    Default Help! Allergic to shampoo!

I changed shampoos on Saturday.. aveda.. never used it before.. welp, the first day I shampooed, about two hours later my scalp was all tingling and then I started scratching uncontrollably, kinda like some poor child with lice or something.. I immediately went and washed my hair, well now, my scalp is peeling and HURTS from this, I have a severe allergy to this shampoo, not only is it still itching, but not as bad, I have horrible flaking from it drying out my scalp. I've never ever had a shampoo do this to me before... Anyways, I'm back to using my old stuff again, but I need some advice on how to calm my head down... any suggestions? I don't know if there are any home remedies, I thought about oatmeal and I did try that but it didn't seem to do anything but make a big mess... I was at work today trying SO hard to not think about how bad my head hurt and itched...

Take Benadryle to control the itch. Maybe rinsing your scalp with Witch Hazel would help the itch and the healing process.

Ok, my two staple remedies: aloe vera gel, & plain yoghurt. I've used aloe on my scalp before, when overenthusiastic hairdresser scrubbed my scalp to an inch of its life. Plain yoghurt is very soothing & healing for sunburn, etc. Never triied it on my scalp, but hair & skin are very similar. I would try a small amount, then rinse w/cool water. Ouch, what a horrible experience! Maybe a chamomille tea/water rinse would help?

Ditto on the Benadryl. If it's an allergic reaction, then you have the same kind of allergy rash on your head that you would get anywhere else on your skin; it's a histamine reaction. You need an antihistamine to help it go away quickly.

thank god i didn't buy the Aveda shamp/cond when my hairdressers offered it. i have a super sensitive scalp too.

i can't even have regular hair colour (though the aveda colour seems gentler than the other).

i would be marching back to where you bought it from for a refund. they are supposed to be the hypo-allergenic, 'natural' masters.

    i would be pissed!

I'd wash my hair in cold tea. It alleviated the immediate pain, anyway, when I found out my head hates RedKen.
