Crap. My lower back is KILLING me but I have to work today. It's one of my two days a week I can make it in. Anyone have any miracle stretches or anything to help my poor back?I don't suppose dancing around in 6" heels for 6 hours will fix it.

What kinda of pain is it? What do you think brought it on? Whenever I have lower back pain I go do some simple cardio. For some reason it makes it better without half a bottom of ibprofen.

It's just soreness, and painfull when bending and lifting...I got it from picking up and putting down my 20 pound baby all day, and prob. not maintaining the correct posture. I'm thinking some ice and stretching. I don't have much time. Otherwise the cardio is good advice. Thanks
I have the same problem a few years ago I had a muscle spasm and just couldn't even walk it was that bad!!
The best thing really is to see your doctor especially if you have the following signs...
1. difficulty passing urine
2. numbness around your back passage or genitals
3. numbness, pins and needles or weakness in your legs
4. pain running down one or both legs
5. unsteadiness on your feet
He will ask you loads of questions like when you got the back pain and you will probably end up with pain killers or anti inflammatries (however you spell it!!!!).
A few good ways of trying to get rid of lower back pain is...
Exercise
Regular gentle exercise builds up strength and suppleness in the back and can stop pain returning. Trained professionals teach people how to exercise safely while they still have pain, and then move on to a more strenuous regime of strengthening the muscles to help prevent future bouts of back pain.
Manipulation
This is use of the hands to apply force to the back. Chiropractors say the technique 'adjusts' the spine. Physiotherapists see it as taking a joint to the limits of its natural movement. Manipulation should only be carried out by appropriately trained doctors, physiotherapists, osteopaths and chiropractors.
Massage, heat and hydrotherapy
Other therapies include massage, since the rubbing and kneading can stimulate the tissues. Alternatively applying hot and cold packs can help reduce pain and inflammation in the early stages of back pain.
Physiotherapists sometimes provide programmes of exercises in a special swimming pool for people who have serious or long-term back problems. Warm water helps support damaged tissues and also provides resistance for exercises.
TENS
TENS stands for transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulator. This is a small box with terminals attached to the painful area. It produces a tingling sensation and can help reduce pain. TENS machines are easily bought, but you should always read the instructions and seek the advice of a health professional if possible.
Braces and supports
Back supports are best avoided because they allow the back muscles to become weak. But light supports worn for short periods, as recommended by physiotherapists, can help people keep moving properly.
Complementary approaches
These include acupuncture, aromatherapy, healing, herbalism, homeopathy, hypnotherapy, meditation, reflexology, Alexander technique, shiatsu, visualisation and yoga.
Hope that helps you!!

Wow thanks - such a great 100th post too!Luckily I've just got a 'regular' sore back - I mean, nothing as serious as yours. Still the advice is all helpfull.
Take a pain killer specifically for back pain, such as Robaxacet. Your back is in spasm right now, and the medication relaxes the spasm.

lol..we don't have Robaxacet in the US! (over the counter anyways)
take some advil to bring down the inflamation and ice it if it's been longer than 24 hours...if it's been more than 24 hours, then apply heat..you can also alternate heat with ice (20 min on 20 min off)
lay on your back on the floor and bring your knees into your chest to stretch it..hug your knees.
can you get to a chiro?

Try doing light stretching.
You may not have the brand Robaxacet, but you do have over the counter pain relievers specifically for back pain. Go talk to your pharmacist. Regular pain releivers don't have the muscle relaxants neccessary to stop the back muscles from spasming.

yes, we do, but, here over the counter you can't get muscle relaxants. they are considered class 2 & 3 narcotics..only available by prescription (I used to be a pharmacy technician). the ones specifically for "back pain" are nothing more than ibuprofen, aspirin &/or acetaminophen (tylenol), or other types of nsaids. they are only anti-inflammatory and/or pain relief meds, just "packaged" to look like they are specially for the back. kinda like "dones"..it's just another nsaid.
