but never more than $70 or so a piece. But for jeans, blazers (which can get you anywhere, from casual trips with the girls, to jop interviews, to meeting your guy's parents) little black dresses, timeless shoes, I go to places like Express, NY and Co, the Limited, Victoria's Secret, etc.

But always have one or two GOOD handbags. I have Coach bags (mmmm Coach), and to start with I got one I could wear with outfits that were mainly brown, and one to go with outfits that were mainly black (if yout hink about it, those 2 options cover just about every outfit...unless you're head to toe in hot pink). I have foudn that people tend to notice a good bag first, and a good bag instantly make sthe rest of you look mor epolished and upscale.

For unique pieces and soem flare, i go to Goodwill. Seriously. You have to search through the racks, but I've gotten some beautiful and extremely unique shirts/skirts that i use to spice up the rest of my wardrobe. I also go here for accessories..belts are extremely expensive at even cheapy stores ($25 for a BELT?!) so I usually can pick up 4 for a dollar at a Goodwill, and they're usually amuch better quality anyway. I also get silky scarves, which are a big thing in my look now. I either use them as a belt, wrap them like a headbad, or tie them around my neck. They instantly make even a cheap outfit look upscale, and somehow makes a basic outfit look amazing.

I basically have chosen a style (mine is very classic...it' skind of a very modern take on 40's dressing, with vintage style tops paired with skinny jeans, etc) ...I can only think of one or two pieces in my closet that will be dated...everything else is pretty timeless...even the individual pieces are also seasonless...I have shirts I seriously wear winter to summer) in a certain color range. I'm very pale, so I look best in rich jewel tones (burgundy, blue, hunter green) and very blue-based pastels (baby blue, lavendar) but terrible in bright colors (hot pink, lime green). So my closet is a range of those colors...I do have a few "non-flattering" color pieces, but because they're trendy and cheap and if I wear my makeup right, I can pull it off lol.

To look pull together all the time...pick a style, a color range, and stay within it. it's fine to buy a few piece soutside of that range, but focus most of your spending within it...that way you always have an easy way to put together an outfit...and develop a signature. Mine is my scarves and my ethnic, vinatgey jewelry, other people layer on pearls with everything, or heavy bangles, some people always wear unique belts, etc.

I'm 22 and still wearing the same clothes I wore in highschool, or when I first got out. It's not that I don't have the money, it's that I'm busy with school, have no patience with the annoying people at the mall and , most of all, because I have no sense of style wat so ever. Basically, my clothes make me look poor and ratty, an dI know this, but I just don't know what to do.

Yes Kandie_Kitten that is very true and I guess the root of my problem is that I can't pick, but I want to, so I think I have to take a look at what I look best in as far as my body type and coloring, and what I feel most comfortable and "myself" in. Maybe I'll just pick a celeb to copy.

Oh and be carefull about personal shoppers/stylists ladies, I have a friend who is trying to do that for a living and...uh...I'll just say that I wouldn't trust her opinion much.

Well holiday, what's your coloring? As I said, I'm pale with dark hair, so I look best in jewel tones, that aren't too similar to my hair (for instance, I avoid dark brown because my ahir blends right in)...I also look like hell in yellow, rust, orange, because it makes my skin look sallow an dmy hair brassy.

If you have warm toned skin/eyes, stick to colors with a gold tone, such as browns, reds, creme, gold, etc, and contrasts with your hair

Oddly enough, I read tons of fashion mags, but I have little ability to go to the store and find something similar and flattering to my body type. I also have very expensive tastes. Whenever I do go out and find something fabulous or see someone wearing something awsome and I check on the price it's in the multiple hundreds. And even if I did break down and spend the cash, I'd end up with miss matched things anyway.

I still can't even match my clothes. Not too long ago I wore a sherbert orange dress ( which looks great on my wierd colored skind for some reason) with a giant deep green stone necklace, and pink shoes with brown sunglasses. I thought I looked fabulous. My style obsessed friend Mea told me I looked like some crazy miss matched hippie chick. She used to help me pick out the cutest outfits.... but now she has a newborn and no time for me

OMG!!! I love Victoria Beckham's style! D&G, Cavalli, Gucci I love the way she dresses.

CK- anytime she receives a new 'it' bag, she'll wear it for a short while then go onto something else.

The stars like to wear the bags that way for paparazzi shots- it gives a good pic of the bag, holding it under the arm will hide too much of it.

Right now I live in a small town, so there isn't much to do other than nightclubs, restaurants and shopping in the dull mall. I went to Atlanta last weekend and my head kept turning back and forth at all the well-dressed, well-styled women. From head to toe. I felt insecure and wanted to go back to the room.

My problem is I like shopping for night clothes and not daytime. Stores like Express, The Limited where I SHOULD be, bore me.

I want to be in the street looking like this- sexy, but covered up.
