    Default Finding workout partners

It's a problem. The places I might look--Myspace, Craigslist, etc.--are swimming with psychos. Meeting someone who already works out at my gym is, umm, awkward, since it'll come across as me hitting on them.

I had two, darling, platonic women pals I used to work out with. Great inspiration! But both are busy and dating currently, and we're out of sync--gym-wise.

    I need replacements.

    Any thoughts?

Why do you need a workout partner? I hate working out with other people (unless I am training them). They distract me from what I need to be doing.

But, why are you also looking just for women to work out with? Why not find a good guy buddy who needs the support?

Because guys aren't fun to look at? Have one workout guy pal, actually. But his schedule is insane: He hits the gym at 6 am. No way, Jose.

Why a female partner? Obviously there's a part of me (most guys, I think) that is encouraged to push limits (show off?) when there's a woman in the area.

Yep, Its pretty much better then any kind of drink you take before working out or anything. Adrenaline is such a crazy thing.

I work out harder when I work out with a guy. Something about smushing the "girlie" stereotype and lifting more than them (or at least more than they expect me to).

I have a bitch of a time finding partners, too. Come to MA, I'll work out w/you!!!!

I thought the whole point of working out with someone is so they can spot you, help carry your plates, do reps in between yours, etc.

It's difficult when they can't lift what you lift. And I don't care about how many plates a guy has on a barbell. And I don't expect him to be impressed by mine either!

I love working out alone, but if I were going to get a partner, it's going to be someone like me.

Anyway, I work out at the same time every day, and I notice there are a group of guys that also do it. And they kinda help each other. They just seemed to bond because they see each other all the time. They try to impress me with the number of plates and I'm just internally rolling my eyes. I'm impreessed by bodies, not weights.

My next trip to Boston, rozz. You're on. Just don't humiliate me at the bench press; I'm weak as a kitten.

Actually, I need someone who is nearby and, ideally, already a member of my current club. That's asking alot, I see. Blah. If I hung with someone at my yoga class, that would be nice. But there's no talking before, during or after class--us regulars seem to treat it like church--and so I've done zero socializing there.

I guarantee nothing. My last gym partner I called chick names unless he could lift what I told him to. Cute pet names like Nancy, Cinderella, and Xena the warrior princess. You'll like it.

I'm working out alone right now and it sucks. I can't work out with the fiance, as his back problems are legion and I have to modify too much of my workout, slowing me down. The chicks I see at the gym are hitting only the vanity muscles (abs, legs) and the guys refuse to take me seriously or stare lecherously at my ass. If they're going to stare, they could at least ball up cash and toss it at me as I do my romanian deadlifts.

Can you get a personal trainer? That helped me when I had one. I'm soooo unmotivated to work out I can see why a partner would be good. I haven't even joined a gym since I moved and I didn't really like the yoga studio I tried. All I've done is work out at home but it's so hard to make myself do it.
